trois ¦ ¦ save the bees
>>>>
dodie enters the grocery shop and gets herself a shopping cart before she roams the multiple aisles.
even though she is inside now and the shop is very cold, she can still feel the hot sun on her exposed legs.
she slowly moved along the rows of countless items, taking her time to scan everything. there is just way too much to choose from.
she puts a few things in like bread, juice and eggs before moving on to the frozen food section.
there were a lot of people inside the shop and dodie was getting a bit light-headed because of it.
she grabbed a few more things before moving on and pushing the cart into the fruit and vegetable section.
there, she looks on the floor in order not to accidentally steer the cart into someone's heels.
she pauses to grab a few veggies and fruits and slightly bends over to place them into the cart instead of throwing them in like she did with a few of the items she is going to buy.
as she puts some peaches and lemons and avocadoes in it, she still pushes the cart forward slowly but without looking and without intent bumps into someone with the cart.
she immediately looks up, and is about to apologise, but she has to adjust her glasses beforehand as they went down to the brim of her nose.
"i'm so sorry!" she says and meets the person's eyes.
the young man's ankle hurts but he doesn't show that it does and brushes the apology off.
but dodie won't let it slide, she musters him with interest and notices that he is holding a sign that says " no bees, no life, save the hive ".
"i am really sorry." dodie says once again.
"no problem." he brushes her off.
"so, bees, huh?" dodie asks, arching up one of her brows, and a wide smile makes its way onto his face.
"yes, uh.. would you mind signing this form?" the young man stutters. dodie tilts her head, looking down at the clipboard he handed her. she quickly takes in the information written on there and willingly writes down her name, phone number and email address on the petition form before handing the board back to him.
"thank you." he says.
"no problem,-"
"jon." he says, extending his free hand to shake hers.
"dodie." she says, their eyes meeting for a brief moment.
jon mentions her accent and dodie explains that she is only staying for the summer and soon enough, they have established the beginning of a friendly bond over small-talk in the middle of what feels like a hundred shopping carts being pushed and pulled right next to them.
"so, dodie, you wanna talk about the bees?"
"sure, tell me, i've got some time on my hands."
and so jon does. and he does it with so much meaning in his voice that dodie forgets the time.
but it is only a matter of minutes as soon enough, a staff comes up to jon and escorts him outside, interrupting their conversation.
jon throws up his hands and follows the gentleman escorting him, his yellow-black striped shirt still visible as he stands outside the store and dodie shakes her head slowly. she thought jon was somehow a bit weird but she wasn't yet sure if it was a good kind of weird- guess she will never find out, he must be off the premises by now.
dodie takes a quick glance at her watch and decides to hurry up, packing the last few groceries she deems necessary into her cart and checking out at the cash register.
-
now, two plastic bags in her hands, dodie stands outside again and tries to remember which direction she came from.
she then goes on to the way back to evan's flat but as soon as she turns left to go down the street, jon stands there, making her jump slightly.
"hi!" he says.
"hi." dodie greets back.
"so rude, being interrupted. i am sorry about that." he says and dodie catches herself giggling.
dodie shakes her head once again, "don't be!"
"i just wanted to say a proper bye- and, uh.. maybe you could give me a call if you ever find yourself wanting to learn more about how you can save the bees or if you need someone to take on a city tour with- i think i would make a pretty decent tour guide, just saying or i mean, if you'd like to get a discount on records...? hmm.. so, yeah, here's my number." he stutters quickly, handing her a piece of torn-off paper with a few numbers scribbled on it.
"sure, i will!" dodie smiles, holding up the paper in the air before putting it into one of her grocery bags. "have a nice day, jon."
"you, too, dodie." he waves, fearing that he already is too fond of her, and turns into the opposite direction than her.
