Chapter 14

Chapter 14
....Goodbye?

Rosemary stared blankly. Grindelwald is her father. The dark wizard that the MACUSA has been hunting for ages..

He's her father.

Rosemary stumbled back, as Newt caught her gently. Grindelwald flashed a devious grin at her.

"What makes you think you can hold me?" He said with contempt in his voice, as Madam Picquery walked in front of Rosemary.

"We'll do our best, Mr. Grindelwald." She said with a stern voice, as the Aurors escorted Grindelwald away.

Rosemary blinked, as she was still dazed. She just could believe it. A dark wizard as her father? NO!

Newt had the adorable concerned look on his face, as his forehead creased with wrinkles, and his eyebrows furrowed in worry. "Are you fine?"

"I'm.. Okay." Rosemary said with an airy voice. In fact, she actually wasn't okay. She wasn't very sure if she's still sane or not. Rosemary wondered.

"I don't believe you." Newt stared at her, as Rosemary sighed in defeat. "Fine, I'm not fine." She said, with an obvious sigh in her voice.

As Grindelwald was being escorted, he looked to his side at Newt, as he sneered and smiled at him.

"Will we die, just a little?"

He is then led away, after Rosemary looked away, and Newt watches him, with a bemused expression.

Suddenly, Queenie and Jacob arrived, as they pushed their way through the front of the Aurors. Jacob then holds up Newt's case.

Queenie hugs Tina in relief, as Newt stared blankly at Jacob. "Hey... I figured somebody oughta keep an eye on this thing." Jacob said, as he handed Newt his case.

Newt, looking grateful. "Thank you." He says with a humble attitude, as Rosemary smiles at Jacob, then turns to Newt, with a grin.

Madam Picquery then stares through the broken roof of the subway.

"We owe you an apology, Mr. Scamander. But the magical community is exposed! We cannot Obliviate an entire city." She addressed to the crowd, and to Newt personally.

This sinks in, as Rosemary turned to Newt. She was sure that he had an idea.., 'cause Newt always have ideas.

Newt then follows the president's gaze, and sees a tendril of black matter, a residue of the Obscurus, floating down slowly through the roof.

Unnoticed by anyone, it eventually floats up and away, and tries to reconnect with its host.

There was a pause, before Newt spoke up beside Rosemary, as his attention snaps back at the problem at hand.

"Actually, I think we can." Newt says with a smile, and Rosemary knew what he was going to do, and grinned back.

•~•

Newt placed his case down, wide open underneath the large hole present in the subway roof.

Rosemary watched in silence, a beat or two passed, before she saw the unexpected and laughed.

Suddenly, Frank bursts forth in a flurry of feathers and gushes of wind - the crowd of Aurors then backed away.

Rosemary gawked at it in awe. Although she may have already seen this creature, it still makes her feel mesmerized by its beauty.

Newt moves forward, as he examined Frank. Rosemary watched him as he had a look of tenderness and pride filling his face.

"I was intending to wait until we got to Arizona," Newt paused for a moment, looking at the president. "But it seems like you are our only hope, Frank."

They had a look of understanding on their face, as Newt reaches out his arm, and Frank nuzzles it lovingly. Rosemary couldn't help the tears falling down in her cheeks.

The group of Aurors watched them in wonder and awe, as the two of them showed affection to one another.

Who says wizards and witches can't be with creatures and beasts?

"I'll miss you, too." Newt murmurs as he slowly takes a step back, as he grabs the flask of the Swooping Evil venom, that they got from what it seems like a long time ago, from his pockets.

"You know what you've got to do, Frank." Newt told him, and throws the vial up in the air.

Frank lets out a sharp cry, and snatches it with its beak and soars out of the subway roof. Rosemary, filled with curiosity, climbed up the rubble and looked at the city.

Both No-Majs and Aurors shriek and recoil as Rosemary saw Frank gliding into the dawn-lit sky. She smiles to herself, as she feels arms embrace her.

She knew that it was Newt, and leaned to his chest affectionately.

Frank rose higher and higher into the air, as his wings flap harder and faster. Storms were brewing quickly, and lightning flashes. Rosemary knew it was time to take cover, so she and Newt went back down and watched from below the subway.

Rosemary saw the hint of venom spreading in the sky, and she knew that Newt's idea worked perfectly.

"Newt! Your idea was -" She turned back to speak, when Newt's lips met hers, as he held her closer to his chest.

She heard the faint ahhh's and awwww's in the background as Newt didn't stop, so did not Rosemary.

Newt slowly pulled away, as Rosemary stared at him, as she remembered that that may be their final kiss.

Their goodbye.

Before Rosemary could speak, Newt turned to address the Aurors. "They won't remember anything. That venom has incredibly powerful Obliviative properties." He promised.

Madam Picquery looked impressed. "We owe you a great debt, Mr. Scamander. Now - get that case out of New York." She ordered.

Newt gave her an amused smile, and replied. "Yes, Madam President."

Rosemary then turned to Newt. "No. No. No. Please don't. Please don't leave me. No, Newt." She pleaded him, as the urge of wanting him to stay became bigger, but Newt just gave her a sad and sympathetic look as he shook his head no.

Rosemary's lips curled into a sad face, as she ran to hug Newt really, really tight. "I became, a whole new person, just because.., of you." She sobbed through her words, as Newt held her tight, and brushed her hair through his own fingers.

"It's okay, Rosemary. I love you, and that is my final choice."

Madam Picquery smiled at the two of them, and began to walk away. She suddenly turns back.

"Is that No-Maj still here?" She asked, as she spotted Jacob. "Obliviate him. There can be no exceptions." She orders as she sees the anguish in their faces and eyes.

"I'm sorry - but even one witness... You know the law." She says, as she is obviously uncomfortable with their distress.

"I'll let you say goodbye." She says, and she finally leaves. Leaving the group of friends together.

"Shall we?" Rosemary asked them, and leads the way out of the subway tunnel.

Done! I have a feeling that the next chapter will really be the last, I didn't realize that this chapter'll end like this, but fate has its own twists, right? So... I guess I'll update the last chapter tomorrow, and I'll officially start the book Reincarnation. Please read that one, too!
