No one's POV

BlazingSun, Scarredheart, and Shadowedmoon finally made the trip over the wide river and back to the forest. BlazingSun, after making sure her egg was secure in the nursery, went to the elders' den. Only elders and alphas could see the entrance.

Shadowedmoon told Scarredheart that she was going to go to bed early and leave the night patrol to him. Scarredheart agreed and went outside to meet up with the other shadows that were going on the night patrol.

Scarredheart's POV

I saw a group of shadow creatures out by the river. I guess they were the night patrol so I walked towards them. I almost jumped when I heard a loud hiss from below me.

I looked down and saw an albino snake glaring at me. I gave a nervous chuckle and said sorry to the snake before running to the group. I was still a little jumpy from the "punishment" but I tried not to show it. To my surprise, the snake joined our patrol.

'It must be a shadow creature too.' I thought.

An orange coyote, with small yellow stripes, stepped in front of the group.

"All right, team! We got a new member for the hunt tonight! The one and only, alpha-in-training, Scarredheart!" The coyote said and dramatically pointed at me. I almost sunk into the ground. I hate being called out like this. I'm not a newbie at patrolling but, I usually patrol alone.

"Leave the kid alone, Flame!" A big white hawk with red dots smacked the coyote, known as Flame, on the back of his head.

"I remember your first patrol and hunt. You couldn't even catch a mouse if it stood still for you!" The hawk and the rest of the patrol laughed.

"I was a pup! Whatever, Redsnow. Let's get going. Bluegrass! You take care of the newbie." Flame stalked off from the patrol and everyone followed.

A white and blue dotted deer stepped by side. I had to tilt my head up to look her in eyes.

"I am Bluegrass. I'll be your mentor for today, young one." She said to me. I saw her look behind me and smile.

"Hey I want to help, too! I wanna see what Shadowedmoon has been teaching this pipsqueak." I looked behind me and saw another deer that looked exactly like Bluegrass but with red dots.

"Hello, Redsnow. Nice of you to join us." Bluegrass said and walked over to the other deer. As they talked a question popped into my mind.

"Are you guys twins?" I asked them.

"Luckily no. But we are mates. And no, we don't know why we look alike." Redsnow said with a smirk. "Now come on. We have to catch up with the patrol." Redsnow said and ran off to catch up with the patrol.

As Bluegrass and I trotted after them. I looked to Bluegrass as we walked.

"Wasn't Redsnow a hawk?" I asked her. She just chuckled and trotted after the patrol with me following.

I jumped out of the bushes and pinned a fat rabbit to the ground. It squirmed until I pressed down with my paw. I heard its bones crack and break.

"I forgot you're not used to using those claws to kill." Redsnow said behind me. She was back in her hawk form.

I shrugged in agreement. My leopard form was lean, quick, and light on its paws. But in my human form I had a heavier sense of gravity and I used a spear to kill.

I picked the rabbit up in my jaws and followed Redsnow, who had caught a rat, and Bluegrass, who had instead found some herbs. We met back up with the group. The snake had caught a bird and Flame had caught a mole. The rest of the group had mice and small birds. After a quick head count, we headed back for the camp.

As soon as we walked back into the camp, the albino snake took its kill to where the reptiles usually hang out at. I took my kill and walked back to the den Shadowedmoon and I stayed in. When I reached the den I saw that she was gone. I laid my prey down in a hidden spot and went to my nest.

I laid down on my nest but got bored quickly. I got up and went to a hidden tunnel that led deeper into the cave. Shadowedmoon said I wasn't allowed to go in there but I was so curious. I slowly stepped into the tunnel. I was expecting some kind of trap or something that Moon had made to keep me out. But as I walked into the tunnel, I found nothing.

With more confidence I bounded into the hidden part of the cave, only too be stopped by Shadowedmoon. She didn't say a word. Instead she picked me up by the scruff of my neck and carried me out of the tunnel. She only did this when I was really hurt or in a lot of trouble. Long story short, I was scared.

As she carried me out of the tunnel, I got a tiny peek into cave at the end of the tunnel. Inside, I saw markings on a wall. The markings showed a dragon. But half of the dragon's face was replaced with half of a wolf's face.

I wanted to ask Moon about it but, right now seemed like a bad time.
