chapter two : milo

There's two things I've come to the conclusion of:

The first is that hang over's suck.

Secondly, never am I ever staying out late again and where I have sex with random strangers, no matter how amazing he was.

I wouldn't say that I was drunk last night but I did drink quite a bit last night.  The guy I slept with last night, Patrick, had left already.  When I looked at the time and noticed it was two in the afternoon when I finally woke up and my eyes widened.  Walking out into the kitchen, I found a bottle of aspirin and got one out as I took it with water and found some Gatorade to hydrate myself.  Making myself some lunch.

After I ate lunch, I went into the bathroom and did everything to get ready for the day - took a shower, brushed my teeth, did my skincare routine and added some makeup to my face and eyes when I noticed some hickey's on my neck that made my eyes widen.  I ended up getting out my full coverage foundation and some color correctors as I tried to hide them the best I could.

I noticed that Natalia wasn't here.  She was probably out getting some more things for the house.  Since the house was empty, I asked Alexa to play some music while I opened up my MacBook Pro and checked my emails.

There were a few emails from our boss which talked about what our first day would be like and how we would be going to Arrowhead Stadium afterwards to interview a few players before the season begins.

On the list were the names Travis Kelce, Harrison Butker, Tyrann Matthieu, De'Anthony Thomas (which I was super excited about since I had been a big fan of his since he played for the Ducks in college) and Patrick Mahomes.

It wasn't until an hour later that I heard the front door open but no one came in.

"Natalia?" I called out and moved closer to the door but stopped when I heard little pitter patters of nails hitting our wood flooring which made me furrow my eyebrows in confusion.

"Oh my God, he's so cute," I exclaim as I bend down and he comes running over to me and giving me puppy kisses which makes me squeal.  "Hey, little guy."

"Isn't he?" She gushes getting on the floor as well and petting him as we give him attention.

"What kind of dog is he?" I ask her looking up.

"They say he's a yellow lab and golden retriever mix," she smiles.  "He's three months old.  You don't mind do you?  I'm sorry it's just I just know how much you love dogs too and I just couldn't say no to him.  They said he had been there for a couple weeks and no one claimed him and no one wanted him."

"Aw," I pout slightly.  "Obviously we just have to keep him then.  Isn't that right?" I say with excitement and the dog gives a little puppy bark which makes us laugh.  "Do we need to go to Pet Smart and get anything?"

"Yeah," she nods her head with a smile on her face.  "And we can bring him with us.  What should we name him?"

"Hm, Lucas?"

"Nah," she shakes her head.  "Thor?"

"I don't know," I say as I look at him.  "He doesn't look like a Thor to me.  Oh, I know!  What about Milo?"

His ears perk up at the name slightly as his head tilts to the side and we both look at each other.

"That's it," Natalia says.  "Are you ready to go to pet smart, Milo?"

His tail wags and I pick him up and carry him as he cuddles into my arms.  They had given Natalia a leash when she bought him but I wanted to get him an extendable leash for when we go on walks or to the dog park.

"How the hell did you find him?" I ask Natalia as I drive to the store.

"I just looked up local pet adoption places and this one came highly rated.  I looked at the animals for like thirty seconds before I found Milo and decided he was the one.  He's just so cute," she said as she down at him laying in her lap.

"He is very cute," I nod my head in agreement.

I pulled into the parking lot not too long later and hooked the leash on Milo as we made our way into pet smart.

"Alright, so we need an extendable leash, puppy food, treats, bedding, a cage to potty train and basically everything else," I said as Natalia laughed and agreed.

"Basically.  Oh and we need toys."

"Can't forget the toys," I agreed.  "Maybe we should go to Home Goods as well?  They have pretty good things there too."

"Good idea," she agrees.  "But we'll have to leave him home when we go."

"And Target."

"And Target," she comments with a laugh.  "So who was the hottie you brought home last night?"

"You saw him?" I asked as my eyes widened.

"Saw him on his way out and heard you guys last night."

"Sorry," I smile sheepishly and she waves a hand at me.

"Don't be.  If I brought someone home who looked like that I would have hot drunk sex with him all night too, girl.  I didn't get a look at his face but his back was hot."

I laughed at her comment as we got a cart and put Milo in.

"He was really hot but nice too.  I wish I had gotten his number," I tell her with a slight frown.

"Wait you mean to tell me you didn't get his number?"

"No," I shook my head.  "He was gone before I could and last night we were just caught up in the moment."

"Damn," she shakes her head in disappointment.  "Oh here's the treats aisle."

We find some treats he might like that were for his size and got some for when he will grow bigger and I find a dog bowl that was pretty cute.  After a while we take Milo out of the shopping cart and let him walk freely with his leash on.  Later on today, I was going to order on Etsy a collar that had his named engraved along with our phone numbers.

"He looks so cute how he walks," I tell Natalia and she nods in agreement.

"He's just so precious."

"What are we going to do with him when we have to travel for work though?" I ask her and she shrugs her shoulders.

"I'm sure there are dog kennels that will keep him.  And the price won't be too bad since we just have one dog."

"True.  I'm actually excited to go into the studio tomorrow."

"Me too.  And then afterwards we're already going to Arrowhead to interview some of the Chief's players."

"That's going to be so exciting.  Except I'm kind of hoping Tyreek Hill isn't one of them," she points out.

"Why?" I ask as we look at the puppy dog food and I look up the different brands.

"Because of what he did in college to his ex-girlfriend."

"Right," I agree with her.  "If he is one of them though we have to remain professional."

"Yeah.  Professional."

"You can do that, right?" I asked with a little hesitation.

No matter how we felt about a player personally, we had to remain professional.  We couldn't let our personal feelings influence our work life.  At least that's what our boss said and what he says goes.  Besides we both signed the same contract to come to Kansas City and I wasn't going to blow my career over how I felt about just one player.  Even if I didn't like it myself.

"Yeah, definitely.  No way would I blow my career away just because I don't like a player.  That's crazy talk," she said which made me laugh.

"Well lucky for you we aren't interviewing Tyreek," I tell her and she gives me a look that's like an 'are you kidding me' look.

"Please tell me you're serious," she begs and I laugh.

"I'm serious," I tell her as I get my phone out of my purse and pull up the email our boss sent us and gave it to her.  "See?"

"Fuck yes!  I mean I would have done it regardless but I am so damn happy right now.  You have no idea how much that made my week."

"Aw, you mean little Milo didn't make your week?" I pout slightly as I pick him up from the floor and cuddle with him as he makes a noise and turns to kiss me which makes me smile at his cuteness.

"He made my week too," she agrees as she leans forward and pets his head.

"We're also interviewing Travis Kelce, Harrison Butker, Tyrann Matthieu, De'Anthony Thomas  and Patrick Mahomes."

"Wait, did you just say Patrick Mahomes?" She shouted slightly which caught some stares from random people and she apologized to those around us.  "Did you just say Patrick Mahomes?" She whispered more quietly which made me laugh and nod my head.

"Yeah," I tell her and grab a puppy dog food and put it in the cart after reading all of the good reviews it had and Natalia fanned herself.

"Man, we're going to be interviewing all of the hotties tomorrow."

"You're crazy," I laugh at her as we go to the check out lane and start putting our things out.

"Aw, your dog is so cute," the cashier said as she was ringing up our things.

"Thanks," we both say at the same time.

"Did you just get him?"

"Yeah, literally today.  His names Milo."

"That's really cute," she says and then tells us the total.

"Milo you are so cute but so expensive," I tell him which makes the cashier and Natalia laugh and I put my credit card in the machine before pulling it out and back into my wallet.

"Here is your receipt," she says.  "And do you think he would like a dog treat?"

"We think so," Natalia says to her and she goes behind her into a small basket and gets one out and hands it to him which he takes immediately and starts chewing happily.  "I think he liked it.  Thanks."

"Thank you and have a nice day."

We grab our bags and put them in the cart since it would be kind of hard to carry them and Milo at the same time and left to go put them in my car.

"You are one expensive little dude, you know that?" I ask Milo who was sitting in Natalia's lap and looking out the window which made me smile.

*

When we got home from our shopping at Home Goods and Target, we put everything away and put Milo's new dog pillow on the floor for him and he cautiously went over to it as he sniffed it out and walked in circles on it before plopping down.  I took a picture of him and sent it to the family group chat with the caption:

welcome the newest member of the family - Milo.

All my family members clicked love on the picture and commented on how cute he was and that they couldn't wait to meet him which made me smile.  Natalia and I got our bags out that we bring for work and made sure we had everything packed.  Natalia was a sports videographer and she liked being more behind the scenes instead of what I do.  She made dinner which was taco salad for tonight and I checked off the list everything we needed for tomorrow.

I knew tonight I wouldn't get enough sleep since I hardly ever did in starting a new job.

"You excited about tomorrow?" Natalia asked after I finished packing our bags and joined her in the kitchen.

"Hell yeah," I told her and put the food on my plate as I crunched up the chips in my hands.  "You?"

"Yeah," she laughed.

Though Natalia and I were best friends we were still very much opposites.  She was way more outgoing than me and never got nervous over everything.  One thing I knew I was sure of - I was excited for the upcoming football season.
