Chapter 11
"So, what do you have there?" I shifted in place, a full moon at the horizon beaming down on us. The silence of nature at this hour made the human world seem ghostly. The breeze dancing through the leaves was the only noise reaching our ears. It was the only thing reminding us there was some life around us.
Mammon was holding a simple medium-sized chest with its ridges made out of gold while the rest of it was pure wood. He took a deep breath as he slowly opened it and revealed a stash of various types of jewelry scattered all around the chest's bottom. The content ranged from necklaces to rings and from bracelets to earrings. Any type of jewelry you'd think of, it was right there.
I reached out to grab one chain and the moment my fingers graced it, the intensity of the power emanating from it struck me. A weird buzzing started spreading all through my body and I immediately let go of it.
"What is this, Mammon?" I frowned.
"Heavenly things." He smiled grimly.
"How are we going to know which ones are disenchanted?"
"Just the ones that don't try to kill you." He mused, his eyes almost glistening in the dark.
"So we are just going to have to touch each one and hope we don't die?"
"Oh, come on, it won't be that bad! The worst that can happen to you is fainting." Mammon grumbled and took a seat on the grass. I followed right after him but still didn't dare reach out in that chest.
It was 3 a.m. in the human world, the time when the veil between realms was thinnest. This hour drew out more than just demons; other beings roamed too. We decided it wouldn't be suspicious for us to be out, trying to piece together our plan. With Mammon now sanctioned and me resented by most demons, we found ourselves isolated. No one wanted to associate with us, which, in a way, gave us the freedom to maneuver without prying eyes.
"So each of us takes one until we find one that we can use." I said before letting out a sigh after which Mammon was the first one to grab a ring. He immediately let it fall to the ground with a hiss. I chuckled at that but as I took another piece of jewelry I ended up dropping it the same way he did.
"This is kind of ridiculous." I mumbled. "When did you even accumulate all of this?"
"It's eons old." He replied without looking up as he continued dropping one piece after another.
"Whew, that's quite a while."
Mammon simply nodded as he was eagerly searching through the chest's contents. I soon joined him again after I took a brief break. The darkness around seemed like it grew in intensity. It slowly began becoming pitch black all around us. Was it true that the world was darkest before dawn? Maybe I should make a point of coming here during this hour.
About fifteen minutes later, Mammon grabbed a ring, and to my surprise, there was no hissing noise. In fact, he was holding it and grinning at me.
"We found it." Once again, his dark orbs almost sparkled in the darkness. He really did enjoy this.
"Nice!" I beamed and took it from his hand inspecting it closely. "I was beginning to think there weren't any."
"Almost thought the same, even though the probability hinted it wasn't possible." He said before getting up from the ground.
"I fear this is all going too smoothly. There's even a part of me that thinks the Devil knows about all of this." I confessed as I also stood up and fixed my gaze on the demon in front of me. He didn't even give off an air of reluctance, he was fully confident in this whole ordeal. I envied him.
"Has he become any different lately?" He inquired before pushing his hand in the pocket of his coat, taking out a pack of cigarettes. Why was he so into this? I'd never know.
I looked into the distance, towards the moon, trying to recollect all the recent encounters I had with the boss. "Hmm..." I hummed and then continued, "Kind of. But I think it's because I've started licking his boots again." I laughed, almost embarrassed to admit. However, it was the only thing that allowed me to pass through his clutches without being scathed. Flattery was the way to the Devil's heart and I wanted to pull out my tongue every time I gave him a compliment.
Mammon puffed out the cigarette smoke as his eyes slowly scanned me.
"That can't be easy." He noted. "But if he gives you no reason to suspect him I think we're in the clear."
"It's not that simple," I said sharply. "He's the Devil, Mammon. He's the Father of Lies, the ultimate trickster. He can make you believe anything he wants." I fixed my eyes on him with a small frown. How could he remain so self-assured? Despite my words, his confidence didn't waver. He continued to stare down at me with the same indifference. Not even the Devil could make him less arrogant. Could I dare say the Devil and Mammon were starting to resemble each other in this aspect? That couldn't be good.
"Oh, dear Asmo, ye of little faith," Mammon said with a light smile, placing a hand on my shoulder and sighing. I flinched slightly but decided to stand my ground. "We've got this. Stop being so negative. Soon, we'll have Loki on our side, and it'll be a bit easier." His words, meant to be reassuring, only heightened my concerns. Nonetheless, I chose not to argue and kept my mouth shut, unable to shake off the negativity that had been festering within me.
"Yeah..." I replied weakly, brushing his hand off my shoulder. "I need some of that confidence." He snickered, tossing his cigarette to the ground and stomping on it. "Why do you even smoke that?"
"It relaxes the body in a way," he said nonchalantly.
"How? It's just tobacco in there. Unless..." I trailed off, squinting at him suspiciously. Mammon's lips curled into a smirk, and I instantly understood. "You're getting high right now?!" I exclaimed in disbelief.
"Kind of..." he mumbled, trying to redeem himself.
My frustration bubbled up, and I couldn't help but shake my head. "Mammon, we're in the middle of planning something critical, and you're high?"
He shrugged, his smirk unfaltering. "It helps me think, clears my mind."
I sighed deeply, feeling the weight of our situation pressing down even harder. "You know, for once, I'd like to feel that sure about something. Everything feels like it's hanging by a thread, and you're just... so cavalier about it."
Mammon's expression softened slightly. "Look, Asmo, I get it. It's tough. But you have to trust that we'll get through this. We've been through worse, haven't we?"
I nodded reluctantly, though my doubts lingered. "I suppose."
He clapped me on the back. "There you go. Just hang in there a little longer. We've got this."
Then, the silence set in, neither of us willing to go back to Hell. We both knew full well we'd just have to be alone again. As much as he was a loner, he didn't seem a type to handle being hated well. I was more or less used to it all but Mammon used to be actually respected. Most demons wanted to be like him, they wanted to be under his commandment. But ever since he was stripped away from everything he knew, their opinions changed overnight.
Mammon's overall apparent indifference didn't make it obvious he cared much. However, I did think that smoking weed had become a thing for him recently. It couldn't be for any other reason than his inability to cope with the current situation. He tried so hard to keep it together, shoving all his feelings deep down, never allowing any emotion to show on his face. It was depressing to watch a once-proud demon seemingly fall apart before me.
His shoulders, once always squared with confidence, now slumped ever so slightly, betraying the weight he carried. The lines on his face, usually masked by his arrogance, were more pronounced, and his eyes, though still holding that gleam of defiance, seemed clouded with fatigue.
"Hey, what do you say we go to a human bar?" I suddenly asked him as I saw neither of us was about to leave any time soon.
"Won't it be... risky?" Oh so now he was worried.
"We need to loosen up a bit, come on. You go and leave the chest back in your room and I'll go find a bar that works all night." I patted his arm. I could see Mammon not fully trusting in the idea but he didn't show any sign of protest.
"Well, let's hope odds are in our favor. And don't lose that ring or we're screwed." He said sternly.
"You go ahead and leave it in your room just in case." I said as I handed it to him. I realized it was the best idea to do for now. If we were going to get drunk, I couldn't possibly trust myself with anything valuable. Mammon nodded and picked the chest up from the ground. With that, he turned away and opened the portal after which he stepped through it, leaving me by myself once again.
Taking a moment to focus, I concentrated on transforming my demonic features into something more human-like. With a subtle shift of energy, I willed my eyes to change from their usual black voids to a deep, warm brown, complete with whites. My sickly white skin tone gained a hint of healthy color, resembling a natural tan.
Satisfied with my appearance, I closed my eyes and focused on my surroundings, searching for a place that would be open all night. Sensing the pulse of the city around me, I honed in on the faint hum of nightlife nearby. I quickly teleported myself in a small gap between two buildings. It was a discreet spot where I could gather my thoughts without startling any nearby humans with my sudden appearance. While I was accustomed to the occasional fear my presence instilled in others, there were times when I simply craved peace without unnecessary disturbances.
I stepped out onto the narrow, cobbled, street. Not many people were around save from few outside of the club across the street. Some were simply smoking and others were yelling obscenities due to the intoxication. Two women were talking to each other energetically, their shimmering dresses barely concealing their thighs, while a young man doubled over a nearby trash can, succumbing to the effects of excess. I couldn't help but chuckle at the sight - humans were so delightfully vulnerable, each lost in their own world.
I started walking towards the bar and immediately caught many gazes upon me. Even though I could disguise my looks, I couldn't disguise the natural charm of the demon of lust. I just wished it wouldn't too much of a bother throughout the night.
As I approached the bar, a towering figure blocked the entrance, his imposing presence radiating an air of intimidation. His muscular frame and towering stature hinted at the potential for a formidable physical confrontation, but I remained unfazed. But, I was a demon so I merely looked at him once and used a slight compulsion after which he immediately moved away from the entrance. The murmurs of the onlookers reached my ears, but I paid them no mind as I pushed open the door and entered the club at last.
As I stepped inside, the pulsating beat of the music enveloped me, filling the air with an electrifying energy. The familiar sounds of human music, reminiscent of the tunes from the 80s, reverberated throughout the crowded space. A narrow hallway led me into the main area, where a sprawling dance floor greeted me, illuminated by a dazzling array of rainbow-colored lights that danced above the throngs of revelers.
Taking a moment to survey the scene, I scanned the room in search of an empty seat amidst the bustling crowd. Suddenly, Mammon appeared beside me, making me gasp in surprise.
"Hey." He said smiling, the lights beaming down on him. He was now also more human looking so I was glad I didn't need to remind him.
"You scared me." I breathed out and he simply shrugged.
"Let's go get a seat." I didn't expect him to take the charge all of a sudden. Especially considering he didn't seem too keen on the idea earlier.
Navigating through the bustling crowd was no easy feat, as elbows jabbed into us from every direction. Despite the annoyance, we pressed on until we finally found a pair of vacant seats at the crowded bar. Without a word exchanged between us, we signaled the bartender and ordered a round of shooters..
"How often have you gotten drunk, Mammon?" I asked him as the bartender placed thirty shots on the counter, looking at us with a bit of fear and concern.
"Not often to be honest. It's just not something that ever attracted me." He replied. There was a hint of arrogance in his voice but also sincerity.
"Well, let's see what kind of drunk you are." I smirked at him and started gulping down one shot after the other. Mammon stared at me for a bit and then led by my example until we both exhausted all the glasses of the liquid. My head started to spin a little bit already as I didn't take any pauses in between drinking.
"How are you feeling?" I asked, finding it a bit hard to make the words roll off my tongue.
"I feel like I can go on." He smiled mischievously and called the bartender over, ordering another thirty shots.
"Oh, I see I have a competition." It was rather amusing watching the once pompous demon just completely letting himself go. While it might have been a perfect opportunity to exploit his vulnerability had we not been friends, I pushed such thoughts aside. In the current chaos, he was one of the few I could rely on, and that was worth more than any fleeting advantage.
"Why are they playing ABBA?" Mammon suddenly spoke as he turned behind him. The humans looked like they completely lost their minds the moment The winner takes it all /The loser's standing small/ Beside the victory/ That's her destiny blasted from the speakers. I chuckled at the sight of them, fully immersed in the moment, experiencing every emotion to its fullest. There was an enviable humanity and mortality in their actions. Despite the transient nature of their existence, they faced it with unwavering hope, as determined as ever.
"It's a good song." I commented with a shrug and noticed the bartender bringing over another thirty shots.
"Are you two good?" The man suddenly asked us, actually looking worried. It was kind of sweet. Nobody would care about that in Hell.
"Yeah, we're good. Don't worry. We do this a lot." I responded with a grin and the man looked even more confused. Although, he left us alone after that, probably realizing he was dealing with two madmen. He was probably right too.
Mammon and I glanced at each other, quickly nodded and downed the shots like before. Another thirty shots later, I could feel the familiar buzz streaming down my whole being and a small smile played on my lips.
"Oh shit, I feel it." Mammon murmured and leaned back into the seat. Thankfully the bar stool had a short supporter otherwise he would've fallen flat on his butt.
"Same." I simply responded and let the feeling fully consume me. The moment my vision got blurry I knew that I was getting there. Mammon's face even softened a bit making him look more attractive than before. That was how I knew the alcohol did its job. I quickly banished these strange thoughts away. I genuinely didn't want anything like this ruining this night.
I called the bartender over for the third time and I could see him breathe out in annoyance. Just like before, I ordered the same thing and in the same amount. But this time I told him not to hurry because the previous alcohol was still taking its time to take on the full effect.
"Oh I know this song!" I yelled out, making Mammon flinch in his place. He looked almost uncomfortable being drunk. However, I could definitely sense that he was much more relaxed than before. "I HEAR THE DRUMS ECHOING TONIGHT~"
"Noooo, Asmo!" Mammon gasped after hearing the song. "Not that one!"
"BUT SHE HEARS ONLY WHISPERS OF SOME WILD CONVERSATION" But I couldn't hear him nor did I want to. I stood up from the seat and Mammon's eyes widened in shock.
"Don't do what I think you're going to do," Mammon protested weakly, but I ignored him, pulling him by the hand as I dragged him onto the dance floor.
As we joined the lively crowd, the pulsating beat of the music enveloped us, and I found myself screaming along with the lyrics, my worries melting away with each step. At first, Mammon seemed hesitant, his movements stiff as if unsure about the wisdom of following me, but soon he surrendered to the rhythm, allowing himself to be carried away by the music. To my surprise, he even seemed to know more songs than I had expected.
Amidst the swirling crowd, a girl with blonde hair and two buns on her head approached me with a wide grin. Her dark brown eyes sparkled with excitement as she took my hand, and we began to dance together. She stayed by my side, and I couldn't help but hope she didn't have a boyfriend—I wasn't in the mood for a physical altercation, even though I was confident I would win. Gradually, she closed the distance between us, her body pressing against mine, radiating desire that was almost palpable. While I found it flattering, the intensity of her desire was overwhelming. In an attempt to fulfill some of her wishes, I placed my hand on her neck and leaned in to kiss her.
She immediately accepted it and pulled me closer to her, wrapping her arms around my neck. My tongue slipped between her lips as I deepened the kiss. She moaned silently and just as things were getting heated, the song that was playing at that moment abruptly stopped. As it killed the mood almost instantly, I pulled away from her and looked towards the DJ booth.
"Oh no..." Mammon said as he stepped over towards me pulling me away from the girl. My gaze followed his one and I saw a very familiar mop of red hair next to the DJ. Almost instantly as our eyes locked, Loki said something to the man at the booth and the music resumed, the song being "Karma Chameleon." The crowd instantly started screaming from excitement at the music choice. He began descending from the DJ platform and I could see he was coming over to us.
"How did he know?!" Mammon shouted in my ear. And then it dawned on me. I reached out in my shirt and pulled out the chain Loki made for me. I showed it to him and quickly explained why I had it. He frowned, hitting me lightly on the back of the head.
"Ouch." I huffed and rubbed my head. The blonde girl was still trying to get my attention but I was now ignoring her completely. Eventually, she got the hint after I told her a few times to find someone else to bother. She didn't appear to like that as she grabbed a drink from someone nearby and splashed it in my face before storming off in a huff.
I blinked a few times in surprise but then wiped my face with my shirt sleeve.
"Well, hello, old friend," we soon found ourselves face to face with the familiar trickster. In the shifting lights of the club, his hair seemed to flicker with an almost fiery intensity.
"Hiii, Loki!" I said a bit awkwardly.
"You didn't care to send an invite?" Loki huffed mockingly as his eyes traced over to Mammon. "You're the guy who's helped before. Nice to see you again."
"Yeah, you too." Mammon cleared his throat, not exactly knowing how to react.
"Why did you come here?" I finally asked. "Is something wrong?"
Loki's expression darkened a bit but then he grinned, "not at all! I was just wondering what were you up to and then this thing around your neck told me you were having the time of your life. So I thought I should check it out." He made a little pause but didn't let anybody chime in."Now where are the shots?" He asked excitedly as he turned away and started going towards the bar.
I looked over at Mammon and our eyes locked, both of us showing clear confusion. There was definitely something wrong. Loki just didn't want to talk about it and it worried me.
"You stay here and have fun. I'm sorry, I have to deal with this." I told Mammon and was just about to leave before he said,
"Are you sure? You don't need my help?" His eyebrows furrowed as he tried to figure out how I actually felt. Naturally, I didn't let him see it. I was terrified for some reason but Loki was my issue.
"Yeah... I'm the reason he's here so I don't want to bother you with it." I explained but Mammon's stern face was back on. He knew too well I wasn't being genuine with him and irritated him.
"If there's any trouble, please call." He finally said and I nodded before I headed towards the bar Loki was now sitting at. I felt bad that our fun time had been cut short. I actually wanted to spend some more time with him as this was the only time I saw Mammon enjoying himself. And to be honest, I hadn't had this much fun in such a long time. I felt like my old self. But the apocalypse was calling...
"So, what's up?" I asked instantly as soon as I sat next to him. I noticed there were thirty shots on the bar and I kind of felt a sense of relief seeing them. Whatever was coming could be drowned out quickly.
I dragged them across the table over to Loki to make him spill the beans already. He was oddly quiet but he quickly started downing the shots.
"Things are bad..." Loki finally began, his eyes fixated on some spot in the distance. "Thor has been making a lot of trouble lately. He doesn't like the fact I'm up and about. He fears for the apocalypse but Odin says that destiny cannot be averted no matter what. If one intervenes with destiny, things can get a lot uglier. That in turn made Thor even angrier and we had another fight, where I had to beat him to a pulp again. I took some beating as well. And I don't know..." A lump slid down his throat as he looked at me with so much despair. "I don't know what to do anymore, Asmodeus. I tried to be fine with the whole apocalypse thing but I really don't know how to handle it. And then... I see you having the time of your life here. It hurts even more." He finally finished his speech while I was just staring at him dumbfounded. It was true I was the drunk one of the two but holy hell. I definitely didn't expect this. How do you comfort someone about the apocalypse?
"Drink up...." I mumbled as I gave him more shots.
"That's all you have to say?" He asked with an irritation in his voice.
"Look..." I breathed out, struggling to find the right words. I was so bad at these things. "Just make the best of it. I know it's fucked, we're all screwed. We can only make it count."
"I just feel so alone over there..." Loki mumbled, his eyes trying to find some sort of empathy from me. The empathy he was looking for was buried deep, with piles of hatred and resentment.
"Well, now you're here with us. It's not long until I have it figured out and you can come with me." I said as confidently as I could but his expression didn't change. I had never seen such a solemn expression on him. I didn't know what to do with it. He was usually the one who did the picking up.
"I guess what pissed me off the most is you having fun while I was suffering." Loki suddenly grumbled and took a few shots off the bar. I almost started laughing but I stopped myself in time. This man was truly unbelievable.
"I don't have a radar when you're in low moods!" I exclaimed and then patted him on the back. "Come on, it's almost over and you'll be in Hell with me making some havoc." I tried cheering him up and it worked a little. I saw that his face lightened up a bit but there was still deep grief within him. I hated that I could feel it.
"Hey, what's going on here?" Mammon suddenly appeared next to us, looking down grimly at Loki. Something was telling me he didn't trust the red haired trickster too much. We both looked up at him as he also took one shot from the table.
"It's all good, Mammon. You can join us though." I assured him. Loki was still very deep into his thoughts and so he didn't really say anything. I had never seen him go that long without talking.
Mammon took the note of the empty bar stool next to me and took a seat. At that moment, Loki sighed and straightened his back. He didn't want to seem vulnerable next to a stranger.
"How far have you two come along?" He suddenly asked.
"Well... we just have to enchant the ring for you to freely roam the Hell and..."I took a deep breath and scratched my head, "I gotta use my charms on Astaroth." I mumbled. The moment Loki heard that, laughter erupted from him and that's how I knew he was back to his old self. Even a little bit. For a second I thought he was only miserable because he didn't have me to mock over there.
"How so?" He asked through a laughter, unable to contain himself.
"He's responsible for the gate." I responded quickly. I downed a liquid from the glass, attempting to drown the embarrassment. Before Loki came along, I thought I was unable to feel such emotion. Loki simply nodded in response and surprisingly didn't proceed with mockery.
The three of us continued drinking until the sun started coming out and the bartender practically had to throw us out so he could close up. There were even less people on the street due to it being so early in the morning. All three of us were absolutely hammered. Mammon and I more so than Loki as he came much later. The trickster god kept mumbling something about how he wanted to smash Thor's skull into pieces. I didn't have a lot of energy to react as I was trying to keep myself standing while supporting myself on the wall of the club. I simply patted him on the shoulder, indicating that I understood but didn't have much to tell him.
After he was done rambling about Thor, the three of us decided to finally part ways. Loki and I hugged tightly as we said goodbye while Loki and Mammon simply shook hands.
"Take care, Loki! Don't miss me too much!" I exclaimed as I opened the portal.
"Same goes for you!" He laughed. We waved at each other before we all stepped through the portal and each of us were back into their rooms.
As soon as I was back, I slid down the wall and I just ended up zoning out, staring at no spot in particular. Loki's words were still ringing in my head. Was it all worth it? A sinking feeling took over my stomach as I rubbed the bridge of my nose. I can't give up now. I owed it to Lucifer at least and most of all, I owed it to myself.
Spite and pride rose up in me and in turn sobered me up a bit. I stood back up and with determination, I opened the door. I started making my way to my own office in the casino as I was sending out a telepathic message to Amon. I had no idea where he was and couldn't be bothered to search for him.
I took a seat at the desk as soon as I arrived at the back of the casino and waited patiently for him. I knew he was going to come within minutes as he had no options anymore. There was a very small part of me that made me feel sorry for doing this to him. However, at this point, I couldn't think about proper ways to reach my goal. Everything looked permissible.
Soon enough, there was a knock on the door and, true enough, Amon showed up in precisely ten minutes of waiting. He was a good pet.
"I assume you know why I called you up." I said when he came in. His blue eyes looked like they were piercing through me.
"When he's far enough from his office, inform me," I instructed sharply, ensuring that my intentions were clear and that Amon understood the gravity of the task at hand.
"Understood," Amon replied, his demeanor respectful as he nodded once more before leaving me alone with my thoughts.
As I sat in solitude, a heaviness settled over me, my mind consumed by thoughts of Pandora and the unimaginable fate that awaited her. Despite my attempts to suppress such thoughts, they persisted, gnawing at my conscience with relentless persistence. It was unfathomable that the Devil would subject anyone, let alone someone as innocent as Pandora, to such torment.
Taking a deep breath, I decided to start heading out of the office As I was making my way through the big hall, I noticed Beelzebub approaching from the periphery of my vision. Though my instinct was to avoid him, I reluctantly paused, granting him a moment of my time.
"Hey, Asmo..." Beelzebub spoke as he came near me. "Listen... I wanted to apologize about keeping that away from you. I didn't know you'd care." There was genuineness in his voice and the long-forgotten sympathy was starting to crawl back. If there was anyone I could give second chances to, it was him.
"If you're that sorry, come help me save Pandora." I said sourly, still not being able to fully relax around him.
"Where are we going?" He asked, confused.
"Just wait." I said as I still didn't get any messages from Amon. We were standing in the hall for a bit, neither of us uttering a word. It was quite awkward. There usually wasn't much tension between us. "Sorry about how I reacted..." I mumbled, feeling my own ego crying over me speaking that unholy word. "I just need my best friend back!" I confessed through a huff, avoiding looking at him.
Beelzebub started laughing and then pulled me for a short hug, patting me on the back. "Alright. Bygones bygones."
"I agree. I can't handle it anymore." I grumbled. At that moment, a high pitched noise reached my ears and I hissed a bit, making Beelzebub give me a questioning look. Amon had sent a message - the Devil was out. I smiled widely at the information.
"Let's go." I said enthusiastically. I could see that Beelzebub was still quite confused. However, I didn't want to spoil the surprise and the adventure.
We started climbing the stairs and I told him to hurry up so in the end we ended up sprinting all the way to the top of the palace. I hated the fact we couldn't just teleport into the Devil's room because of all the wards he put up. The doors of the office were already open so I had already seen that it was empty inside.
"What is going on?" Beelzebub asked, now actually worried.
"Don't worry." I reassured him and went up to the painting on the wall. "This right here..." I pointed at it. "It's a whole other realm."
"What?!" He exclaimed as he came closer to me. He reached out his hand and the painting already started slowly swirling. He pulled back his arm instantly and looked at me. "What is this?!"
"You just have to trust me on this." I said as confidently as I could.
He didn't. I could see it clearly in him but we were already so far in it. There was no turning back now. I reached out my hand now and the colors started wavering and spinning faster progressively. I grabbed him by the forearm so he didn't have a chance to run away. The air around us became heavier and we could already feel the strong pull the painting was emitting.
"Oh, you so owe me for this one!" Beelzebub yelled out and I started cackling. Soon, everything around us went black and in a few seconds, we dropped hard on our butts. I was holding onto Beelzebub so hard that I thought I almost tore his skin off. He proved me right by pulling his arm out of my grip and yelping.
The surroundings were still the same like they used to be the first time. There was a big forest and a pathway leading towards the tower. The star was shining as brightly as ever which assured me that Lucifer could still be kicking.
"Where the hell are we, Asmodeus?!" We stood up from the ground and he kept looking around the place.
"You're about to meet a legend!" I beamed in excitement and started rushing towards the tower. He instantly started following me, not wanting to be left behind - reasonably.
"A legend?!"
I turned my head towards him as I was walking and then grinned, "Abaddon."
In that instant, a clear surprise washed over Beelzebub's face. "What?" He finally lowered his tone.
"Yup, you'll see." I mused. We kept quiet until we were just a few feet away from the entrance of the tower. "You're also going to meet another legend." I said through almost a whisper in case Abaddon was listening in. Suddenly, a deep and hoarse voice reached our ears not so far away from us.
"So... you've brought company." And... there he was.
