Chapter one
A sprawling city that sparkles with charm, where the locals have hearts as warm as sunshine. The place buzzed with joy and optimism, glowing vibrantly under the evening sky. It was that magical moment caught between day and night.
In this charming city, there was a family that had all the wealth and respect anyone could dream of—the Jeons. They seemed to have everything a person could wish for in life, except for one crucial thing: peace and happiness.
While most of the townsfolk admired and loved the Jeons, there was a group that couldn’t stand their riches and good looks.
The Jeon family consisted of five members: the head of the household, a retired military officer; his wife, who runs a school; their nineteen-year-old twins Jeon Jimin and Jeon Taehyung, who had won the hearts of everyone in town with their charisma; and last but not least, Jeon Jungkook.
It was just another ordinary day in the city, but for the Jeons, it was anything but. Their living room was in complete disarray as the family gathered to discuss a matter of great importance.
It was Jungkook's wedding. He hoped his dad would pick him as the next CEO of their billion-dollar automobiles company, but Mr. Jeon had different ideas.
"Jungkook, I see your dedication and talent to lead our company to success, but there are still some things you need to work on. Until I’m completely convinced, I won’t be making you the CEO," Mr. Jeon stated firmly, leaving Jungkook rubbing his temples to ease his frustration.
"What do I need to do to prove myself to you, Dad?" Jungkook asked, locking eyes with him.
"Take responsibility." Mr. Jeon said bluntly, leaving Jungkook looking completely taken aback.
"Of course I am—" Jungkook started, but Mr. Jeon interrupted him, raising a finger.
"In life, Jungkook. I want you to be responsible for your family." Mr. Jeon clarified.
"Okay, so what do you want me to do for them?" Jungkook asked, leaning back in his chair.
"Not them. They’re my family. I want you to create your own family. Get married, have—" Jungkook cut him off this time.
"Not a chance!" he shot back, crossing his arms defiantly.
"Then CEO, not a chance!" Mr. Jeon fired back, returning to his newspaper.
It wasn't that he disliked his son; he just wanted Jungkook to step up and be more dependable, if not for others, then at least for himself when he felt lost.
He understood that Jungkook was the kind of guy who kept his feelings to himself, not wanting anyone to look at him with pity. In his mind, he was above that.
Jungkook exclaimed, "But no one in this world meets my expectations!" Mr. Jeon just rolled his eyes at him.
"That's because you have such high standards and refuse to let anyone in. Until you ditch that ridiculous attitude, I can't hand over the company to you," Mr. Jeon said, standing up and walking out of the room.
Jungkook continued to stare at the empty chair after his dad left. His mom, Ji Won, sat next to him and took his hands in hers.
"Jungkook, I get how much this company means to you, but can you please think about your dad's request and consider marriage? I really believe you’d enjoy that life. It’s a win-win: you get your company and a partner for support, and we get to see you happy and thriving," she urged him.
Jungkook paused for a moment, letting out a deep sigh. "Alright, let's do this," he said, and Ji Won's eyes lit up with excitement. "Are you serious?" she asked, clearly surprised. "Yeah, I'm only agreeing because you made a solid point," Jungkook replied before heading to his room.
Meanwhile, Ji Won dashed to her husband’s study to share the big news. But Jungkook had something else in mind.
He figured he could just marry her, take over the company, and pretend everything was fine for his parents. Easy peasy.
What he didn’t realize was who he was about to strike a deal with.
Mr. Jeon was thrilled about his son's choice, but he knew his son was no pushover. For someone like Jungkook, he needed to pick a game that was up to par.
That’s when a certain name popped into his head.
"Let’s head over to the Wang's place. I bet she’ll be a great match for Jungkook," Mr. Jeon said with a sly grin as he plotted his next move.
"Her? Are you really sure about that?" Ji Won asked, looking a bit confused, while her husband Jae Hyun nodded confidently.
"I’ve never been more certain," Jae Hyun replied, pulling out his phone to call his old buddy Jackson Wang.
