Chapter 15
Bitter Farewells, and Dinner Nights
Rosemary felt tears brimmed the lower parts of her hazel eyes, as she cried bitterly over Jacob.
They have reached the top of steps, as Jacob stands and gazes into the rain. Queenie reached out and grabs his coat, willing him not to move.
Jacob turns to Queenie. "Hey. Hey this is for the best." He whispered, as he tried so hard to comfort them. Rosemary couldn't fight back the tears.
"Yeah - I was - I was never even supposed to be here." Queenie gazes up at him, her face filled with distress. Tina had a forlorn gaze in her eyes, and Newt looked incredibly sad. Rosemary bit her lip, in depression.
"I was never supposed to know any of this. Everybody knows Newt only kept me around because - hey - Newt, why did you keep me around?"
A pause, before Newt spoke. "Because I like you. Because you're my friend and I'll never forget how you helped me."
Rosemary nodded in agreement. "You're one of us, now." She said, as bitter tears slid down her pale cheeks, and her hair was like a bird's nest.
Jacob is overcome with emotion by what Newt told him. "Oh!" He said, as Queenie moved forward up the stairs and towards Jacob, as they stand close.
"Please, Jacob. I'll come with you. We'll go somewhere - we'll go anywhere - see I ain't never gonna find anyone like -" Queenie tried to cheer him up, but Jacob interrupted.
"There's loads like me." He spoke, with bravery in his voice. Rosemary knew it was hard to let go of the woman you love, same goes with Rosemary.
"No... No... There's only one like you."
The silence was mixed with pain, and Rosemary couldn't hear it. She enjoyed Jacob's company while it lasted. She enjoyed his sudden giggles that cheered her up, and the small talks he gave.
There was a pause, silence falling over them quietly, as they let themselves taste the bitterness in the air.
"I... I gotta go." Jacob said, as he turns to face the Obliviating rain. Rosemary couldn't help the tears any longer.
"JACOB!" Newt shouted, as he started after him, but Jacob tried to give Newt an earnest smile.
"It's okay... It's okay... It's okay. It's just like waking up, right?" Jacob tried.
The group smiles at him, as they tried to soothe the situation. Rosemary also gave a smile, to cheer up the mood.
"Yeah.. It'll be." Rosemary whispered, as Jacob turned to her, and smiled. He leaned closer to her and whispered something to her ear.
"Take care of Newt, for me, okay?" was what he said, before he pulled away. Rosemary nodded in sadness, as she flashed a forlorn smile at Jacob.
Jacob looks at their faces, as he slowly moves backward and into the rain. He then allows the water to wash over him completely, and Obliviate him.
Queenie sniffs, as she creates a magical umbrella with her wand and steps out towards Jacob. She moves in closely, and tenderly, as she strokes his face, before closing her eyes and bending down to gently kiss him.
She finally pulls away slowly, her gaze not leaving Jacob, and she goes back to Newt, Tina, and Rosemary, and together, they Disapparated, leaving Jacob with his wiped memory.
Jacob finally wakes up, as he stares blankly, as confusion filled his mind. He finally moves off through the streets, alone yet again.
•~•
Newt decided to surprise Jacob, with some kind of tricky way. Rosemary immediately complied to his plan.
An exhausted Jacob, was turning to leave after a hard day's shift in the canning factory. He held his battered leather suitcase, just like Newt's.
Rosemary watched as Newt strides past Jacob. "Sorry - so sorry." He apologizes, as well as dropping a case. So far the plan worked perfectly.
Newt moved swiftly and purposely onwards, without a second glance. Rosemary grinned.
"Hey!" Jacob said with no recognition, as Rosemary saw him bend to pick his case and looks down, puzzled. Rosemary smiled.
One of the catches flicks open of its own accord. Jacob smiles a little, and bends down to open the case.
Rosemary saw him look at the case, as she felt Newt's arms embrace her waist and she felt her lips tug in a smile.

Newt decided to stay in a hotel for a night, before he left for England. He then invited Rosemary to a dinner.
Queenie and Tina both decided to go shop with Rosemary, for her dress, and for Queenie's wardrobe personally.
"Why not yours? Rosemary asked Tina, who just shrugged. "I'm not particular with clothing." She answers.
Queenie offered Rosemary different choices, including a white gossamer dress, with a gold belt. But none of it appealed to Rosemary's delight.
Rosemary walked at some aisles, as she decided to look around by herself. Maybe she just need a time out, maybe she just needs to breathe.
"Probably." She murmured, as she tucked a strand of her brown hair behind her ear.
The dinner was scheduled around 7:30 in the evening, and it was 3:00 in the afternoon. Rosemary knew she had to choose quickly.
At the corner of her eye, she saw a periwinkle laced dress that reaches until her knees. She slowly got it from the rack, as she examined it.
It looked nice, not too shabby. She checked the price, as she thought of how much it might cost.
$1750. It was beyond her budget, and anyways, she figured that she needed money since her father is dead - I mean, in jail. Rosemary began to place it back in the rack.
"I'll buy that for you." Rosemary whirled to hear Tina, who was smiling at her. Her eyes widened.
"No! It's okay - I mean, I know it's pretty and all, but -" Rosemary started to protest but Tina got it from the rack.
"Come on, I'll buy it. And who knows? It's your first proper date with Newt." She smiled playfully, and Rosemary knew what she meant and thanked her silently through her eyes.
•~•
Queenie tugged the dark brown hair of Rosemary. "Ow." Rosemary occasionally reacted, when Queenie pulled a bit hard.
"Sorry." Queenie giggled an apology, as she went back to "glossing" her hair. Tina smiled at Rosemary, who also returned the look.
"Look at the mirror, Rose." Queenie said excitedly, as she handed Rosemary a vanity mirror. Rosemary's jaw almost opened in awe, at the beautiful face of a girl staring back at her.
"Woah." Rosemary's hair was in a French braid, as it had volume in its scalp. There were fine braids lining down her hair, as Rosemary fingered them with wonder in her eyes.
"Thank... You." Rosemary whispered, as Queenie smiled and hugged her, and pulled away quickly.
"Now, let's try the dress, shall we?"
•~•
The corset was tight, to give Rosemary some shape, according to Queenie. Rosemary found it a bit more difficult to breathe, but managed.
She breathed in wonder, as she stared at her reflection. Rosemary remembered that Alex once said that even without makeup or a good dress on, Rosemary always looked stunning.
Her eyes stung, as she fondly remembered of her best friend. Rosemary wondered how he was doing right now, assuming he isn't heartbroken or anything.
Hopefully not.
"Rosemary? Did anyone tell you that you are so photogenic?" Queenie giggled, as Rosemary's lips tugged in a small smile.
"Now, let's go to your dinner date." Tina said, as she grabbed her coat. "Come on, Rosemary. We don't want Mr. Scamander to wait." She says.
•~•
Rosemary awkwardly entered the restaurant, as a slight breeze of wind hit her bare thighs. She wasn't used to this much skin, since she always used pants and t-shirt, and a jacket or coat.
Her eyes searched the room, as Tina nudged her elbow slightly, and Rosemary followed Tina's gaze.
Newt stood there, looking nervous and awkward, his ill-fitting suit making him look handsome, but still adorable.
He saw her, and shivers curled up on Rosemary's spine, as he gave her an awkward yet affectionate smile.
"There he is, go to him." Tina whispered and nudged Rosemary, who at first hesitated, but trudged on.
Newt cocked his head, as Rosemary walked to him, as she smoothed the hem of her dress. He held his hand out to Rosemary. "M'lady." He mockingly bowed playfully.
Rosemary decided to play along. "Thank you, Monsieur." She bowed, and made a mental note to thank her French classes and lessons later.
He smiled at her, as Rosemary awkwardly took a seat. There was faint music playing the background. "So..."
Newt opened his mouth to speak, when a waiter approached their table. "Hello, I am Brendon, your server for the night. Would you like to try tonight's specials?" He asked, with a smile.
Newt looked at the waiter and looked at Rosemary. "You want?" He asked, as Rosemary shrugged. "What are the specials tonight?" She asked the waiter.
Brendon flipped open the menu, as he pointed to a delicious-looking dish. "For tonight, it'll be ribeye steak, which will be seared slightly, and has a side of either mashed potatoes or herb butter rice." He read, as he looked at them. "So will it be those?"
A pause, before Newt decided. "Yes, we'll take that, as for the side.." He turned to Rosemary. "What side dish would you like?" He asked her.
"I guess I'll go for the herb butter rice. And could you make it medium well?" She requested, as the waiter nodded and took note of what Rosemary said. "How about you, mister?"
"I'll have the buttermilk chicken breast." He said, as he closed the menu, and the waiter nodded. "Nice choice."
Rosemary nodded, after Brendon repeated their orders. "Will that be all?" He asked. Newt and Rosemary both nodded in unison.
He then left, as Newt brushed the hands of Rosemary, who blushed in awkwardness and delight.
Newt reached to brush the hair that covered the hazel eyes of Rosemary. "There. That's better." He smiled, which made Rosemary blushed even more. Newt chuckled and stared at her eyes intently.
"Rosemary. I... I wanted to ask you. Do you.. Do you remember what happened?" Upon seeing Rosemary's expression, he sighed. "The night of the werewolf attack." He murmured softly.
Rosemary recalled the night she dreamt of it, and nodded slightly. Newt looked at her eyes.
"I'm... Sorry for Obliviating them. I didn't mean to. I knew it was your last year there, and... I didn't mean.." Newt's voice cracked and wavered, as Rosemary panicked.
"No, no, Newt. It's okay. I don't even need..." She paused for a moment. "I don't need to remember the old me."
Newt stared at her in disbelief. "I mean, it's not that I want to forget you or anything..," Rosemary started to say.
"It's just that - I realize - I don't need anything valuable from my past.." Rosemary gazed up at Newt's brilliant blue eyes. "Because all I need now, with my "supposedly" father now gone, all I need now is you.., and you alone."
Newt smiled at her sadly. "Rosemary, you know that I also wish to stay, but -" He started, but Rosemary just shook her head. "You don't need to explain, Mr. Scamander." Her voice sounded cold and angry.
Newt looked dumbfounded at her sudden tone, and Rosemary realized her mistake. "Sorry.. Sorry.." She whispered in a terrified tone. Oh, what has Rosemary done?
In a panicked way, she briskly stood up from her seat, as she squeezed her way out of the restaurant, as she felt tears filling her vision.
The night was cold and windy, as Rosemary ran across the dark streets. She was stressed, depressed, and she felt bitter and broken.
"Rosemary! Rosemary!" She heard the faint shouts and footsteps of Newt, as Rosemary hurriedly hid quietly.
"Rosemary..?" She heard Newt breathe quietly, and it struck sudden grief to Rosemary's chest, as she got out slowly from where she hid. "Newt.."
His face looked upset, as his copper locks of hair was disheveled in distress. "Rosemary.., Rosemary. It's okay."
She ran to his chest as he stroked her hair gently. "I'm so sorry, Newt. I love you." Rosemary murmured softly, as her chest heaved slightly.
Newt nodded in comfort. "It's okay, Rosemary. I will never let you go. I really wish I could stay." He admitted through her ears, as Rosemary nodded.
Newt picked her up, bridal-style, as he walked her to his hotel.
•~•
Newt burst the hotel door open, and the two exhausted lovers came in, as Rosemary looked awfully tired.
Newt offered to let her stay in his room for the night, as Rosemary knew that she wasn't welcomed that much yet in MACUSA, for her parentage.
"You get the bed, I'll take the couch." He offered, as Rosemary prepared to go to bed, but she shook her head. "No, stay with me." She whispered.
Newt looked confused at first, but just shrugged and nodded. Rosemary shivered under the covers, as Newt went on the bed.
"Newt?" He looked at her hazel eyes.
"Yes, Rosemary?"
"I love you." She yawned, as Newt pulled her closer to his chest, and Rosemary could inhale the scent of her only love in her life.
Newt paused. "I love you, too. Goodnight." He said, but Rosemary already closed her eyes as she drifted off to sleep.
•~•
The next day, they took the cab to the docks, as Rosemary knew it was the final goodbye.
Newt fixed his Hufflepuff scarf around his neck, as Rosemary wore a fuzzy coat that Newt lent her to keep her warm, as for the moment.
Tina was waiting for them in the docks, as Rosemary walked side by side with Newt's hand intertwined with hers.
"You ready to leave?" Tina asked Newt, as Newt looked over to the boat that he going to board on, and nodded.
"Yes."
Rosemary smiled at him sadly, as she was ready to let him go, after all the things they have done with each one.
"Mr. Scamander - I would like to thank you. If you haven't said all those nice things to Madam Picquery, I wouldn't be back at the investigation team." Tina thanked him gratefully, as Newt smiled at her earnestly.
"No problem. I wouldn't want anyone else to be investigating on me, aside from you and Rosemary." He winked and joked, as Rosemary laughed.
The sound of the boat signaled Newt, as he turned to them. "I gotta go, soon." He told them quickly, as they nodded.
"Please don't get investigated, at least, Newt." Tina said, as Newt smiled. "Yeah. Quiet life for me in the Ministry. I'll submit my manuscript and maybe, they'll accept it." He promised her.
Rosemary nodded. "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. I'll take a note of that." She said, with a smile.
Newt nodded. "I'll send you both a copy once I get it published." He promised, as he looked at Rosemary. "Now I gotta go on board." He said.
Rosemary ran to his chest and hugged him fiercely. "Newt.., I'll surely miss you. I love you, very much. Please don't move on with me." She whispered, as she felt Newt nod. "Of course."
He pulled away, as Newt gave her a kiss on the lips. "I love you, Rosemary. Please don't let go of me. I was made for loving you." He smiled sadly, and it almost caused pain to Rosemary's heart. It hurts to let go.
He went to leave, as Tina and her moved backwards, as they turned to leave the docks.
"Wait!" Rosemary turned to see Newt running back to them.
"Erm, how would you like it if I gave the copy to you in person." He asked, awkwardly. Rosemary and Tina both laughed in delight and surprise.
"I'll like that - very much." Tina smiled, as Rosemary nodded. "I'll be waiting, Mr. Newt Scamander." She said.
He smiled at her, and walked up to the boat, and without a second glance, Rosemary and Tina turned to leave.
