Chapter 14: Portal
"You didn't need to set up my tent Leon." Katie said that night during their shift on watch. They were both sitting on the ground.
"I know."
"Why did you then?" Katie asked, he shrugged "You looked tired from making the potion, so I figured you need a break." Leon laid down in the grass. "I've made harder potions before." Katie retorted as she leaned over Leon, glaring "If I needed help, I would've let you know. Alright?"
Leon smirked "Alright, now can you get up so that no one will get the wrong idea." Katie jerks up, blushing a bright red "That's-er-!" she stammers as Leon laughed "It's alright." She sat down on her knees, still flushed "Anyways, thanks for helping me."
"That's what friends are for."
"Get some sleep, I can handle the watch on my own." Katie said looking at the ground. "I'm fine." Leon replied, confuse "You should be the one taking up the offer."
"I'll be fine."
"Then I'll be fine too." Leon said. Katie glared at him for a few seconds. Before looking into the woods, "Is there anything you need, Katie?" She just shook her head. They looked into the forest until Kirby woke up, "Poyo?" he asked. "You can take Katie's spot." Leon replied, receiving a half-glare from Katie, "Fine, I'll go to bed. But don't let me sleep for long."

"'You are a failure. Why would I fall for someone like you?' he said walking. 'Please, don't go!' she called 'Can we at least be friends?' He just kept walking. The dream changes-"
"Katie! You need to wake up." Leon said to a sleeping Katie, "A storm is coming and we need to move!" But Katie snoozed on, mumbling something, Leon started to shake her shoulders "Poyo!" Kirby said-
"A boy walked in, covered in blood and holding a knife. The boy looked the same age as the girl and despite the bloody knife, The girl doesn't look scared of him. Thunder crashed-"
"Katie!" Leon tried again, rain pouring down on them. "Hiss?" Little Creeper asked, Leon shook his head "No, she's not. Now help me mover her."-
"There's a white sheet with red splotches on it, beneath the sheet there seemed to be to lumps lying on the floor. Yells could be heard behind them, 'Isogi nasai.' the boy said, pulling the girl over a pair of hands."
Thunder clapped, waking her. "Katie!" Leon said surprised. "What happened?" she asked; "A storm is here, but we couldn't wake you up before it came."
Katie sat up, "Anything else?", Leon shook his head as she wrung out her soaked hair "Alright, is it my shift?"
"Not yet. But you might want to sit closer to the fire, we don't want you to get sick." said Leon.
"Yes Mom." Katie rolled her eyes with a smirk, Leon turned fiscato "Don't roll your eyes at me young lady! I wasn't the one who decided to sleep outside with a storm coming, now was I?" Katie laughed "No."
" 'No' what?" Leon asked, barely keeping from laughing, but this only caused Katie to laughed harder. Thunder cracked, a dark purple light shined in the distance. "What's that?" Katie asked, standing. "Poyo?" Kirby asked, "Over ther-" She pointed into the woods but the light had already faded. Leon looked at her with some concern "Are you alright?" he inquired, walking up behind her. "I swear, I saw some light over-." Katie started to walk in the direction of the light but she felt Leon grab her arm. "Come on, you need to lay down." Katie jerked her arm free, turning to face Leon. "You think I'm seeing things, don't you?" She glared "Well, I'm not! I know what I saw and I'm going to check it out whether you like it or not." the anger flared in her eyes. "Katie," Leon said softly, "I'm not implying that it's just-" he bit his lip trying to think of an answer. Katie shook her head "Don't lie to me." she grabs her sword and run off into the forest.
"They're all the same." Katie mutters through the tears as she runs deeper into the trees grasps. Another flash of lightning, a dark purple light shone in the forest again. "Katie!" she heard Leon call in the distance. Katie turned to see her friends running up behind her, "Yeah?" she asked once they caught up to her. "Niiico!" Pink said, "Poyo!" Kirby nods. Katie looked confused "What do you mean?" she asked Leon as she crouch to pet Pink "We're coming with you. Besides," he nodded toward the light "we trust you." Katie smiled "Alright." she stood, brush the dirt off her pants, "Shall we then?". Leon moved his head in agreement as they continue toward the light.
"What is that thing?" Katie whispered, in the valley below them, there was a swirling purple void framed by about six-feet of obsidian. "Not sure." Leon replied, the team had hid underneath bush.
They watch for a few minutes until Undead came out of the void, causing a flash of purple light. "A portal! That's why they want the power crystal!!" Katie exclaimed a little too loudly. Leon nodded, clapping a hand over her mouth. "We need to destroy it." she said quietly once the hand was removed. "But how?" asked Leon, staring at the portal. Katie gave a devilish grin.

"Are you sure about this?" Leon asked as him and Katie sneaked over to the portal with two bags. Katie nodded "I did all of the calculations, with the amount we have, we'll at least damage the portal." Katie smile made her look a little too mischievous.
Once they reached the back of the portal, Katie opened the bag and started lining the base with a wall of C-4, all connected to some det cord and blasting caps as Leon stood guard, mumbling to herself.
"There." Katie said proudly after ten minutes of building with her destructive bricks. She hooks up the detonator and then pulled a thin blanket out of her backpack. "Okay, this thing," holding up the detonator "has a range of about 10 feet, which is not a safe distance away so we'll have to hide under the blanket." she said to Leon. "That thing?" he had a very confused look.
"Yup, I think I did all of the charms correctly." Katie hands Leon the "bomb" blanket "Now hold on to this as keep track of the distance." he nodded, still confused. Katie started to walk backwards, counting to herself.
"Stop." Katie knelt down, gesturing Leon to get down too.
"Are still sure this will work?" Leon asked. She nodded "Yup, I calculated how much force will be-"
"Not the bombs, I mean the blanket." Leon held it up, "Yes it will. Trust me Leon." Katie smiled. "Last time I trusted you, you got stabbed by your father."
"Oh shut up, that was only one time." Katie took the blanket from him "Now hurry up and get down."
They laid down, the blanket covering them both. "Three...Two...One." Katie whispered before setting off the C4.
