Meeting Gray
Author's Note
So here it is, this will be from Juvia's POV! YAY! I can do girls POV way better than dudes, so sorry if the last chappy wasn't that good. Also, just to let you know, I will be continuing from Juvia's POV after the 'asking out' part! Kay, enjoy!
Juvia POV (Yay!)
Today was my first day at Fairy Tail High. Not for everyone else though. I had transferred here in the middle of the school year. When I first arrived, Principal Makarov greeted me warmly.
"Hello, Juvia! I'm glad to see that you have taken up my offer to transfer to Fairy Tail High!" The tiny man grinned, while patting my hand.
"Thank you very much for taking Juvia in, Principal Makarov." I replied, while releasing my hand from his warm grasp. He frowned slightly at my action, the smiled again.
"No problem, no problem at all. You deserve a new start after all you've been through. You should start heading to your class now, then Juvia." He chortled, and waved me off. I nodded, bowed, and ran away. It's not that I didn't like the principal, I mean, I feel grateful to him, it's just that he was a bit of a... well, pervert! I was so caught up in my thoughts that I didn't watch where I was going, and bumped into someone. I nearly fell, but the girl I bumped into (who easily stayed pright) grabbed my arm. She had amazing red hair and looked very orderly. It seemed the other students feared her. They had all backed away when she walked by.
"You must be new. I'm the student council president. My name is Erza Scarlet." She remarked, while heaving me up with ease.
"Thank you. Juvia is Juvia Lockser." I mumbled, a bit horrified by how my introduction sounded. Yes, I speak in third person. I have, ever since I was very young. And I wasn't used to introducing myself, but I was getting the hang of it. At the time I thought it sounded 'cool' but now I regret it. Many people have found it fun to laugh at my habit. In fact, I heard some giggles and jeers about it as other students walked past, which Erza silenced with a deadly glare.
"It's nice to meet you, Juvia. Who's your first class? I'll show you the way there." Erza replied kindly, patting my back awkwardly.
"Eto, Juvia's first class is history. The teacher is Happy Sensei." I whispered shyly. Erza nodded at me and gave me a sypathetic glance. Uh oh, Happy Sensei must be wierd!
TIME SKIP~ 1 HOUR
Well, I was right. Happy Sensei was a cat! And he talked about fish the whole time and occasionally an other cat-teacher with the name of Carla. It was a very odd class, and I was getting the same feeling about this school in general. For example, I was walking to gym, and I saw a brown-haired girl having what seemed to be a drinking contest with a bun-wearing boy ((Bacchus)). They had a large audience chanting them on, and it looked like they were chugging... kool aid? And I also saw a brunette with a goatee cuddling with a broom in the coartyard! ((Brax, anyone?)) And it wasn't only the students! The male staff is all pervs! And I heard that there was a teacher named Virgo who, instead of detention for punishent, made her students punish HER for punishment! How odd. In gym today, I was sitting seperated from the other girls. I don't think they were being cruel. I think they were too caught up in their own conversation about boys to notice me. Speaking of boys, I heard a crypyic voice from the other side of the gym.
"Who is she? I think she's new. Looks like a dork." I winced and felt my throat start to close. Don't get me wrong, I was used to this type of treatment. It was just that I thought I could have a fresh start from the bullies at this school, and the familairity of the harshness was getting to me. I willed myself not to cry, and was succeeding until another deep voice pipe in.
"Yeah, I heard that she's like, mute, or something!" I felt a tear slip out.
Pitter, Patter. It started to drizzle. I was about to run to the girl's room when I heard a different voice yell,
"She's right there! She can HEAR you!" My heart twanged a bit. W-Who is that guy? He actually stood up for me! Wah! My cheeks started to burn. I didn't have enough confidence to turn to the mysterious guy's direction, so I just kept my eyes downcast and emotionless as usual, but inside, I was daydreaming about the kind guy that defended me from those bullies. Nobody has ever did that before. It was like I had seen the light, shining through the gloomy clouds that were always near when I was around. It would usually rain, but I was in a better mood, because I had joined a new school, and a new start.Suddenly I heard the same voice of the man who had saved me. I looked up, and nearly swooned. A handsome navy-haired boy who looked a bit dumbstruck stared at me. I blinked at him.
"E-Eto...?" I mumbled, pressing my fingers together and looking down shyly.
"Wanna go out today?" He replied casually. Wait, WHAT? I didn't even know this guy! Maybe he was tricking me. Wait no, he was so kind before, there's no way! I had never had anyone ask me out! Nor had anyone else TRY to interact with me with romantic intentions. But then again, I had never felt this feeling before. When I saw him, my heart lit up, and I just wanted to jump into his arms. So I decided to say...
"O-Okay," I murmured awkwardly. He grinned, although I couldn't tell if it was directed to me.
"I'll pick you up at the entrance when school ends." He said, and walked off. Wait, what? I didn't even know his name! What an odd man. I spent the rest of the third, fourth and fifth period daydreaming about the mysterious stranger who asked me out. My sixth period was lunch. Since I had no friends, I knew how awkard it would be to be the only one sitting alone at a table in the bustling lunchroom. I sighed, and was about to open the cafeteria doors to eat in the bathroom, but someone grabbed my arm.
"Juvia? Is that you?" A familiar voice called curiously. I turned around, and was a only a bit surprised to see the red-haired student president from before standing behind me. "Would you like to sit with us, Juvia?" She asked. I felt my lips almost curve into a faint smile.
"Yes. Thank you, Erza." I replied gratefully. No one had ever invited me to sit. I was quite excited, but as usual, I kept my feelings locked away and my face it's usual emotionless mask. Erza noticed and her smile faltered a bit, but she turned away and grabbed my hand. She led me to a loud, bustling table. My excitement wavered when I realized that the bullies from before were seated there. It returned when I realized the mysterious guy from before was there. It seemed that this was the popular table. I wasn't used to not being scared around the popular kids.
"Hey Erza! Why's that dork with you?" I heard the one of the voices that had bullied me before yell. It came from a long haired, burly guy with lots of piercings. He glared at me. Another guy joined him in glowering at me. This one had bright orange hair, and glasses. I cowered behind Erza. She cracked her knuckles and crossed her arms. A literal death aura came off her! I was very scared, as was everyone else in the room.
"I-I mean, welcome to the table, lovely lady!" stuttured Gajeel while doing the sign of the cross. Erza turned and smiled at me.
"Minna, introduce yourselves, please!" She commanded. Everyone at the table turned to me. A blonde-haired girl grinned at me.
"Hi, there. I'm Lucy Heartfilia! Let's be friends." She smiled sweetly.
"Juvia is pleased to meet you, Lucy." I murmured, shaking her outstretched hand. Another girl, sitting next to Lucy patted my shoulder.
"I'm Levy! Sorry about Gajeel, he's really mean. I too was bullied by him, but we are friends now. I'm sure it will be the same for you. And if you ever have trouble with bullies, please tell us." The small blue-haired girl assured me.
"Thank you, Levy. Juvia hopes so." I replied. The girls moved over to make a space for me, and sat me. I bit my lip. I had no idea what to do in this situation. I had never really had people so willing to be friends with me before.
"Oh, yeah, and that's Natsu Dragneel," Lucy pointed to a pink-haired guy shoving food in his mouth at a crazy speed, "And that's Gray Fullbuster." She then pointed to the mysterious guy from before. She continued introducing everyone, but my attention stayed with this 'Gray'.I don't think he even noticed I was there! He was just sitting there, staring out the nearby wndow with a faraway look in his eyes. Kya! He looked like a character of an anime! He was so handsome! His dark, cold eyes and his sharp-looking black hair made me swoon. I decided to turn back to the girls. When I did, I was surprised and a bit scared. The two were smirking at me evilly.
"Hmm... So you like Gray, huh?" Lucy cackled, her smirk only growing larger as I flushed furiously.
"J-Juvia doesn't, uh, ergh... J-Juvia thinks-" I stammered, embarassed.
"Hehehehehe, wait till Mira finds out!" Levy shrieked hysterically. At that one statement, the whole lunchroom went silent. What the... Then suddenly everyone started screaming and crying! I even saw Erza shake from fear of this 'Mira' person! I turned to Gray to see if he had noticed, but he didn't, he was in his own world.
"W-Who is Mira?" I whispered, terrified. If even Erza was scared, then i didn't know what to think! She must be a demon or something!
"She's the school matchmaker! THE DEMON CUPID!" Natsu exclaimed, horrified. So she WAS a demon! How scary. But not as scary as the lunchroom now. I was there, surrounded by crying people and two crazy hysterical-cackling girls. After a while, everything went back to normal. Well, that was wierd... I thought. But lunch passed quickly without anyone bullying me (The orange haired one, who's name was Loke, even apoligized for bullying me!), and without Gray even noticing me there.
"Don't worry, Juvia. He's just dealing with a lot of crazy stuff lately." Levy whispered to me knowingly. Lucy nodded in agreement. Luckily, both of my new friend's had gone back to normal.
"Arigato." I nodded to them, and they both smiled at me, and headed to their classes.
I sighed and started walking to my next class, too. 'A lot of crazy stuff, huh?' I thought. As before, I spent the rest of my classes not really interatcting with anyone, (except for the girl who was chugging kool-aid before, I found out her name was Cana, and we quickly became friends after I helped save her from 'death', which was just a quiz by lending her some of my notes about the topic.) When the last bell rang, everyone was leaving out the same way. I had a rush of excitement, thinking about my first date and Gray. I waited at the entrance for a while. All the other students rushing past me, only stopping to look and me, amused. I think they thought I was being stood up. 5 minutes had past. 10. 15. I thought 'Maybe I should go. I probably got stood up.' Everyone else was gone now, and I was sitting. My eagerness made 15 minutes felt like a lifetime. Now it had all died away. I started sadly to the girl's dorm. At that moment, I heard a bang, and saw Gray come out of the doors. He looked dazed, and I ran to him.
"Gray-sama? Gray-sama, are you okay?" I asked. Suddenly, his face was painted over with deep pain. Oh no! Then, he blinked. He glanced at me. I almost swooned! So handsome!
"Thank goodness! Gray-sama, you were just standing there, mumbling. Juvia was quite scared."
"Sorry, Juvia. And wait, when did I tell you my name?" He asked huskily, looking at me with such intensity, I blushed. I explained how I saw him at lunch, and we started walking shortly after.
"So, you room in the girl's dorms, right? I'll drop you off there." He said. It was very awkward. We were walking together, but seperated by a couple feet and a tense silence.
"Uh, Gray-sama, can Juvia ask you a question?" I asked quietly.
"Yeah, whatever." Came his reply. I hesitated, then took a deep breath.
"Why did you ask Juvia out? And why did you stick up for her?" I held my breath waiting for his reply.
"I don't know." He muttured. Oh, okay.
"Then, would you like to stop by the park, so Gray-sama and Juvia can get to know each other better?" I offered. I felt quite bold! I never did this before at my old school! Gray-sama looked surprised, and then he nodded. He was quite cold, but I could tell he was a kind person at heart. When I saw the expression of pain on his face that mirrored mine when he walked out the school doors, I thought maybe we were more alike than I had thought earlier. Maybe that's why he asked me out? I didn't know. All I knew was that we were different in a way (he was popular, I wasn't), but alike in another (I could tell he had fone through pain before.
"Juvia, we're at the park." Gray rumbled. He grabbed my hand, and I nearly fainted! What was he trying to do? Oh my!
"J-J-Juvia isn't ready for t-this!" I shrieked. Gray gave me a funny look and I realized he was only leading me to a bench.
"Oh." I said, disappointedly. We sat down, and just looked at each other for a second. I studied his face. He had raven hair, hard eyes, and a firm expression.
"So, Juvia, how do you like school?" He asked. He sounded bored.
"It's okay." I replied. A small silence took over.
"Where was your last school?" He inquired. The memories of Phantom High swirled through my head. Not good ones either. I felt as if I was going to vomit.
"Juvia? Are you okay? Nevermind, I'll ask a different question," He muttured.
"No, gomen Gray-sama, my old school was Phantom High. Juvia did not have a good experience there." I muttured bitterly. He nodded, and we started talking about Fairy Tail High and it's craziness, and, well, one thing leads to another, so now we were talking about different types of instruments. I found out that Gray played the piano! He found out how I sang and played the viola. I really enjoyed talking to him, and we both opened up to each other.
"Wow, first we were asking about schools, now we are talking about instruments!" Gray-sama grinned at me. I felt a smile crack across my face. His eyes widened.
"What's wrong, Gray-sama?" I asked curiously.
"You have a nice smile." He muttured, shoving his hands in his pockets. I flushed. We both got up, and started to the dorms. We soon arrived, and even though we stood the same distance as when we started, I felt closer to him than before. He walked with me to the entrance then turned around abruptly and left. What? So soon?
"Uh, Gray-sama? Would you like to stay a bit longer?" I asked hopefully. He turned around.
"Sorry, Juvia but Erza won't let guys in the girl's dorm." He shivered. I giggled. He turned away again and started leaving.
"Gray-sama?"
"Yeah?"
"Thank you."
He walked off. It was like a scene from a movie. A handsome boy walking off into the sunset with a lovestruck girl watching him... How beautiful.
Gray POV
Damn! I hope she didn't see me blushing! I'm so confused about my feelings. She's a huge loser, so I can't be falling in love with her, her soft hair, her sweet voice, her- FUCK!
