Chapter 2: Uraraka
Oh man am I nervous. After Kaminari had decided on this little bet, the class had decided by process of elimination who would be first to try to flirt with Bakugo. Apparently, I was a popular choice. Several of the guys had been persistent in how adorable they thought I was, and how, since I'm friends with Deku, it would make sense that Bakugo hadn't wanted to admit his feelings for me. I thought all of this was complete crap, though. He obviously liked somebody that he didn't think he had a chance with, or else he would have taken what he wanted. He was way out of my league, so I didn't think it was me. Maybe Yaoyorozu? I didn't know. All I knew was that I had to flirt with Bakugo today, and no matter how he reacted, I couldn't back down until he went to bed tonight. The entire class would be acting like it was natural, and would be observing his every move.
I had to admit, I was nervous, but I also felt as though I was cheating on my feelings for Deku. Deku was cute, and my heart did somersaults when I was around him. Just for today though, I had to swallow my feelings for Deku... Or maybe not. Maybe, just maybe, I could channel my feelings for Deku into how I treated Bakugo today. Well, it was a start.
I waited in the common area kitchen for Bakugo to come down from his dorm. There were a few people down here, a few to observe, and a few just waiting to leave for class. I had decided to make myself and Bakugo breakfast. I sat, picking at my eggs. I heard stomping coming down the stairs, and I knew it was him. My heart raced as he appeared at the bottom of the stairs.
"H-Hey, Bakugo! I made, uh, breakfast, if you want some -?" I called out to him. I could feel my face flush. He squinted at me, but headed my direction. I felt a swell in my chest. Was it actually me that he liked?
"Tch. Round face. You burned the fucking bacon." He turned his nose up after two bites, then made to leave. I frowned a bit, but wasn't too shocked. I quickly cleared his plate away, then went after him.
"Wait!" I called out. He stopped, but didn't turn to face me. I stopped where I was at, and asked, "Do you want to walk to class together?" His shoulders tensed, but he didn't answer me. I took this as a good sign, and quickly made to catch up with him.
We walked in awkward silence the entire way to class. I had tried to speak to him, but he had put his headphones in. Well, today can't get much worse, right?
I decided to sit beside him in class. When I took the seat to his left, he raised his eyebrow at me, but said nothing. I glanced over at a few of my classmates, receiving two thumbs up from Kaminari, who apparently thought it was going well. Deku looked slightly worried, but I gave him a small smile, and he seemed content for the time being.
"If you're just going to make eyes at fucking Deku all class, then you might as well go sit by him and leave me the fuck alone." I snapped my head around to meet Bakugo's eyes. He was glaring at me, seemingly pissed.
"Oh, no, I'm sorry! I won't make eyes at him. I.. I don't like him all too much anyway." I admitted to him, hoping he would give me some kind of hint.
"Tch. Not like I fucking care about who you like. Just don't distract me."
The rest of the classes before lunch went by. I would walk with him to class, then take a seat beside him, and he wouldn't acknowledge me. During English with Present Mic, I decided to try to pass him a note the old-fashion way.
"Hey :3" I wrote. I folded the piece of paper, and placed it on the edge of his desk. I heard Kaminari gasp behind me. I watched as Bakugo reached for the piece of paper slowly. I didn't even realize I was holding my breath until finally, his fingers touched the note... promptly blowing it to ash. I let out a sigh, and I heard a snicker from behind me, though I felt too dejected to turn around to find out which of my classmates had thought that was funny.
At lunch, I decided to sit with Bakugo. Usually, Kirishima, Kaminari, Sero and Ashido were the only ones who sat with him. I walked with him to lunch, and promptly sat directly beside him at the table. His eyes flared with sudden anger, but he seemed to think better of whatever it was, and focused mainly on his lunch.
Lunch wasn't too bad. I found it easy to joke with the other four at the table, though Bakugo stayed deathly quiet. Finally, Kaminari said something that set him off.
"So, how long have you liked Uraraka?" I choked. This wasn't part of the bet. It was supposed to be just me today. I stared up, wide-eyed at Kaminari, who was smirking at Bakugo... who promptly blew Kaminari's lunch tray across the room.
"What the fuck did you say to me?" He snarled. Kaminari only laughed.
"Dude, chill, I noticed you've been practically hanging on her all day. I'm glad you could come to terms with your feel-" He was cut off by a hand on his throat.
"I. Do not. Have feelings. For fucking Round Face. She's been trying to hop on me all fucking day. It's irritating." I blinked. Even though I had no feelings for Bakugo, his words stung. I got up from the table, excusing myself, and left the room. I heard Deku calling after me, but I was too upset to care. The bad part was, I had to keep up the act until Bakugo went to bed, or I would lose my money in the betting pool automatically.
I finished my lunch alone in the courtyard, then found Bakugo, walking to class with him. He looked a bit guilty when he saw me, but said nothing. When the final bell rang, I got up and packed my bag up, trying to hurry to meet up with Bakugo so we could walk to the dorms together.
What I wasn't expecting was for him to be waiting for me outside the classroom. He didn't look angry.
"O-Oh, hey!" I tried to put on my brightest smile for him.
"Tch. Come on." He held out his hand for me. I felt my eyes go wide, allowing him to pull at my hand, taking it into his own.
We walked in silence, my hand sitting loosely in his. When we finally got to the dorms, he pulled me aside.
"Look. I don't fucking know what's up, but ah... I don't. I don't like you. Not like this," He made a general motion with his hands. He looked awkward, "But if Deku pissed you off, and you're just wanting to get back at him for something..." Oh. Oh.
"No no no no! It's nothing like that! It's..uh..I just thought maybe you needed a friend. I'm sorry I've been weird all day." I nervously rubbed the back of my neck. He scowled, then went ahead of me into the common area. He went straight to his room, and nobody saw him for the rest of the evening, so I guess I got off easy.
I sighed, sinking down into the couch, my head in my hands. I felt the couch sink beside me, somebody sitting down.
"Hey, Uraraka, you okay?" It was Deku. I was too emotionally exhausted to even register my feelings for him at the moment. I let me head rest on his shoulder, finally allowing myself to relax. He seemed to sense the peace that came over me, because he didn't ask any other questions. We sat there, content, until I dozed off. I'm not sure how long it was, but I remember Deku carrying me to bed, and then retiring off to his own room.
I smiled softly at the warmth that spread over me from him carrying me like that, then allowed myself to drift off.
One thing was for sure though, Bakugo definitely didn't like me.
And Kaminari was going to pay for what he did at lunch.
