Prologue
Their world is not a large one. It consists of five continents, all with their own unique ecosystems. On each continent are several settlements, ranging from small villages, to bustling towns, even to vibrant cities. There is a single capital settlement per continent that regulates commerce and travel across the collective ocean.
Lively Town, Baram City, Capim Cape, Noe Town, and the Sahra Province. These five settlements are those capitals, and they signify the advancement of modern Pokémon life as they know it. As ironic as it may be, however, advances in civilization threaten the decline of civility. This is what currently threatens their way of living: a self-destruction of their own volition. Like many before them, and many that would come after, they would eventually suffer a similar fate.
Their story, however, takes place on the same continent as Lively Town, but not in the town itself. Closer to the central region of the continent, where bustling forests meet expansive fields meet towering mountains, is a new place to settle. A future village. A village that, just like all the others, was founded with a dream. A dream to make a community where families can live peacefully, where friends can become family, and even where wayward strangers can become friends.
A truly serene place. That is where one of their many stories begins.
In the same year that Serene was founded by a Lucario named Ernest, he had a son with his Lurantis wife Veronica. Their son was a Riolu, who they would name Xander.
Across from their house, two more were built, the three similar buildings in a triangle formation on the small rise that overlooked what would be the village square in years to come. About a five minute walk from the sandy shore of the lake, and about a twenty minute one from the hill across said lake, where the entirety that would eventually be Serene Village could be seen.
In these two neighboring houses were families of two. One, a shiny Delphox mother named Roswyn and her shiny Fennekin daughter Sierra, who had been born just four months prior to Xander. The other, a mother named Renée and her son Jake—both Druddigon—who would be born four years later.
Roswyn and Renée had been close friends with Ernest and Veronica before the two of them were even married, and when all four of them lived in Lively Town about two hundred miles away. But as their town became more susceptible to modernity and worldly problems, they had all decided to go somewhere else. Somewhere new. Only two weeks after Ernie and Vera officially tied the knot, the quartet had started off west, on their journey to find a home just for them.
Seven years after they founded the village, the Lucario-Lurantis pair would have their second and last child, a shiny Riolu boy who they would name Rodney. In the time leading up to this, Serene would get its first outsiders in the form of two more Pokémon couples looking to start a family. This would be the start towards its slow progression to being an actual village, which would be Ernest's ultimate goal once his sons would be all grown and out of the house.
Years would pass, and life would really start to settle in Serene. No worries about the outside world, more strangers gradually finding a new home in the lakeside village, and overall many a beautiful reason to be proud of the natural Pokémon way. Life in simplicity and nature.
The "Serene way", some started to call it, like it was its own ideology. A culture, built upon minimalist ideals and any sentient being's natural urge for peace, tranquility, and serenity. And like a perfect occurrence, not many would flock there to tear down the foundation of such a proud people, as even after a dozen years, Serene would stay nearly untouched.
