9 - Falling Out
Seth
I felt sick as I read an angry text from Roman. "I don't care if you're in class, get your ass home now...we need to have words!" I swallowed as I tried to pack away belongings quietly, I felt my skin heat up as nearly everyone in the class turned to watch me. I stood up, throwing my bag over my shoulder before uneasily stumbling over to the door. "Mr Rollins, where do you think you're going?" The teachers stern voice made me jump, but the anxiety coursing through my veins just pushed me out the door.
Roman's almost never been angry at me before, normally he's just disappointed...never angry. It feels like my chest is caving in as I run through the campus, desperate to get home, desperate not to anger Roman anymore. My hands trembled by my side as I walked through Iowa, my towering apartment building blocking out the sun as it come into view.
I grabbed the key from my pocket, struggling to fit it in the keyhole as my whole body shook. Suddenly the door was ripped open in front of me and Roman was seething with a fury I've never seen before. "Roman, what's going on? What have I done?" He grabbed my arm, the skin bruising under his iron grip. "Bayley." I swallowed as he shoved me into our flat, my palms sweating as I panicked. "Roman I didn't know~"
"It was your stupid fault we had to move away, Bayley had to do all that alone because you couldn't face your dad! You made me abandon my pregnant girlfriend because you were too much of a coward!" He screamed in my face and it felt like the walls were closing in as my oldest friend was turning on me, I couldn't hold back my tears as he screamed in my face. I bit my quivering lip as I tried to stop myself from sobbing, I never thought I'd lose Roman...but here we are.
"Why couldn't you just man up! For once you didn't have to be pathetic!" I felt a hard slap connect to my jaw and all I felt was panic as the skin on my cheek started to sting, I brought my hand to my face and fear filled me, Roman was the only person I wasn't afraid of...but now I'm afraid of him too. "Seth- god Seth I'm so sorry." I turned on my heel and I ran, the tears blurring my vision as I opened the door. Roman took a step towards me and I flinched, wanting nothing more than to just run and never stop.
Becky
"Miss Lynch, stop right there." I froze, turning around to face my English lecturer. "Please miss, somethings wrong and I-I can't just leave him." She looked up at me, closing her eyes and rubbing her temple before speaking. "Fine, you can go." I turned and ran towards the door, just catching a glimpse of the look on Sasha's face as I ran. She looked so smug and it made me feel sick, I'm like a puppet on her strings...I should've just called off this bet when she gave me the chance, now I'm stuck; with feelings of my own developing.
I jumped out of my car right as Seth came running out of his apartment block, he was just blindly running and I could see how hurt he was. "Seth!" His head snapped up and he stumbled out into the road, I felt my heart stop as a car rounded the corner. Without thinking I ran at him, taking him out of harms way just in time. We both lay against the pavement and I held Seth tightly in my arms as I sat up. "Come on, let's go back to mine. You can talk to me, or not? Whatever you feel comfortable with, but let's just get you safe."
"No, please I need to be alone." He stumbled to his feet and he began to scarper away from me, bumping into strangers as he frantically moved away. I stood up and went after him, not caring whether or not I hurt strangers. "Seth please stop, I only want to help, I only want to be here for you!" He looked back at me before running faster, I felt my heart break as I watched him topple to the ground. "Seth!" I pushed past anybody I could to get to him, he was on the ground with his head in his hands, blood trickling down his elbow as he sat defeated.
"Princess, why'd you run?" I bent down, placing my hand on his cheek so his eyes met mine. His eyes looked grey and dull, his usual bright sparkle diminished. "I was afraid..." He spoked in a whisper and I shut my eyes, to stop any tears from escaping. "Afraid of me?" He shook his head, shuffling across the cold pavement to lay his head on my shoulder. "Afraid of everyone else, including Roman." The cold breeze blew harshly against us, each individual hair standing up as goosebumps formed on my arms. "Let's not do this here my car's across the road, we can go back to mine." I stood up, my jeans wet from the rain soddened tarmac. "Plus I think I've got a plaster in my car." I pointed to his elbow, before extending my hand out to him.
He took my hand and I pulled him to his feet and neither of us felt the urge to break apart our hands, so we just walked through the winter weather hand in hand.

The panic which had been previously controlling my mind was now replaced by a warm sensation, like when you get concert tickets for your favourite band, or you're having your favourite food for tea...I feel like that. "You don't have to do this." I spoke quietly and Becky looked up from our hands. "But I want too, you're lucky I ran after you like that, I'm not typically into fitness." I couldn't but laugh as Becky shook her head. "Glad I could lighten your mood Princess, now once we get back you're going to tell me what happened? Then I'll order takeout and turn my sofa into a bed, so you don't have to worry about Roman." I heard a car unlock and I felt Becky break her hand away from mine, immediately missing the warmth of her small hand against mine.
"Thank you Becks."
"Becks?" Her cheeks tinted pink as she looked away, clearly blushing. "It's just a nickname, like Princess for me." She cleared her throat as she got inside her car and I did the same. "Alright, Becks it is then." She giggled, a soft, sweet, almost angelic giggle which made my stomach twist in knots. Suddenly her face contorted into a look of worry and I went to ask, but she spoke before I could. "It's January the 28th..."
"Okay?" Her head snapped up and she shook her head. "God I didn't mean to say that out loud." She laughed, with no humour and I just furrowed my brows in confusion. "My periods due tomorrow." She said awkwardly and I just looked away, not wanting to get talking about periods. "Sorry, lets just go." She started the engine and drove the car away from my apartment building. "It's alright, I don't mind...periods are normal~"
"Seth just stop." She laughed and I found myself doing the same as we came to a red light. "Only met you a week ago? Don't think we are ready for period talks just yet! Eh princess?" I just nodded, looking out the window, seeing some things for the first time here in Iowa. "Oh, don't worry about English. I just told her something was up and she let us off the hook, just don't walk out again." Becky's tone was a little stern, taking one hand off the wheel to place it on my knee. "I won't, thanks for sorting in Becks."
"Always"
