Y/n's POV

We were on the bullhead and I was just sitting in the bullhead.

I was sitting next to Ruby as the bullhead door was open. I felt the wind brush past my hair and the rest of RWBY sat down with me.

I looked at Oobleck questionably.

Y/n: So, I didn't think you were much of a fighter.

Oobleck: although I consider myself an intellectual I have had my fair share of tussles.

Ruby: What does that mean?

Y/n: It means fighting.

Ruby emphasised the letter 'O'.

Oobleck: besides, giving my expertise in the field of history, as well as my by doubling in the art of archaeological surveys, idea headmaster saw it fit to assign me to this particular assignment.

Y/n: What does history have to do with this?

Oobleck: Why! What a preposterous question you stupid boy! Why, history is the backbone of our very Society. And the liver! And probably the kidneys if I were to wager.

Weiss: What does that mean?

I zoned out.

Y/n: the Southeast quadrant outside of Vale is home to Wild forest and deep caves but karma it is the location of to one of the kingdom greatest failures.

They again just stared at me. I just started to rub my face with my hands.

Y/n: Theres something on my face isn't there!

Ruby: Mountain Glenn.

Yang: That's right! It was an expansion of Vale. Stop but in the end it was over run by Grimm and fenced off from the rest of the city.

Oobleck: Correct! Now it stands as a dark reminder.

Blake: And a likely place for a hideout.

Oobleck: Precisely.

We were then coming down and the ship landed. We all jumped out with style. Well except for me and Oobleck. We both just drank from our flasks.

Oobleck: now your first mission as Huntsman and huntress has begun!

Y/n: Actually this is my 37th mission

They all stared at me surprised.

Ruby: Wow!

Oobleck: Now, let's not get distracted. From this point forward you need to do exactly as I say. Do you understand?

He then looked at me and Ruby.

Oobleck: Ruby! Y/n! I thought I told you to leave your bags at school.

Ruby then get flustered and didn't know what to say.

Y/n: Yeah, but you haven't told us to listen to you yet, so I didn't.

He then put his finger on his chin.

Oobleck: Hes not wrong. Very well done leave your bags here come over we can pick it up upon your return.

Ruby/Y/n: But-

Oobleck: What in the world could you possibly have that bag that can be so important for you to bring it-

Colenal and Zwei popped out of the bag.

Colenal: Cluck! (Did he just call me impor-)

Zwei: Bark! (Shut up ya chicken I'll give you a backha-)

Colenal: Cluck! (At least I wasnt Born to a bi-)

Y/n: Both of you get back in the bag...

Oobleck just stared at the both of them

Oobleck: we're to investigate and abandoned urban jungle teaming with death and hostility and you brought a dog and a chicken?

We all looked at each other.

Oobleck picked up Zwei and Colenal.

Oobleck: genius! Canines are historically known for their perceptive nose and heightened sense of sound. Making them excellent companions for hunts such as ours, and the chicken.... Is excellent bait!

Y/n/Ruby: I'm a genius!/ WHAAAAT!

They all face palmed.

Blake: What are your orders doctor.

He dropped Colenal and Zwei.

Oobleck: Ahh! Straight to the chase! I like it! As you know mountain Glen has been a hot spot for recent grimm activity. Now there are several possible explanations for this behaviour. One of which being grim.

Y/n: Me no speak Italian German.

Oobleck: A creature of Grimm standing 100 yards away from us at this very moment in time.

I cocked my gun and Colenal took his stance right behind me. And so did RWBY. We sheathed our weapons.

Oobleck: Stop.

Y/n: Now I'm bored. Fix me.

Oobleck: There are a number of reasons by Grimwood congregate in this particular area. The most likely would be the attention to negativity. Sadness, envy, loneliness, hatred all qualities that are likely held by it or hidden group harbouring ill intent.

Y/n: So what we gonna do now?

Oobleck: We wait, we track, if the specimen leaves us to his pack, that may subsequently leads us to our pray.

Y/n: How long do we wait?

Oobleck: it's uncertain uncertain, hours, days, weeks, Why lone grim have been known to stand isolated from the pack for months and there's a whole pack.

I looked at the whole pack and tried to grab their attention while making it seem unintentional.

Y/n: What!?!

They pack stared at me and I stared at them back. I looked proudly at Oobleck.

Y/n: I take it tracking is out of the question ?

Oobleck: An accurate assumption yes.

Yang: What's the plan then?

Oobleck: Show me what your capable of.

The grimm started to run at us we all charged at them. I shot many with my gun then I grabbed my scythe and ran at them all slicing them all in the torso and neck. I heard a growl behind my and then a thud. I looked back to see Colenal and Zwei holding a rope by their mouth I then shot the Beowulf in the head and let both of them.

Y/n: Who's a good boy!

Then Weiss impaled them with ice and stabbed them in the chest. Grimm started charging at Blake well she paid no attention to them she put her hand on gambol shroud and as soon as the Grimm struck her shadow disappeared and she appeared on top and slice them all in in the chest turning them into two pieces she did this multiple times until they're all gone.

Yang then run at the grim and punch them all in the face knocking a few off and into the others. They all disappeared into black smoke. Ruby then started to shoot some with her sniper knocking almost all of them down leaving one left she then charged at the Grimm with insane speed and painlessly killed it buy a clean cut into two pieces.

While this was happening the professor was just looking at the bush and searching it for any clues while Yang protected him by hitting a Grimm in the face making it fall on the floor. RWBY tired but I was drinking milk from my flask to feel more energized.

Oobleck: Good work everyone one! There doesn't seem to be any signs of criminal operations in this sector. Oh well, moving on!

Zwei: Bark! (Worship me human!).

Yang: Hey doc, I was actually looking forward to seeing a pro Huntsman in action. Like fighting or at least helping as fight

Oobleck: Ah, but I am in Action, the ruins of this once great city for any signs of irregularities. Not every mission is filled with daring and heroism boys and girls. Sometimes it's just a heightened form of extermination remember, this is a job, and you all signed up for it. I hope you understand that.

Yang: Well yeah! Of course!

The professor just hummed.

Timeskip

Gunshots went off as grim fell to the floor dead. The professor looked around and examined the area.

Oobleck: Tell me Yang, why did you choose this line of work?

She was quite taken aback to what Oobleck had just said.

Yang: W-Well, to fight monsters and save the wo-

Oobleck: No that is what you do, I want you know why you do it.

Yang: Well I'm a thrill-seeker. I want to travel around the world and get wrapped up in as many crazy Adventures as I can. and if I help people along the way that will be a win-win you know.

He then thought about that and zoomed off.

Timeskip

He was sitting on a broken wall. While Weiss was fighting.

Oobleck: and you miss Schnee, a girl born into fame and fortune such as yourself certainly doesn't need any extra work. So, why choose this over a cushy job in Atlas?

She stabbed another Grimm and looked at Oobleck.

Weiss: it's exactly as you said, I'm a Schnee. I have a Legacy of honour to hold. Once I realised I was capable of fighting, there was no longer a question of what I would do with my life. It was my duty

Oobleck: Interesting.

Timeskip

Blake opened a door and baby Nevermores flew out of it she put her gun in the air and shot them all down. Oobleck came up behind her with a questioning face.

Oobleck: And what about you Blake? You seem to carry yourself with the sense of purpose.

Blake: there's too much wrong in this world too just stand by and do nothing. Inequality, corruption, someone has to stop it.

Oobleck; Very well, how?

Blake was speechless as she didn't know what to say so she just staying up the floor looking for an answer in her head. Oobleck left her and went away.

Timeskip

Oobleck walked up to me while I was sitting down and shooting grim. He sat next to me.

Oobleck: And what about you Y/n?

I looked around and saw no one there I looked at the doctor and it looked him sad remembering all of my past memories.

Y/n: I love doing what I do. I love killing grimm. I love saving lives. It gives me purpose. I was always brought up to be a Huntsman. I've always had the physical abilities to become one so why waste it.

Y/n: And to be honest. There is nothing else in this world that I would rather be, than a Huntsman.

Oobleck: I see. You see this as purpose

I nodded.

Oobleck: I want to show you something Come with me.

We then followed as he walked off Ruby stayed next to me and walked beside me.

Ruby: How you holding up?

Y/n: You know, the usual.

Ruby: Hmm...

Oobleck then stepped on a cliff to see A herd of Goliath. They were all walking in a herd and were going across a path.

Y/n/Ruby: Whoa!

Ruby: What is that?!

Oobleck: That is a Grimm, A goliath.

Me and Ruby cocked our scythe.

Y/n: Let's kill it.

Ruby immediately remembered what he said with Oobleck.

Oobleck: Now with that sniper the only thing it would do is agitate the grim of that size. Not every Grimm is mindless. Or rather not every grim is still mindless. You see the grim you see before you are so powerful, so superior to the grim you fought that they undoubtedly have lived hundreds of years full stop and in that time between killing humans, and attacking our borders karma they've done one important thing thing, they've learnt. They've learnt that when they attack our borders they likely to die. And what we lack in strength will make up for in will. And that killing one human, will only bring more.

Ruby: Then why are they so close to the city? What are they doing?

Oobleck: Waiting.

He walked away and me and Ruby looked at each other and followed him.

Ruby: Oobleck, Why did you become a huntsman.

Oobleck: Look around and tell me what you see.

Ruby: lots of old buildings, empty streets...

Y/n: Lives that could've been saved?

Oobleck: Precisely, as a Huntsman, it is my job to protect the people. And also I am capable of doing it with traditional weaponry weaponry, I believe I can make a much larger impact if I do it with my mind. As a teacher I am able to take knowledge, the most powerful weapon of them all all, and place it into the hands of every student that passes through my classroom. I look at this Wasteland and see lives that could have been saved. But I also see an opportunity. An opportunity to study these ruins and learn from this tragedy. And therefore become stronger. I am a Huntsman, because there is nothing else in this world I would rather be.

He left us in astonishment. We looked at each other in astonishment.

Timeskip

We walked up the stairs so see a fire on the floor and everyone standing by it. Ruby teleported to the fire.

Oobleck: Ahh, a textbook campfire.

Ruby: So... Warm...

Oobleck: Ok we need someone to keep watch for any Grimm that may come near abode.

Y/n/Ruby: Me!

Ruby: Dibs!

Y/n: ...I'll keep you company.

Oobleck: You have a lot of work tomorrow so get some rest after you eat and goodnight.

Me and Ruby walked to a broken wall and sat down. I leaned on her shoulder. We put our heads on each other.

Zwei and Colenal came to us and sat on our lap. We petted both of them.

Ruby: Dont worry, things will be better tomorrow.

And boom!
