4 - Hobbies

Seth
Caused by my open window a cold breeze blew through my room as I looked over some notes for university, just scrolling through all the different modules and reading about all the different books we're going to have to read. I felt the hairs stand up on my arm as a sharp wind blew through my window, immediately I stood to close the window. Flinching at the hard thud of the glass against the window frame, I sunk back to the floor and I started to absentmindedly play with the ends of my hair loose from the bun I had it in.

My mind wandered back to earlier and I instantly felt bad for being so rude, I picked my phone up to text her when I suddenly remembered I didn't have her number, sighing I gently placed my phone back down before returning to my uni notes.

I didn't know how long I'd been in here when I heard a knock at my apartment door, I waited a moment but when nobody answered I lifted myself off the floor before heading towards the front door. The knock was a light rap on the door, a knock that I was unfamiliar with so i felt myself tense up as I twisted the door knob. I expected to see someone unfamiliar but I relaxed when I saw Becky standing on the other side. "Hey! The blonde told me you lived here and I'd thought I better come and apologise for earlier! I didn't mean to upset you, I'm just not a very sensitive person." She shrugged her shoulders as a bright smile came to my face. "It's alright! Do you want to come in? I can make you a tea or coffee?" Becky nodded, stepping into mine and Roman's apartment. "I don't drink hot drinks." I frowned and I bit my bottom lip. "Don't cry about it! Just grab me a beer or something?" Her tone was snappy now as she kicked her shoes off. I had to bite my lip even harder to stop any tears from forming as I grabbed a beer and a apple juice from my fridge.

"Apple juice? Pfft." She rolled her eyes and I winced as she popped the lid off her beer, the thick smell of it filling the air and making me feel sick. "Got any hobbies?" She asked after taking a large gulp of her beer. "Uh...flower tending? I like flowers, me and my mother used to grow them together." I was fonding at the memories with my mother when a sharp laugh cut through the room. "Flowers? Flowers...god...you crack me up!" I took a sip of my apple juice, trying to ignore the painful cackle that rippled through the room. "Now what's your actual hobby?" She turned to me with a serious face and I just swallowed. "Becky...flowers are my actual hobby." She began cackling again and I found it hard not to let it sink right to my heart, almost impossible to hold back the tears. "That's not very manly of you, thought you were going to say something like the gym or something!"

I almost wanted to make a remark, but I didn't want to upset Becky no matter how rude she was being. Trying to change the subject I cleared my throat, causing her almost witch like laugh to stop. "What re you majoring in uni?" She looked at me disapprovingly from my mention of school. "English and Spanish, wouldn't even be in uni if it wasn't for~" She stopped herself, just shaking her head and taking a large chug of her beer. "What about you?" I almost want to ask why she stopped herself, but I know I'll probably just get a shrug so I just answered the question. "English and History, but I think I may try and pick up a minor in french." I hummed happily and Becky just sighed. "Why are you starting so late in the term?" Becky's question made my skin crawl, I tried to think of a lie quick on my feet but I couldn't so I just ended up shaking my head, hoping she'd drop the subject like I did with her just now. "Oh come on, tell me?" I took a deep breath, almost considering telling her the truth for a second but that would be a bad idea. "Got kicked out of my last uni..." She scoffed, not believing the lie falling from my lips. "For what? Behaving too well!"

"Maybe." I reached for the remote wanting to put on a Disney film, but then I remembered Becky and I dropped it.

Becky
I watched Seth start to bite his fingernails and I had to stop myself from throwing a rude remark at the boy. "Can I see your room?" The question took him by surprise and his hand fell from his open mouth. "Uh...Yeah sure." He stood up from the couch leading me over to a closed bedroom door, he nervously twisted the door knob before pushing open the door. The room was pink, completely and utterly pink. "Ah fifty shades of pink I see?" I winked at Seth and his cheeks flushed the same colour as the pastel pink on the walls. "Just s'pose I like pink!" He smiled a toothy grin and I couldn't help but smile back myself, before remembering the bet and the smile falling from my face.

"So Becky, what are your hobbies?" He walked over to the bed, sitting down on what seemed like thousands of cushions. "Tattooing and drawing, one day I want to run my own shop! Working with Dean my boss is fun, but having my own business god I would love every second of it!" Seth's eyes twinkled as he smiled at my passion. "Always dreamed of maybe starting a bakery or something like that, just like making people smile." I nodded, sliding my jacket off my shoulders revealing my inked up arms. "I didn't know you had this many tattoos." He reached out and grabbed my arm, pulling me closer to him and examining my arm in awe. "Well we've only just met, would be kinda weird if you knew I had 37 tattoos and counting." I tried to pull my arm away and Seth became embarrassed as he realised he'd just been tracing over my tattoos. "37 is a lot of tattoos...how aren't you like completely covered in ink?" I laughed at his confusion. "Most of them are stupid little ones, my sleeves I'm most proud of."

"Yeah they're sick!" He smiled and for once I smiled back. "Seth! I'm home!" I heard an unfamiliar voice ring through the house and a thought flashed through my mind, is he gay? "That's my roommate Roman, the one your friend was snogging." He grimaced at the word 'snogging' and I couldn't help but chuckle under my breath. "Right, I'll go introduce myself." I hopped off the chair I was perching on and I walked out into the living room. "Hello, haven't met you before?" The boy asked and I shook my head. "Becky's the name, are you Roman?" He nodded. "Yeah, do you want anything? Was bout to order a pizza if you're interested?" I shook my head. "Got things to do, people to tattoo! But another time, tell your roommate I think he's cute." I didn't even give him chance to respond before I left the apartment.
