Chapter 4

Chapter 4:

“Wait, Shadow, I thought your mom was dead?” Echo asked as she glanced at me, “That’s what I thought to, but when a target is dead then the word ‘Assassinated’ Would be there,” I pointed to her file, “But it isn’t so that means she isn’t dead.” I added, Echo looked at the screen and nodded, “Okay, but where do we find her?” She asked, looking back at me, I then looked back at Ezra, “How well can your computer track?” I asked, she leaned against the wall and crossed her arms, “Top of the line tracking, it can even track the dead, but if you’re going to track your mom with it, it’s gonna take a few days for it to pinpoint her location.” She explained, she then looked at me, “I can even get my guys to keep a look out for her.” She added, which caused me to raise my brow, “Guys?” I asked as I crossed my arms, “What? You didn’t think you was the only one with a clan.” She smirked as she pulled her phone out and walked out of the room, I blinked a few times before looking over at Echo, who only shrugged her shoulders and turned back to the computer. I came up with a plan and grinned as I walked over to Echo, “Come on,” I reached over and turned the computer off, “Hey! What was that for?” She whipped her head in my direction and glared. “Let’s go.” I said as I grabbed her arm and dragged her with me towards the door.

We stood in a field in Central Park, snow slowly fell around us as it covered the ground in a thick white blanket, Echo looked around and wrapped her arms around her chest, “Shadow, what are we doing out here? It’s freezing!” She complained as she shivered, “Well,” I started as I pulled out some knuckle wraps, “I’m teaching you how to fight,” I continued as I tossed some of the knuckle wraps towards her. She caught the wraps and shot me a weird look, “Shadow, you know I’m hopeless in hand to hand combat, that’s why I’m a Tech Ninja,” She grumbled, I rolled my eyes as I wrapped the knuckle wrap around my knuckles, “Well, I’m gonna lunge at you so you either block it or get hit.” I commented as I looked at her, She sighed, I grinned as I lunged at her.

I grunted as I slammed onto the ground and Echo twisted my arm into a armlock, it’s been two weeks of nothing but hard training and she definitely got better, she released my arm as I slowly stood up, “Great job,” I commented as I held my arm, she grinned proudly, “Great? That was awesome! I totally kicked your butt.” She stated as she unwrapped her knuckles, I rolled my eyes and froze, glancing around, “What’s wrong?” Echo asked as she walked over to me, “Sh,” I told her as I listened, “Move!” I gripped her shirt and pulled her to the ground just as an arrow whizzed past me, I fell on top of her, we both looked at each other, she instantly blushed, “Um, well this is awkward.” She commented, I rolled my eyes as I got to my feet, “Let’s go.” I grabbed her hand and pulled her up then pulled her towards an alley. Just as we got to the alley, two ninja landed in front of us, “Shadow, you are surrounded, surrender now.” He ordered as he pulled out his sword, “Echo, start climbing, now!” I yelled as I slammed a smoke bomb down, a fog of grey smoke instantly covered the alleyway. I followed after Echo up the side of the building, once the fog cleared the Ninja’s spotted us just as we neared the top. One of the ninja pulled out his bow and fired an arrow, it landed right on the edge of the building and exploded, causing the side of the building to crumble, “Shit.” I pushed off the side and jumped up, reaching my arm out, Echo’s hand gripped mine as she pulled me up. I pulled myself to my feet, “We got to k-” Words were quickly cut off as a rope wrapped around my throat and pulled me down, “Shadow!” Echo yelled as I fell, I slammed against the wall then onto a dumpster, I groaned as I rolled off and landed on the ground with a thud. “You should’ve never betrayed us,” The Ninja commented as they walked towards me, “You should’ve never come alone.” Once they got a few meters from me I slammed a piece of broken glass into his leg, he screamed in agony, I flipped around and wrapped the rope around his throat. I placed my legs against his back and pulled on the rope, the Ninja struggled as he tried to fight for breath, I pulled harder until I heard a snap then the body went limp against my feet, The other Ninja lunged but I pushed the body off and it landed against him, causing him to fall backwards, I quickly got to my feet, “Send word to your master. I’m coming for him,” I growled as I grabbed the rope and started climbing back up the building. “Echo, we have to k-” Her screams cut my words off, I looked up and saw two Ninja holding a blade to her throat, I growled as I start to run towards them but a figure stood in front of me, “Not so fast, brother.” Delta smirked as he pulled his mask down, I growled as I stopped in my tracks, “Let her go, Delta.” I warned as I loosened the rope in my hand, “You already know how dangerous I am with a rope.” I stated coldly, Delta eyed the rope as he rubbed his neck, “Yes, but if you make a move then he will slice her throat open,” He pointed behind him as one of the ninja held a blade to Echo’s throat. I sighed, “Look, you have to listen to me, mom is still alive.” I said, laying the rope down, Delta laughed, “Of course she is.” He said with a shrug of his shoulders, I froze at his statement, “You knew?” I asked as I clenched my fists, “Well yeah, the only reason she is alive is because I couldn’t find her.” He said as he stepped forward, “She is a caster, doesn’t matter who she is, she deserves to die.” He said coldly, that did it, something snapped inside of me and I wasn’t sure what, “You were willing to kill our mom!?” I yelled, my voice mixed with a demonic tone, causing Delta to step back, “Yes, and if I ever find her I’ll finish the job.” He commented, I growled as I lunged with insane speed, grabbing him by the throat and slamming him onto the roof. “Y-you monster!” The ninja dropped Echo and lunged at me, I muttered some words and held my hand up. A black mist wrapped around the ninja throats, lifting them up into the air. I squeezed my hand and a loud snapping sound echoed, causing the bodies to go limp. I then flicked my hand, tossing them off the side of the building, Delta took the chance and kicked me off of him, I slid across the rooftop, coming to a stop on the edge, I slowly stood up and growled, “You’re a monster.” Delta said then he lunged at Echo, “No!” I slammed my fists onto the roof, the roof quickly collapsed, causing us to fall. I snapped out of my trance when I heard the screams of Echo, “Echo..” I whispered as I pushed off the piece of rubble and caught the rope, I quickly tied the rope around an arrow and flipped out, the arrow shot out of my bow towards Echo, “Catch it!” I yelled just as the arrow whistled past her, she caught the rope and wrapped it around her waist, with what strength I had left I pulled her towards me, once her body slammed into mine, causing us to spin, I wrapped my arms around her as we slammed into a car, crushing the top.

I groaned as I slowly opened my eyes, pain coursed through my body with each breath I took, I looked down at Echo laying against my chest, cuts and bruises covered her arms and head, “Looks like I took most of the impact, thank God.” I thought to myself, “Your God has nothing to do with it, if it wasn’t for me then you both would be dead.” The demonic voice echoed in my head, “Who are you?” I asked the voice, “We will talk later, but if you don’t get her help then she will bleed out.” The voice replied then everything in my head went silence. I looked down and tried to locate the source of the blood, I froze when I located the huge gash across her side. I froze when I lifted her up, grunting at the pain as I rushed her back to the safehouse.
