Chapter 26
-Flashback-
Raine had known that Terra would appear at any moment when they themself were talking to Hunter in the corridor.
It was definitely a wrong time, after all, the Plant Coven leader always came to them around this time and brought them the tea that helped against their headaches.
But when they saw Hunter standing in the hallway so lost, they just couldn't bring themself to continue playing their part of a brainwashed person, they just had to stop and ask Hunter if everything was okay. Especially since they were secretly kept up to date by Darius about a lot more.
When they walked on and Terra appeared, they were relieved that they weren't standing with Hunter anymore. They had some suspicions that they haven't told Darius yet...it was just too soon...they had to be sure before they charged Darius with them.
With a friendly and thankful smile they took the tea from Terra, whistled softly to change its components with Bard Magic without her noticing, then they emptied it completely and handed the container back to Terra, who accepted it with a smile.
"I hope your headache will get better soon Sproud.", she said worried, but Raine knew her well enough to know that this was just an act. "Yeah...I hope so too..." they sighed softly and acted their part, seeming to trust completely blindly when everything else was the case. But Raine knew that Hunter trusted her almost blindly.... Well maybe not 100% but good enough to let her in secrets. The only thing that Raine didn't understand yet was why she passed it on to Darius. Did she want to test Darius? Because as far as Terra was concerned, Raine had a similar assumption as the one she played to themself.
They assumed she was just pretending to be so friendly... she was probably more on Belo's side than any of them knew and was willing to tell him every wrong word she overheard from Hunter. They found out that they were right about that when they went into the throne room together with Terra.
Raine thought they were here to receive a mission, or just for a routine check. They had been here several times since their "reversal", presumably Belos just wanted to check if Terra really had them under control herself.
But today was different. Raine stood silently next to Terra, playing emotionless, brainwashed...loyal...
It was hard not to show emotions when Terra suddenly reported Belos how the other Coven Heads had been talking about wanting to change things after discussing suspicions about Hunter. Raine hadn't personally attended the conversation, but darius had already told everything. It shocked them all the more that Terra, who somehow seemed to be so positively disposed towards Hunter from the beginning, now obviously stabbed him in the back. After all, she told Belos that there were signs of Hunter that aroused these suspicions, or rather what he had told Darius. That was a problem, a big one... also that the Emperor now knew of their little scheme, fortunately few knew of the REAL secret rebellion. But...what else could they have expected from Terra.
Raine had known her for a long time, to be more precise, since they were a small child and still went to school. She was just a psycho who often did the unexpected just for the fun of it. This was probably one of her "Fun Actions" again. But Raine was more afraid for hunter than for anyone else.... After all, before this whole brainwashing thing, they had often exchanged a few words with the boy because they had always noticed that something was wrong...but now that they knew what Belos was doing....now that belos knew because of Terra, what the Coven Heads had talked about....because of hunter....that made them fear for the boy. This man would stop at nothing...
They needed to talk to Darius...and...to Hunter... Unfortunately, Raine couldn't just walk away, so they continued to play their role until Terra left the throne room. When they arrived in front of it, they walked a bit and talked about trivial things, at least for Raine, since their head was already somewhere else.
They were happy when they finally parted ways and after a last look around they could finally run to Darius to warn him. When Raine arrived at Darius' door, they knocked and then entered the room with a serious expression, closing the door behind them. "Listen we have a problem."
-Flashback end-
"What's going on?" Darius replied when Raine spoke of a problem. Without hesitation, Raine told him what they had seen and heard.
Darius was surprised, even if Raine was sure that he had somehow suspected something like that. "In the last few days she seemed so...Terra-like....that surprised me...but that she went so far...first with Belos and now with that too..." , said Darius and sighed annoyed. They, too, were more concerned with Hunter.
He was only 16 and both of them had instincts to protect him. Maybe just because he was younger...or just because they knew he had no one else to do it and really cared about him....
"Yes...we have to act...quickly... ." Darius nodded in agreement. "I'll talk to him. It's too obvious when there are three of us." Now Raine nodded in agreement.
They left Darius' room together and parted inconspicuously but quickly. Raine made sure that they had an alibi at the other end of the castle, after all nobody knew about their little trick with the tea.
In the meantime, Darius ran to Hunter's room and knocked on it. The younger one had opened it to him and only sighed annoyed. "I thought the topic was over." Darius shook his head. "It's not why I'm here...well, not 100%...it kind of has something to do with it." Hunter raised an eyebrow in question, but let the Abomination leader enter so they could have more privacy.
"What is it." Hunter just murmured, arms crossed, eyes on Darius. "You shouldn't trust Terra anymore." the older one began. "Why not?" Hunter asked confused. Darius briefly considered beating around the bush, but then decided that the direct truth would be better.
"She told Belos...well...what you told me." Hunter widened his eyes. "But how did she know...did you tell her...? The others too...?" The boy looked at him, he looked hurt and Darius knew it had been a mistake but he had hoped it would lead to Hunter's well being.
"You told them... and now Belos knows...", Hunter repeated before he broke eye contact with Darius and just started running out of the room.
"Wait!" Darius called after him and followed him too, but Hunter was too quick around the corners of the castle and he lost sight of him far too quickly...
Well maybe he just needed time...
Darius hoped he just needed time.... But he knew it wasn't just time the boy needed...
He just wondered how Belos would proceed from now on....
Hunter just ran through the castle, he didn't know exactly where to go, as long as he was far away from certain people. Eventually he allowed himself to lean against one of the castle walls and pause for a moment.
What should he do?? How much had Terra told Belos...why had she done it in the first place... Hunter could still remember how he had always appreciated her before he had gotten closer to the Coven Heads...had she only acted since then...?
Before that she had threw him a smile, but otherwise she seemed rather reserved towards him or wanted to leave quickly... Well, and sometimes she seemed almost dogged about some things.... Had she planned it all along and just waited for the right moment, which had finally arrived after Darius and his mission...?
Hunter didn't want to think about it...he probably shouldn't trust everyone...was that what Belos meant when he said: "You shouldn't rely too much on your new friends."? Did he already know something back then...? Hunter was almost afraid to face his uncle...okay, he WAS aftaid.
His uncle could see this as a betrayal, meaning Hunter would face punishment. He just hoped Darius hadn't told the Coven Heads about Flapjack, but something told him he'd only been talking about Belos.
When Hunter looked around he couldn't see anyone in the corridor, he was here all alone...but somehow it worried him now that Belos knew about a lot. This caused him to start moving again.
Soon two coven scouts and Kikimora were standing infront of him. "Stop Golden Guard! The Emperor wants to see you. Immediately.", Kikimora grumbled and Hunter's blood stopped in his veins. His heart began to beat faster....what should he do?!??!
A/N: yes guys what do u want him to do hehe
