I first started to notice his shivering a while after our last conversation. We'd taken to watching the waves again, I was absently drawing patterns in the sand at my feet.
I hadn't noticed the wind picking up more, only realising how cold it had become when I saw Taehyung shaking next to me. I assumed he probably didn't think he'd need to bring anything with him to keep himself warm, not when his intentions entailed never really leaving the beach.
I thought I'd be staying here for a while, so I was wearing two jumpers as well as a long sleeved shirt underneath.
"Tae?"
"Yeah?" He trembled through the cold.
"Are you— do you want one of my jackets?" I asked, he was shivering more by the second.
"If... if you wouldn't mind." He smiled sheepishly.
I handed him my thick jacket, the longer one in hopes he could cover his legs a bit too. He did so and instantly looked much more at ease.
"You're a lifesaver Kook." His tone was light, he probably didn't realise the meaning his words truely held. I couldn't help but think 'in more ways than one'.
But I shoved on a smile, still genuine because of seeing him happy and warm, but it held a certain sadness that I hoped he hadn't noticed.
He remained impassive, if he'd noticed there was no indication. We left it be. Staring back out at the crashing waves.
After a while, our peaceful silence was broken once again. "Why are you still here?" He asked.
"Pardon?" I replied.
"I'm not saying for you to leave again, if that's what you're thinking. No. I'm wondering why you're still here." He said, and as if looking into my soul he added, "And before you start I'm not taking what you said earlier, I know that's not the only reason."
I looked away, the oceans deep dark mystery suddenly much more convenient to look at. "I guess... I don't know, it kinda goes back to why I'm here in the first place." I said in a small voice.
"Did you wanna talk about it?" He asked.
"I— I mean... I don't really um, have a lot of friends or family or anything. My parents and I aren't that close and... thinking about it, I guess I don't really have any friends. I like your company, it's a nice change."
He nodded. "Yeah, I understand that. Feeling alone. I've got one really good friend, but I only get to see him at school. His parents don't like me." He said with a frown. "If you feel lonely again, walk around for a bit. I'll be around."
I nodded. "Ok."
"Ok."
