12 - Our wounds are cut deeper than this

Seth
"You have to let me in! Please, Seth please. We can end this today, we can call the police, we could put him in jail but I need you to let me in!" I stood up from the floor with legs like jelly as I twisted the lock to my door, Roman was on the other side and I could see the panic in his own face. "We could end this today Seth, we wouldn't have to run anymore. Iowa could be our forever home!" My dad finally burst through the apartment door and his eyes locked onto me. "Aren't you happy to see your good old dad Seth?" He started to laugh, like he found my current state amusing.

"Seth!" I heard Becky's voice call and I wanted to call back but I couldn't. "Seth, what's going on!" She called again as she reached my front door, the door collapsed into my house. "Seth." My dad turned around to face her and she scanned him. "And you must be Becky?" I felt my heart start to beat faster at that, how long has he been watching me to know all of this? "You see Son, I did promise at Texas, California and every state in between that there was no point running because I'd find you in the end!" He turned back to face me and he took a long stride towards me, I felt a slight hint of relief when Roman stepped in front of me. "You can't even face me like a man! Honestly I think me and your mother brought the wrong child home from the hospital, because you're not my son!" I stepped beside Roman and I faced my dad, holding back the tears and the fear as I watched him. "I don't want to be your son! Thats why I left, thats why we all left you it's because we wanted nothing to do with you, I want nothing to do with you so why can't you just leave me alone!"

He glared at me, his expression turning cold and the look in his eyes getting darker. "Because you deserve this Seth, you deserve this! You don't deserve people protecting you, you don't deserve someone loving you. No you don't deserve any of that but you deserve the beatings that you get, you deserve them. The same way you deserved to be my ash tray back in Texas!" He walked up to me, grabbing my arm to reveal the cigarette burns on my arm. "The same way that you deserve to make an ash tray out of yourself."

Flashback to California
Seth
I sat in school accommodation with a cigarette in my hand, I don't even smoke but I want to feel something, I need to feel something. I know he's here, I've seen him lurking around everywhere I go but I just haven't got the strength to confront him or to do something about it. I can't ever imagine standing up in court against him, he'd twist all my words and make sure the jury thought I was lying. So instead I'm making my way through a pack of 20, just burning them out on my arm around where he burnt me back in Texas. The hot sensation subsides after a while and you just go back to feeling nothing, feeling numb.

I know it's only a matter of time before he steps out of the shadows and hurts me again, I don't know why he's so hellbent on ruining my life. I just want to be myself, I just want to live a normal life. Why does it matter if I'm different, if how I am bothers him so much then why can't he just leave me alone!

There's a rap of knocks on my door and I just feel like it's him, I stand up pushing the cigarettes under my bed as I open the door. He's got a bottle of whiskey in his hand, half-drunk and his skin has almost got a yellow tinge to it. "Hello Seth, I said I was always going to be with you." He pushed me back into the room and I just felt weak as the bottle of whiskey smashed beside me. "You can't run now, nobody is going to save you now!"

End of Flashback

Seth
"Please just stop this and go home! Go back to Texas and leave me alone, I can't keep running because of you!" I cried out to him and he just laughed in my face, grabbing at my collar and slamming me into the nearest wall. I put my hand up to stop the onslaught from Becky and Roman. "You just don't get it do you! You don't deserve to live Seth, because you stole your mother from me! When she was sick all her attention was on you because you couldn't just be a normal fucking boy, your mother might as well have died 3 months earlier and I wouldn't have noticed the difference!" He screamed in my face. "You can't blame me because my mother didn't want to spend time with you, she was dying! It wasn't my fault, none of it was my fault. I didn't even know she was sick until she died, so this isn't my fault! You can't hate me for something I had no control over." He punched me in my stomach and I doubled over as he released his grip on my shoulders. "Yes I can! You stole her from me and now you deserve to die, you deserve everything thing that's about to happen to you!" He started to kick and I heard Becky and Roman desperately trying to pull him off but failing miserably, I heard the sirens and I saw Becky's phone on the kitchen table.

"Which one of you phoned them?" He shouted, his anger filling the room. "I did, they heard the whole thing." Becky tried to make herself sound strong, but her voice was broken as she looked down at me. "You little bitch!" He ran at her as the police filed into the apartment. "Sir stop!" He punched Becky and she fell to the ground, I couldn't stop the tears from falling down my face as I watched my dad get tased, when he refused to give up on Becky. "Sir you are under arrest for the assault of Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins, You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention now something which you later rely on in court. Anything you do say may be given in evidence." He still tried to fight as the handcuffed him and pulled him off the floor. "You will pay for this Seth, you will fucking pay for this!"

My whole body started to shake as I realised what I had just done, what if the police can't find enough evidence in the next 24 hours to charge him? What if they release on him on bail, because then I know he won't take any mercy and he will kill me.

"Seth?" Becky called out as she got to her feat, grimacing a little as she held onto her side. "Becky what have you done? He's going to kill me." I whispered and Becky swallowed. "No, I won't let him and the police they have seen it with their own eyes! There's no chance he's getting out, now please let's take you to the hospital and make sure you're alright." Her voice was soft and gentle, which was different to her normal tone. "Okay, okay." I looked across the room at Roman who still had a panicked look on his face. "Ro?" He locked eyes with me, with realisation heavy in his face. "We don't have to run anymore." And I just nodded, the relief flooding every part of him. "We don't have to run anymore."
