Chapter 20

The Coven Parade was a resounding success, although only a few expected Emperor Belos to show his face. However, he was now often seen in the castle without a mask, many were still a little surprised to see him without it, only Golden Guard seemed as always like Darius had noticed it since he saw him again. "I've seen him before without a mask. I mean I'm his right hand," the boy had replied when Darius asked him about it. Of course it made sense, but it was still strange that the boy had previously known as only one the face of Belos.

Instead of the boy, he now saw Kikimora less often in the areas of the castle he was traveling in, but that actually made him happy because he didn't like her any more than he had liked Golden Guard a time ago.

He and the Coven Heads had learned that Golden Guard was Belos nephew more by accident, as the boy had slipped it rather accidentally. This explained some of their questions, even if Darius wasn't sure if this was really the only reason why this child had become Belos right hand and not just had another role in the coven.

The Plant Coven leader also seemed to be the way Darius knew her from time to time. Sometimes she was really a mystery to him. In front of Golden Guard, she always seemed so caring and Darius knew she had that side...but in the few moments he saw Kikimora, he also saw the Plant Coven Leader staring at her with a strange look, like she might turn into pure evil. A superior smile and a cold stare. Very different from how she was in the coven room, but well there was a reason she was where she was, why she was a coven leader other than because of her abilities. The same could probably apply to himself. However, it annoyed him that the Plant Coven leader was also like usual to him. He hated it when people made fun of him and his beloved clean clothes.

Meanwhile, Golden Guard was pacing restlessly through the castle, but only because he was stressing himself out again. The last few days had already been stressful because of the Coven Parade, but with the Day of Unity just over a month away, it seemed he was busier than ever...

In addition, the little Palisman Flapjack robbed him of the little sleep he got. His singing woke him early in the morning. Although the bird sang softly so that others could not hear it, he did it right next to Hunter's ear, which got on his nerves at least in the morning. Even though he had already taken the little bird deep into his heart and really enjoyed listening to his songs, he wondered why the little one didn't start singing a few hours later, well probably because he was a bird. Hunter could always hear them chirping anyway as he had noticed.
