Chapter 7: Friendship in Hard Times
Ash(POV)
I woke up with my Unnova Clothes on the bed. There was a note saying that Gold went on a stroll this morning.
So, I fed Pikachu some Ketchup I bought last night from the store. I told him we too were going on a stroll. So, after we ate, we headed outside.
The streets were empty, nobody was in the shops or at work. I didn't understand why. That is until I saw Officer Jenny walking the streets.
"Officer Jenny!" I yelled towards her to get her attention. "Ash! Where's Gold? You need some protection around here." She questioned me.
I looked around the city indicating that nobody was here to kidnap me. She sighed and said,
"Ash, the reason the city is empty is because the war is beginning in two days. It is currently April 6th, so It is on April 8th. Everyone was evacuated by the Champions to the Old Battlefield. That's where they are heading. However, I'm not sure about you and Gold..."
I looked down and said, "I still can't decide. It's such a hard choice!" She bent down and confidently said, "Put your head up. The Ash the world knows always has a way to get through situations like these. They may be reckless, but they work. Trust me."
I smiled and put my hat on confidently.
I told her I was going to take a stroll and decide what path I was going to choose. She saluted and said good luck to me as I walked down the street towards a forest.
Pikachu stared at me as I spoke to myself. "What do I do! If I join my Mom's Side, we'd be easy to track down, plus my father would have me dead. But if I join his team, I'll be tortured to death, and he'll still hurt Mom, so that's a no. There is no correct choice! Either way I hurt somebody in the world! What do I choose! The world is waiting to know! They expect me to be perfect, but I'm not! I'm just a boy going through my parents arguing with each other that started a war! I can't even think straight!" I punched my fist against a tree. Pigeots flew out and flew away.
I sat down on a nearby bench and broke down crying. I couldn't stop myself, and just let the tears flow. It suddenly began to rain, and I just sat on the bench getting wet. Pikachu started to shiver, and I couldn't let him suffer because of me, so I ran to find a nearby cave to stay in. It was still cold, but now we weren't wet. It was now 4:48 P.M. There was lightning outside, and I didn't want to get electrocuted since I would die. So I stayed in the cave. I cried in there as Pikachu shivered.
Then, the Poke balls on my belt released themselves in front of me. Charizard, Sceptile, Infernape, Krockodile, and Greninja stood in front of me, looking at me. All of my aces were looking at me as if they were trying to tell me something.
Greninja ran out into the woods and brought some dry twigs to start a fire. Charizard and Infernape made a little camp. Sceptile and Krockodile covered the enterance of the caves with some rocks and leaves so the wind doesn't freeze us.
My Pokémon were helping me build a little camp.
Greninja also brought back some berries and he chopped them up using cut. We had a good meal, but the War still bothered me. That's when Greninja grabbed my hand, and took my hat off.
I saw what Greninja was seeing, and he saw me in despair, and in utter sadness. He knew I wasn't acting like Ash Ketchum. So, he was trying to make me open my eyes and find myself again.
He was telling me that I was lost again just like I was in Snowbelle City.
That's when he used cut to make a weird pattern in the ground. The dirt in the cave made it possible to draw. Krockodile actually helped Greninja with this strange symbol. When it was done it showed a large shuriken with a thunderbolt striking it.
Krockodile wrote "Team Ash" in the dirt.
Then, that's when it hit me. They had helped me make the final decision of what side I was going to choose. Greninja finally put my cap back on my head. He looked me straight in the eyes with a determined look. Greninja really was loyal to me.
The Pokémon stayed outside their poke balls to keep watch of me, it was now 5:41 P.M. Greninja walked outside the cave to head to the river nearby the cave.
Everyone else stayed inside.
I opened my Backpack to see the keystone and my z-ring still in the bag. I put them on my right wrist, but something strange happened.
My Pokémon attacked my keystone and z-ring! Charizard used Flamethrower, Sceptile used leaf storm, Infernape used flamethrower too, Krockodile used stone edge on it, and Greninja was only entering when he used water shuriken.
I thought it would break, but it didn't. Instead, the Z-Ring and Keystone Combined into one bracelet. It had the keystone on one side and the z-ring on the other side for both types of z-crystals.
It was Red and black. Leaves were coming out of the sides, and Little Rocks were around it. Lastly, a shuriken was surrounding the keystone as a pattern. All of my Pokémon roared in excitement, and I realized it was a gift for me!
However, Greninja brought the true gift to me. He found in the river a Charizard X MegaStone and a Sceptileite I think it's called. He found me the best gift ever! I thanked them all for the help they gave me.
They all were loyal to me and kind. Without their friendship, I would be lost in my thoughts.
I fell asleep soon after.
Gold(POV)
I woke up quite early that morning at 6:23 A.M. I put on my clothes, fed my Pokémon, and turned on the TV to PokeNews. I did Ash's Laundry for him since I knew that was the last thing he wanted to do.
However, an important message appeared on the TV screen. It flashed across the room.
I looked over to see the TV, and it showed Lance in Goldenrod City. That's when a helicopter flew by the hotel. The newsperson was shaking in fear of Lance, as she asked him what was going on.
Lance announced, "All citizens of Johto must evacuate to The Old Battlefield. If they don't then they will get eliminated by my other men who will be staying behind. This is happening for all regions! The war begins in two days, and the time has come!"
In the background I saw his men push people through the streets. They had houndooms next to them and if anyone were to attack, it could blast burn the people. Young people were in the crowd as well. They were holding to. their moms and dads in fear.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. I muted the TV and closed the curtains. They knocked harder on the door. I tried making as little noise possible. It was one of Lance's Men checking to see if anyone was here.
Luckily, an Officer Jenny came and said,
"I know for a fact nobody is in that room. I checked it yesterday and the hotel manager said that it was empty." After she said that the man left the room to another floor.
Officer Jenny slid a note under my door. It said that we were protected by the hotel manager and that we will have to stay in the room till 10:00 A.M. I was fine with that, so I stayed in the room and texted my mom on my Pokegear to see if she was ok.
She didn't reply.
I hope she followed the orders the men gave.
I don't need to lose her too.
My mom allows me to do whatever my dreams say, and I hope she is under at least some protection. It annoys me that nobody else is getting the same protection as we are. The TV was still on, and it was showing a picture of Ash Ketchum.
I turned on the subtitles and they stated,
"Ash Ketchum, 16 year old is missing! He's the reason this war started, but he in truth didn't start it. Rumors say that he'll appear at the Old Battlefield to confirm his choice. However, if you find him, leave him alone! He's going through the War worse than you are."
It really was true. Ash was going through the worse. I swear I hear him crying as he sleeps. Explotaro came up towards me, and began to rub against my pokegear. I too, was going through a lot, but just like Ash, my Pokémon were here to support me.
When it was finally 10:00 A.M, Officer Jenny came to check on me. She knocked on the door to make sure I was ok. She said that I should take a walk with her. So, I wrote Ash a note saying I was going on a stroll, and left the hotel room.
Officer Jenny took me to downtown Goldenrod City, which is where you can see the magnet train. The station was full of people trying to get out of Johto to Kalos. The men that Lance talked about were currently ordering the people to get on the train, and weren't going to start their hunt until tomorrow.
"You might want to take Ash to Kalos. The world believes that he'll reveal his choice there. I think you should stay with him, or you'll be hunted here by Lance's Men." she suggested to me. I've never left Johto or Kanto ever! All my friends live here, and we grew up here together.
However, I knew she was right.
She gave me a ticket that allows me to ride on any plane in the world.
"Thank you, Officer Jenny! I'll have to repay you someday." I told her as she smiled. "No problem for a fellow citizen who is supporting our department! You might want to pack extra things however." She replied.
She was right. I only packed enough things that would last me for 5 days, but I need more. So I sent out Togetaro (togekiss) and flew to New Bark Town. I realized I left Ash by himself, but he should be fine.
What's the worst that can happen?
