ARC I. ❪ FROST MOON ❫

ARC ONE
❪ FROST MOON

 — SET IN 298 to 299 AC
A GAME OF THRONES / SEASON 1 ❫

When the blooms of summer die, the nights will turn still and silent, and the warmth follows the wind in the south, ice and winter rise, and the dead will walk the earth among the living, claiming their dominion over the kingdoms of men. ❞ — Mara's dream.

Kathryn Dayne puts her feet on the Northern soil for the first time, and nothing has ever felt more foreign to her. Despite being used to the warm breezes of the Summer Sea, the cold holds a soft comfort to her delicate skin, and her violet eyes are awed by the people her father had once been friends with.

But the North remembers, and they are quick to remind her how House Frost despises her. In the company of the King, Kathryn learns what truth lies in the stories her family has told her of the Starks. The dishonour and death they brought, yet the most treacherous claimed to be in Winterfell, a bastard, seems to be the one holding the same values as she does — only their sides differ. Two sides of the same coin, as the poets liked to say.

But here, in the cold lands of Westeros, Kathryn learns the dangers her blood brings along and becomes a player in the most deadly game of them all.

A game for power, title and the most wanted throne of all.

❝ The FROST MOON, often called the WINTER MOON, is the harbinger of Winter, announcing the end of summer and the long, cold nights to come. It is an uncommonly bright moon with blue light, which casts everything shone upon in shades of sapphire and azure. The unique moon appears twice in Winter, once when summer ends and Winter comes, and once when winter leaves and spring is about to bloom.

It was named Frost Moon, as it is best seen from Castle Dawnbreak, the seat of House Frost. House Frost believes that boys born during this phenomenon bring fortune and glory to their House. At the same time, girls born under this moon are said to be omens of destruction and death itself.

Known individuals born under the Frost Moon
Alistair Frost, son and heir to LORD KASTER FROST and LADY CECILIA FROST, upcoming of House Karstark, black of hair and born between the years 369 and 364 BC. During his life, the formerly believed dry mine underneath Dawnbreak witnessed a shaking of the ground and a thick wall of stone broke away inside the mine. Another prosperous amount of Frostvein was found and filled the chambers of coin for House Frost.

( this great wealth holds on to this day, the fifth day of the eleventh moon of the year 296 )

William Frost, first son to LORD EMERYS FROST and LADY MYRANDA FROST, upcoming from House Lannister of Lannisport, chestnut head and born in an unknown year during the era of the Kings of the North. He travelled to Ifequevron and married a local noblewoman. During his time Dawnbreak was rebuild to what it is to this day.

( Duncan Frost, first son and former heir to LORD BENJEN FROST and LADY REGINA FROST, upcoming from House Whitehill, brown of hair and born in the year 257 after the Conquest was one of the greatest tourney competitors and known to never lose a verbal discussion. Kind and loyal to his friends and family, he brought House Frost close to House Targaryen of King's Landing, which in return made them one of the most popular houses in the realm.

Duncan's luck outrun at the Battle of the Tridant when he fell beside Prince Rhaegar Targaryen. )

Mara Frost, second daughter of OSKAR FROST and his unnamed wife, chestnut head. Only claimed to be born under a Frost Moon in the time of the Kings of the North, was said to be responsible for the fall of the first Dawnbreak, as a few years after her birth, the castle was burned and destroyed, as well as her father killed. She was exiled into the Wolfswoods and never seen again. Some say her ghost wanders those forests and those who lay eyes on her during the night are cursed to wander the Wolfswoods for all eternity.

(Kathryn Sand, bastard daughter of DUNCAN FROST and ASHARA DAYNE, chestnut head, born in the year 283 after the Conquest. Despite not being born at Dawnbreak, the news of the day the girl was born overlaps with the sighting of the last Frost Moon since this day, the sixteenth day of the third moon of the year 293 after the conquest. Lord Maric Frost, brother of Duncan Frost claims her birth to have caused her father's, grandfather's and grandmother's death as all three passed away in the same year.

( AUTHOR'S NOTE )

I hope it is clear that the "curse" of the Frost Moon is such misogynist tale and history was written by men. It will be talked about this later in the story ! It was also inspired by the Witcher's Black Sun curse. I loved this plot and how facts can be turned and spun like crazy!! I loved the idea to make Kathryn being born at the Frost/Winter Moon when Spring was about to start.

Yes, I recasted almost every Stark because... reasons. I just wanted some new faces in there and no distinguish them a bit from their show counterparts as I am going more into the book's storyline and events. Also yes, they are called "Young ..." because their faceclaims will change again in the later arcs because I can.
