I was fascinated seeing the guy with washboard abs coming from the seashore with his surfboard stuck on his arm. I was sure nobody will notice me because I was just leaning my back on the rock not too far from the shore until a huge wave came to me. I coughed and spat the salt water which slapped my face.

Just then, I heard a chuckle from near me and I almost gasp seeing how close Carlos was. He was more than a meter away from me earlier and now, it appears to be I have gotten everyone's attention as their eyes were feasted on us.

I met Carlos' blue orbs and he grinned. He was paddling as he went towards my side.

"What are you doing out here, Flo?", he asked with a look of amusement in his eyes. His hair was already wet from the water and it was getting harder for me to breathe because of how close we are.

"Just e-enjoying the waters." I trembled as I suddenly felt the coldness of the water. I felt my face warmed up as my eyes seemed to always focus on his chest.

I wanted to scold myself because I couldn't seem to give my attention to his eyes.

"Eyes up here, baby." Carlos snorted and I gulped and looked at him again.

"I-I was!" I managed to shot back and scoffed at him. "I was just feeling the ground on my toes," I reasoned out.

Why am I even stuttering in front of him?

"Come on, Flo! Let's learn how to surf!" Miyuki distracted my thoughts as I saw her paddling on her pink surfboard with Alf and Nappy on their respective black and blue surfboards. Suddenly, I felt envious.

"You guys know how to surf?" I asked bewildered. Miyuki shook her head just as Nappy did.

"Carlos said he will teach us so we eagerly grabbed our own. C'mon! There are still plenty of surfboards left at the shore!" Nappy answered in excitement, not caring as the waves splashed on his face. In fact, he was actually happy about it.

"C'mon. You don't want to miss out all the fun, right?" Carlos turned to face me with an encouraging smile.

I began to smile too and said, "teach us, alright? I want to learn how to."

"Yes, Ma'am!" Carlos nodded and he even saluted me as if I was the boss.

Me and our squad plus Carlos swam to the shore as he began to instruct us on the basics of surfing. With our surfboards on our grasps, he began, "alright, guys. Before we start riding with the waves, you must all learn the basics. And those are: lying and balancing, paddling and catching waves, learning to stand up, have your own surfboard, riding a wave, turning the board and understanding the waves."

"Ouch. My head suddenly hurts with those information." Nappy complained while we laughed at him. Alfredo was quietly listening beside Miyuki who was all hyped up to do it. Carlos just chuckled.

"Shall we begin?" Carlos asked and we all nodded.

Soon, we were on our surfboards, lying and paddling on the sand with a crawl stroke and then gradually standing up as if we try to catch a wave and balanced ourselves. We recapped again and when we felt like we were ready, Carlos led our way to the beach.

It was already past four in the afternoon and we were already feeling the waters. It was just perfect as we were all anticipating the sunset.

As we paddled to meet the waves, I heard Carlos shouted at us, "Our friendly waves are coming, brace yourselves, guys! Learn to stand if you can!"

I took a deep breath as I watched a wave come onto us. I was paddling using a crawl stroke which Carlos had taught us with one arm first and then the other, alternating between both arms at a steady pace.

As the wave came nearer, I struggled to stand up with my palms down as if I was doing a push-up. And then, I lifted my shoulders up until I felt my arms being straightened.

I watched in horror as the wave engulfed me and my knees started to wobble beneath me and I crashed into the sea. I screamed as I fell into the water.

I heard Carlos and the others calling for me and I suddenly pulled out of the water for air and coughed the saltwater out.

"Man! That was neat! You were almost standing!" Alfredo yelled while grinning at me.

They paddled closer to me and Carlos pulled me out of the water and onto my surfboard.

"You were amazing back there! But you should have kept it low and shouldn't pushed yourself too hard. You could be hurt by that." Carlos said and he tucked a loose strand of my wet hair underneath my ears.

The next thing I knew silence had consumed us. We realized that it was almost sunset and all the people at the beach were mesmerized by the beautiful sunset.

We turned our heads to our right as the sun perfectly sets and the sky has changed into orange. It was such a magical view and I was at loss for words.

I have never seen a sunset this close. It sent me shivers yet I felt a warm happy glow seeing how carefree things can be.

"This is breathtaking!" I mumbled in amazement as my eyes were fixated on the sun. I was lying face down on my surfboard with Carlos beside me.

"Yes, it is." Carlos said almost in a whisper and I felt his breath fanning my neck.

It was only then that I realized how close he was beside me. I turned to face him and almost gasp at his nearness. He was only inches away from me!

"It certainly is breathtaking." With that said, Carlos leaned into me and soon, our lips met and I was both in surprise and ecstasy as we shared our first kiss on the sea under the sunset.
