I Can't Lose You, Too...
Jesse woke up, still in the tent. She rubbed her eyes. The bed was really uncomfortable, and her back became stiff. Lukas wasn't in the room. He was probably outside, doing something. She couldn't think of what, though.
She got up, from her bed, and walked outside. The area was clear. There was nothing built there. Just the trees, and mountains.
"Hey, Jesse." Lukas said, walking up to her.
"Hey, Lukas. We leaving already?" She asked.
"Yeah. I need to take apart the tent."
"Can I help?" She asked.
"Uh. Sure, I guess."
Soon, the group was on the move, again. They walked for about a half hour. Everyone was tired, by then.
"Psst! Hey Jesse?" Ivor said.
"I'm right here, you don't need to whisper." Jesse walked up to him.
"Look." Ivor took out the hammer. It was glowing, bright colors.
"Woah! What is that?" Jesse asked.
"I don't know. I've never read that this would happen."
Lukas walked up to Ivor and Jesse. "What's going on- what the heck is that?"
"No idea." Jesse said. She reached out to touch it, but when she did, it glowed extremely brightly, and there was a giant explosion. Sending Lukas and Ivor to the ground, and Jesse's back hit a tree. She fell to the ground, unconscious. Lukas got up, and ran to her.
"Jesse! Oh, God! Please, wake up! Jesse?" He held her, in his arms.
"What the heck just happened?" Petra yelled. "Jesse! What happened?" She ran up to the two on the ground.
"Come on, Jesse, wake up!"
"We need to go back! Now!" Ivor yelled.
Lukas picked Jesse up, bridal style, and the group ran for the portal.
--------------
Lukas lay Jesse down on Ivor's table.
"She's not breathing, Ivor! She's not breathing-!"
"Calm down, Lukas. I'm sure it's nothing serious." He opened her eye, and shined a piece of glowstone in front of it. His face paled.
"What? What happened to Jesse?" Lukas began to tense.
"It's- She's-"
"What! Happened!"
"She's in a coma."
Those words caused tears to fall down Lukas's face. His elbows hit the table, and his hands were on his forehead. You could clearly tell he was stressed.
"So, basically, you're telling me she's dead."
"That is- a possibility."
Lukas took a deep breath, and slammed his fist on the table. Then he released, and his anger turned to sobbing. "Jesse... Jesse, no..."
After a while, Lukas walked upstairs. The group looked really concerned.
"She's- She's in a coma." It was hard to say the words that escaped Lukas's mouth.
He sat down, his face motionless, and still. He didn't know what to think. For all he knew, the love of his life was dead.
Everyone else started to cry. Petra tried to stay strong, but it didn't work.
Nobody slept that night. Petra and Lukas stayed on the roof.
"She's dead, Petra. I know it." Lukas's face was wet with tears.
"Don't say that, Lukas. Jesse is strong."
"I know. I know, she is. But- she could starve, or dehydrate, or worse. I don't want to lose her, too."
"She'll be fine, Lukas. I promise."
"I really hope you're right."
The two watched the moon move across the sky, and eventually, the sun changed it to different colors.
"I wish Jesse was here to see this." Lukas said.
"I do, too. Just, pretend she's sleeping, for a very long time."
"Yeah. Like that's gonna work. I don't want her to die, Petra. Ivor said it could be a possibility."
"But, there's also the possibility of her not dying. Just, stay strong, alright? I know things have been falling apart lately, but we've gone so far. Jesse will wake up. Eventually." There was a pause.
"I'm gonna go check on her." Lukas got up, and crawled through his window, and walked down to Ivor's room.
"How's she doing?" Lukas asked.
"Her heart's still beating. That's a good sign." Ivor said.
"She's breathing, right?"
"Not on her own. I've had to give her some potions to help with that."
Lukas sighed. "Don't let her die, OK?"
"Wouldn't dream of it."
"Thanks."
Jesse wasn't on the table, anymore. She was on a bed, Ivor set up. She still had her necklace on.
"So, when do you think she'll wake up?" Lukas asked.
"Who knows? She won't be waking up for a while, I'll tell you, that."
Lukas took Jesse's hand. "She promised she wouldn't leave me. I trust her."
Ivor sighed. "Well, I need to go get some ingredients for a potion, so I'll be right back."
"Alright."
Ivor walked out of the room.
"Jesse, I uh, I don't don't know if you can hear me, but, please don't die. I don't know what I'd do without you. And it's really hard- knowing that I won't see your smile for a long time. And possibly ever again." Lukas started tearing up. "I- I love you Jesse. I know it sounds like a word that people say to each other, but I really mean it. My life has been so great ever since I met you, and it kept getting better. And now, I'll never see your face, again." Tears rolled down his face. "Thank you. For everything. You just let me into your life, like it was nothing, and you treated me so well. It was heartbreaking seeing you go into the wither, because I didn't think I'd see you, again. I don't know if you're gonna wake up, but I trust you, and hope that you keep your promise." He moved Jesse's hair away from her face. "Well, I'm gonna go back upstairs. I'll be back later. I promise. Don't go anywhere. Please." Lukas let go of Jesse hand, and walked back upstairs, and onto the roof.
"How is she?" Petra asked.
"Ivor said that she won't wake up for a while. A long while."
"That's better than never."
Lukas sighed. "Sure is." He sat down. "So, how've you been holding up?"
"Better than before. But I'm still exhausted. I've been getting some sleep, and it's been helping a lot."
"That's good."
"And you?"
"You should know, by now. But in case you haven't heard, Jesse's in a coma."
"Yep. I heard. You told me."
Lukas sighed. "I don't want her to die. She means too much to me."
"None of us do."
"But what if she does die? What're we gonna do, then?"
"Then, we cross that bridge if we get there. Jesse's just asleep."
"I know. You're right. She's asleep for Notch knows how long."
"She'll wake up sooner or later." There was a pause. "Notch." Petra chuckled.
"Don't judge me."
"I like that." Lukas smiled.
Petra sighed.
"You hungry? I haven't seen you eat in almost a week."
"Eh. I could go for something."
The two got up, and into the kitchen. Lukas didn't eat anything. He was too worried about Jesse. Petra didn't eat much, either. Silence filled the room for a while.
"Mind if we check on Jesse?" Petra asked.
"Yeah, sure."
"Hey, Ivor." Petra said.
"Hello, Petra. Lukas."
"Just came to check on Jesse." She walked to the bed. "Can she hear me?"
"I believe so." Ivor said.
"Alright. Uh, Jesse? This is kinda a bad time, but, I never thanked you, for helping me. You made me so much stronger, and when you wake up, I hope I can return the favor. Just, don't give up. Stay strong. We need you." She sighed. "Well, you should rest. I'll see you later."
Lukas and Petra went back on the roof.
"Remember Magnus?" Lukas asked. "He died in his coma."
"But he didn't have armor. Jesse did."
"I know. She also made a promise, to me,"
"Please don't leave me, Jesse." He said. Tears went down the side of his face and into his hair.
"Of course, I won't leave you." Jesse's tears got heavier. "I will never leave you!"
"I just hope she keeps it..."
