Chapter 4

"Whatever you want to say, not now. Not ever. Please just leave me alone because I've got somewhere to be now." I glare at him and walk past him.

I go over to my locker and take out my notes. I know I missed all my classes today but I know I've got a Maths project to hand in by this week. Missing all my classes today was actually great, but my Maths teacher is a bitch in the neck and even though he has a reason for my absence today, he'll bug me for a reason like he doesn't know. So yeah, I gotta hand in the project by tomorrow if I wanna stay in his good books. Turning around, I bump into Mason James Butler. Again. For the third time in that day.

Oh for God's sake.

"Hello, Mr.Snob, please get out of my way before I actually cut your balls and hang you and your balls from a flagpole." I spoke in my mind.

Mason's eyebrows shoot up and disappear under his shaggy brown hair. I stare at him in confusion.

"You know if you want to look at my balls so bad, you could just ask me sweetie." He says, in his very arrogant and not to mention annoying voice of his.

Man, what's wrong with me today? Why am I thinking out loud?

"Mason sweetie, just move. Please, I'm begging you. I had a really bad day today." I tell him.

"No!" He states.

Rolling my eyes, I pretend to sniff the air around me and am met with a delicious smell of masculine cologne. But I'm gonna stick to my original plan instead of swooning at his feet. Oh my god what's wrong with me today?

"Mason?"

"Yeah?" He asks, leaning closer.

"Is that stale fish I smell on you?"

Mason jerks back as if he's been slapped. His eyes fill with anger which slowly dissolves into amusement.

"No why?" He asks, trying in vain to kip the smirk off his face.

"Oh but that's what I smell." I reply.

"Ah, but Hailey. I'm perfectly happy standing here and talking to you.

"Then you should stop talking to me and go take a bath." I snap

His smile drops and a offended look takes over, if I didn't know better, I would think that he's hurt. But that's the thing, I do know better and I'm not going to drown in his good looks and evil charms.

"I bathe quite frequently, thank you very much." He retorts.

Snorting, I push past him. Before leaving though I sneaked a glance at him and what I saw shocked me. He looks... amazed? What would this disgusting man whore find in me that amazed him? Shaking my head to get rid of these crazy and unexplained thoughts. I walk out and welcome the sunshine on my face. I squint my eyes and see Amelia sitting on the roof of my car. I climbed up my blue Kia Forte compact sedan and joined her. I had gotten the car 8 months ago.

Well, it had come out the previous year. But my dad thought that since I was getting good grades and all that shit that parents thought was worth getting a very expensive car for their only daughter. I was really mad when I'd seen the car in my driveway some 8 months ago. I did have my driver's licence then, I was 16 but I had screamed and shouted at my parents asking them why they'd wasted their precious money on such an expensive car nevertheless. And it wasn't even used, it was brand fucking new. Blue coated and shining in the sunlight.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"It's not even my birthday. But if you wanted to give me that," I said, pointing out the window, "why the hell did you get me a freaking pendant made of gold?"

My father had stared at me sternly and said, "First off, you like pendants. Second, you wanted a car," He holds up a hand, cutting off my protests. "Third, you're our only daughter, we love you. You work hard and you make us proud. Besides this costs nothing. It's not like you were stalking the car on the internet, yeah?"

I shut up after that because, well, I was stalking that car. I was saving my money for it, but how the hell did my parents know that? Amelia didn't know about my obsession with the car, so she couldn't have told my parents. That meant that they'd checked my laptop. And my dad probably realized that I had found out the reason that why that particular model was doing outside my house, instead of any old car they could've gotten me. And my dad also probably realized what was coming for him next.

Me. That's what. I was coming after him.

With a warrior cry, I jumped off the floor and pounced on his very still and very shocked figure. I threw my arms around his neck and he placed his hands on my waist, spinning me around.

My dad was 'as fit as a fiddle'. His words, not mine. And no wonder, my parents were both of the same age when they'd had me at 19. So my 35 year old daddy was young and healthy.

"I'm gonna kill you," I whispered menacingly in his ear. "But thanks for the car." His chest shook with laughter.

"If you kill me, who's gonna coax your mum to let you go to parties? Not to mention that if I'm not here you wouldn't have been able to date Evan and you probably won't be able to date ever again." Once again, the conversation had become serious.

"Dad-"

He held up his hand. "What's in the past stays in the past. Let's not talk about it yeah?"

I nodded, holding back my tears. It was obvious that my dad was disappointed that I'd dated 'someone like Evan'. But I loved my dad and I realized that he was disappointed because he thought that I could do much better than him. Much, much better.

"Thanks dad, for everything. But most of all thank you for having sex with mum when you did." I say winking and take the car keys out of his hands before he pockets them.

I rush over to Amelia's house to show off. Obviously.

Now

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Babe, ya doing alright?" I asked my crazy best friend.

Was she lusting after Mason? I wondered. But then again, Amelia lusted after most guys, ever since I'd met her. That was one of the reasons that I actually loved her for. Not the fact that she lusted after guys but the fact that her antics to get that guy, whoever it is at current, made me laugh. She was the only person in a long time who made my dimple come out.

"You should stop calling me that." She said now. I narrowed my eyes at her.

"Stop calling you what? Babe?"

"Yes" She said without opening her eyes.

"And why the hell would I do that?"

"My darling Hailey," she says sitting up and crossing her legs. "one of these days, a guy will come and that guy, that guy will steal your heart. And when he does, he'll come up with pet names, which you will no doubt find stupid, now. But when he calls you these 'stupid' pet names, you'll be living for them, yearning to hear them." She says, forming air quotes when she said the word stupid.

I roll my eyes in exasperation. "Why would I stop calling my honey bunny babe?" I ask her, pinching her cheeks. She slapped my hands away, laughing. But I saw something in her eyes, and I could identify the emotion without a doubt. Fear. My best friend was scared, scared that she might lose me to the man who stole my heart. After Evan, I didn't want to fall in love anytime soon, but I hadn't given up one guys either.

I gripped her shoulders, a little more forcefully than I intended to. "No. Okay? No you're my best friend. You've been here for me when I needed you most. I'm not gonna abandon you. You're like my sister, you are my sister. Which means you're my family and that's not something you abandon or leave behind? Okay?" I ask her

Letting out a breath, she nodded her head, "If I'm your family, can I drive your car today?" Laughing, I hand her my keys. "It's all yours for today," She claps her hands in happiness. "Oh, and Amelia? I don't mind that you like Mason. Even if that means I'll have to endure your squeals on the hottest male specimen in the world."

She glares at me, "Please. Like I didn't go through that in the time of that stupid, idiotic jerk called Evan." She says playfully.

"I'm right here." Comes a voice. I glance down and see no other than Evan Smith and Mason Butler.

Oh joy

I jump down and glared at both of them in turn. "What do you want?" I ask. Mason ignores me and glances at Amelia, flashing her one of his smirks. I rolled my eyes, Amelia is probably swooning right now. Evan is quietly studying me. I turn my attention back to Mason and Amelia.

"So my car broke down and we have somewhere to be and I just wanna know if you could give us a lift?" Mason was saying.

What?

"Oh hell no!" I exclaim.

But Amelia apparently has other plans. Her eyes light up and a exited "Yes, of course" slips out of her mouth. I groan. Why the hell did I give her my car keys? If I still had them, I could have hopped into my car and drive home. Mason chuckles and opens the front door.

"Oh no, you're hitching a ride in my car, you sit where I tell you to sit, behind. Now." He rolls his eyes and steps back. I get in and put on my seat belt and lean my head against the window. This was the longest day of my life.

"Are you going to the party tonight?" Evan asks. I turn my face to look at Amelia. She chews her bottom lip thoughtfully.

"Yes we're going." She finally says after a while.

"I'm not going. I have to record something and send it to Mrs Black.

"You're no fun," She says. "we're gonna change that tonight. Besides you can't say no to me."

"Watch me."

"Do you like dancing?" She asks. Ha, I don't like dancing I love dancing. She set her own trap.

"No." I say. The car jerks to a abrupt stop at the side of the road. I smile.

"What's gotten into you? You love dancing"

My smile widens into a grin. "That's right."

"Then why'd you... oh." She shakes her head and starts driving again.

"Smart ass." She mutters under her breath.

"Oh, umm Mason? Where'd I drop you to?" She asks. My mood instantly plummets. I'd forgotten that they were in the car. "Here." He replies. I look out and see a huge mansion.

They get out of my car. I'll have to get rid of their smells from the inside of my car later.

"Oh and both of you?" He asks, poking his head back in. "Be ready by eight at Hailey's house. You're going to the party with us."

Yay! Note the sarcasm.
