4. after all this time

CHAPTER FOUR

6 years later...

A LOT has changed within the last six years. Rhaenyra had married Daemon after faking Laenors death, Daemerys had been there when the pair planned the event, not wanting to leave her fathers side after the events that occurred that night.

Daemon had a lot of explaining to do but he did it, sat her down when Rhaenyra left — giving the two their space. He had told her everything, how her mother was his wife, how her mother had an affair and left her for dead, how he had found her, even told her that he killed her mother but she hadn't cared.

After a while, Daemerys forgave Daemon for keeping it a secret, knowing deep down he just wanted to protect her. She had been happier since they left Kings Landing, having a complete family — a mother, a father, brothers and sisters, she had everything.

Over the years she had spent her time travelling with Lord Corlys, he trained her with a sword and her father did the same when she was home. Though Lord Corlys was now missing in battle, the young woman had been home as she had not gone to battle with him due to her family suggesting she didn't go.

She had become an expert at practically everything, as well as keeping up with her studies in philosophy and history. She wanted to be the best, she had to be the best because if she wasn't then she was just a bastard and Daemerys didn't want to be just that.

As time went on, her sisters drifted away to be with their grandmother, leaving Daemerys to spent her time with the Velaryon brothers — not that she had minded, they took a great liking to her. She had protected them that night and continued to do so, the least they could do was greet her into the family with open arms.

Lucerys was the first to call her sister, Jace not far behind, it had warmed the woman's heart to know she had a family that loved her. Rhaenyra had been the mother that she needed since Laena's death and the princess did so with great pleasure.

"I took his hand and plunged my sword deep into his heart as he screamed, the sand blurring my eyes and the sea air kissed my skin", Daemerys dramatised and she stood on the table, her boys sitting in the chairs watching her with amazed expressions.

"Then what?", Lucerys asked eagerly.

"He died".

"Yeah no shit".

Daemerys glared at a smirking Jace whilst Luke hit the back of his head, "A dragon whisked through the air, his flames burning our enemies to the ground!".

As the woman yelled from the table, body moving with sword in hand, reenacting the events she was tailing, she didn't realise her mother and father watching from the door with amused smiles.

"And I told him as he stared at me, 'this is your end' and he cried, got on his knees and begged for his life and for a moment I pitied him but then I killed him anyway".

"You never—", the boys gaped at her.

Daemerys smirked, "I'm totally bullshitting this entire tale", she screeched as Jace's face dropped and he got out of his seat to climb the table after her.

Daemerys laughed as she ran, jumping off the table but he was faster, grabbing her waist and chucking her over his shoulder

Daemon and Rhaenyra entered as the three siblings laughed, Jace put the woman down and she smacked his chest lightly — faking annoyance.

"It was a good story, sweet girl", Daemon complimented and his daughter smiled. "Thank you, father".

The woman took a moment to catch her breath when Lucerys hugged her waist, her ruffling his hair — he had always been closer to her ever since that night, knowing she would protect him always. They were two dragons in a cave as their mother would say even if Daemerys wasn't a dragon by blood.

"What's the matter, mother?", Daemerys asked the woman who smoothed her swollen belly with a look behind her eyes — she seemed sad.

Rhaenyra tried her best to smile as Daemon rubbed her back, "Vaemond Velaryon wishes to call into question Luke's legitimacy", she told them.

The young woman looked down to the boy hugging her waist and tightened her grip on him — an act that didn't go passed Rhaenyra who warmed her heart at Daemerys capability of showing affection to her family and nobody else. "By extension to Jace and by extension my claim to the throne".

"This is absurd", Daemerys looked appalled as did Jace, "Your claim to the throne was made twenty odd years ago, he cannot simply test that now".

"Vaemond cares only about Driftmark and the Velaryon line. Not about our politics", Her father spoke, understanding her frustration as he had his own.

"What are we to about this? I should have his head", she spat, Jace gripping her shoulder to calm her down. Over the years some could say Daemerys had grown hateful. She hadn't, she just grew from hurt and betrayal and would kill anyone who dare spoke of her family in such ways.

"Now, my girl, do not fret. We are going to Kings Landing to settle this", Rhaenyra stroked her cheek and the woman nodded.

"I'll get the children's belongings ready, you should rest", Daemerys cupped her swollen belly with her free hand as Luke stayed attached to her side. Rhaenyra smiled at her thoughtfulness and nodded, knowing not to disrupt the woman's plans once they were in motion.

Taking Jace and Lukes hands and kissing her parents cheeks, Daemerys ventured through the halls to get them ready.

A closed eye will open the other to possibilities.

Daemerys stopped packing her things as the handmaidens and the boys continued to pack theirs. Her blue eyes looked up to the ceiling as the words bounced from the walls into her ears, only hers to be heard.

Jace turned to grab his cloak when he noticed his sister staring at the wall in front of her in some sort of dream. "Daem?", he asked softly, approaching her warily — the family grew used to these trances over the years. She would brush it off but they knew she heard things, things they couldn't hear — they dare say she predicted things before they happened.

Daemerys snapped her head to look at him, he looked worried but she simply smiled before brushing it off like she usually did and began packing her things again.

A closed eye will open the other to possibilities.

She ignored it because she knew exactly who they were talking about and she did not like it one bit.
