Chapter Two: Hurt
Bellamy's POV
I strode into dad's office. I was furious over what happened and there was no way I was going to let him get away with what he did.
"What do you think you were doing when you dragged her into this mess?" I inquired, resting my palms flat against his wooden desk so I could get on his eye level.
I scoffed when he smiled at me, reclining in his office chair and motioning me to sit. I ignored him.
"I knew exactly what I was doing, you saved the girl, didn't you?" He said.
"After risking her life! We made a deal!" I exclaimed.
"And did you keep your end of the bargain?" He asked.
I thought I could hold my end of the bargain when I took this case but when I finally came face to face with Trace, it was like he was mocking me. He had that look on his face, the kind where he knew that I wouldn't be able to do anything to him and that in the end, he would always win. I wanted to wipe the grin off his face when he mentioned the countless ways he tormented people, my friends and Blake. Till the end, all he wanted to do was torture others- he was cruel and remorseless and I was glad I put an end to him.
When I didn't answer, dad reached for his cup of coffee. It was insane how this man drank coffee in the middle of the night. Heck, he always called us in at ungodly hours.
"I had to break the deal. He didn't leave me any other choice." I said, relaxing into the chair knowing damn well that it was going to be a long night. "I killed Trace."
"He didn't kill Trace." Michael burst into the room and grinned. "He almost did, but we managed to save him. We will move him to the cellar once the doctors done with him."
I banged my fist against the table. "What? That's not possible."
Michael laughed as he tried to pat my shoulder but I shoved his hand away. "You missed all the important places."
I furrowed my eyebrows and glared at him.
Michael was a dick.
His dad was my father's right-hand man but he died in a shoot out a few months ago. Since Michael was the closest thing my dad had to a son, he gave him his father's position because apparently, he was one of the best men we had.
"I was keeping my end of the bargain." I mumbled, the last thing I needed was Michael rubbing this in my face.
"Alright, alright. Sit down Michael, we have plans to discuss." Dad said, gesturing towards the empty chair beside me.
"Did you guys clear out the area properly? I don't want the cops on our tail." I asked Michael.
He rolled his eyes at me. "Yeah, the cops were taken care of. Besides, you don't need to worry about us. We know how to do our job."
I ignored the jab and turned to my dad. "She has questions. You shouldn't have involved her in this."
"Well, there's only one way to end a woman's curiosity." Michael laughed.
I resisted the urge to punch him square in the face.
"I guess I'll be leaving then." I said, unsure of what was going on.
"Sit down, son. You still have some work to do before you're free to go." Dad slid a file across the table. It landed in front of me. I pushed it back and gave him a look.
"We had a deal, you said you'd save Blake if I gave you Trace. I got him now, I'm free to do whatever I want."
Dad audibly sighed. "Very well. I'll be expecting you soon."
I knew for a fact that wasn't going to come back here. He wasn't much of a father anyways. I needed his help and he exploited my weakness for his own gain. That, and I had a future to care about. I wasn't going to let him get in the way of my dreams. I knew if I stayed with him then I wouldn't be able to go that far. I'd be stuck in this town committing petty crimes for fun.
I wasn't going to turn out like him.
I gave him a slight nod, stood from my seat. I noticed Michael waving with a grin on his face. I ignored the idiot and walked out of his office. I smiled thinking it's the last time I'll be here. I pushed past the mass of drunken people still dancing at the club and took a deep breath when I pushed open the exit door.
Who would've thought that my dad was hiding at one of the most popular clubs in downtown? I scoffed to myself and walked to my car.
The sky was still dark which meant I had enough time to get some sleep. I was driving home when I realized I owed someone an apology. Fifteen minutes later I was standing in front of Jane's house.
The front lawn was a mess. I cringed at the amount of vomit in the driveway, I barely dodged them when I reached the front door.
I entered the foyer and looked around, it seemed like the party was dying down. The music wasn't too loud and there was more garbage than people. I doubted Jane would be down here, mostly because I knew I made her upset when I drove her here. Shit. I forgot her car was still at my place.
I sighed and went up the stairs. There was a line of people coming down, cursing and muttering things. I raised a brow at them as I went to the top. There was a mass of people standing outside the guest room and it seemed like they were being ushered downstairs, I got a glimpse of Harry but I decided to ignore the crowd.
I turned towards Jane's room. My hand rested on the doorknob as I thought about what I should say to her - if she was even awake. I shouldn't have said the things I did yet I did. The only thing I could do now was apologize.
I turned the doorknob, surprised she hadn't locked the door. I slipped inside and locked it. Jane hadn't noticed my presence so I took my time approaching her. She was lying on the floor with her legs propped up on the bed and her chestnut brown hair were spread out around her head. I noticed she was wearing earphones which was probably why she hadn't heard me- Timberlands weren't exactly the quietest things on a wooden floor.
I crouched down behind her and poked her cheek. She flinched, her eyes darting from the ceiling to me. I watched as her expression changed from thoughtful to angry. I couldn't stop myself from grinning as I waited for her to go full mad gorilla on me.
"What the hell? I nearly had a heart attack!" She pouted, putting a hand on her chest and lightly rubbing it.
I rolled my eyes and took her hand in mine. "You should've locked the door then."
"I thought I did." She said, pulling her hand out of my hold. I frowned at her but she paid me no mind. "Don't you have somewhere to be?"
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. Did she really have to stir the conversation in this direction?
"I am where I'm supposed to be."
"No, this my house and my room." She stated, pointing in the air as she stood up.
She folded her arms like she always did when she was mad. If she wanted to look the least bit intimidating then she needed to stop doing that.
I could only think about picking her up over my shoulder and throwing her on the bed when she did that.
"You can go downstairs where everyone else in or better yet leave to one of your places since you're so in demand these days."
"It's not like that Jane, you know it." I said softly. "I only want to be here with you."
"Really?" She scoffed. "Where were you the last two days?"
I sighed, focusing on the ground. I was out running errands for my dad and preparing for tonight but I couldn't tell her that. She'd hate me if she knew what I was doing.
"Bellamy, we have to talk about this." She pleaded with her eyes. "You can't just expect me to act like nothings wrong. I can't do that and I know you can't either."
I huffed out a breath. "I removed the problem in the equation. There's nothing left to worry about."
"So you're just going to act like you didn't kill someone, no matter how God damn evil he was, it's going to take its toll on you." She strode towards me, holding both of my arms tightly. "And what if the police find us? Have you thought about that? I'm not gonna let them do anything to you!"
I hands wrapped around her waist as I brought her close to me. I was certain she spent most of her time being worried than living her life. I squeezed her lightly before lifting her chain so I could look into her beautiful ocean blue eyes.
"Babe, I didn't kill that bastard. He's locked away in a cell far from here." I didn't want to tell her that he was currently in the second basement cellar of downtown's most famous club.
"So the cops got him?" She asked quietly.
I slowly nodded even though I hated lying to her but in my defense it was for her own good.
I was sure she was going to say something else but then as if she changed her mind, she hugged me tightly and I smiled to myself.
I missed the feeling of her.
"Jane?" I said after a moment of us just holding onto each other. She hummed against my chest and I took it as an answer that she was listening. "I love you."
She tilted her head up, staring into my eyes before pressing her soft lips against mine. It was a gentle kiss, both of us moving our lips slowly to devour each moment. She pulled away first, licking her swollen pink lips.
"I love you, too."
I picked her up and placed her on the bed, before lying down next to her. I missed touching her, kissing her and just being with her.
I knew it was fault for being so distant but I knew she'd catch on to my lies and know what I was getting myself involved in. What I didn't think about was what I'd say after everything was over. It didn't ponder over it much, the only thing I wanted to think about was Jane.
Gosh, I was so whipped.
I grinned at Jane as she caressed my jaw. I grabbed her hand and brought it to my lips, kissing it gently. She looked so fragile.
"Blake, you in there?" I recognized Brianna's voice from the other side of the door. That, and she was the only person who banged on doors hard enough to make them weak at the hinges.
I groaned, "Don't answer her."
"Yeah, what is it?"
"It's time to clean up, mom said she'll be here by 10, it's already 6."
Great, now we were stuck cleaning up after a party we didn't even attend. I gave Jane a look when she pushed me off, shaking her head as if I was the idiot.
"Don't be mean, we promised we'd help out." She said, adjusting her pajamas.
"Yeah, right." I mumbled.
I followed her downstairs and stopped when I saw Harry kicking out a few guests.
"And that was the last of 'em." He said, throwing his hands up in the air in victory, but his celebration died as soon as a girl vomited in front of the door.
I grimaced and looked away, pinching my nose. "I'm gonna leave you with that." I said and patted Harry's back for support.
Brianna was in the living room, rearranging the furniture and giving everyone orders. Jane was told to take out the trash while Chris was cleaning up the backyard. Luke was appointed to clean upstairs and Eliza was trying to clean the pool.
"I didn't think you'd show up." Brianna said when Jane dragged one of the garbage bags outside. I shrugged my shoulders at her. "I don't know what's going on between the two of you but you should put your differences aside and cherish the time you have together. You'll hardly be able to meet once college starts."
I sighed, I didn't even want to think about this let alone talk it. "We're working it out, don't worry." I said dismissively.
"You can help Keith in the kitchen." She turned away and began to push the coffee table in the center of the room. I helped her then made my way to the kitchen.
Keith was standing in the doorway looking around. "Hey, man." I said, grabbing his attention. He smiled at me, lifting a fist at the same time as I did. He stepped aside after we fist bumped.
I cringed at the sight before me. Bottles littered the counters and floor. There were leftovers of snacks scattered all around the kitchen, making me wonder if someone had a food fight. "The fuck happened here?"
"My exact thoughts. Wait till you see the sink." Keith smirked, leading me towards it. There was barely a clean spot on the floor to step foot on.
I raised my eyebrows when I saw the sink. Unbelievable. I looked at Keith to confirm that I wasn't I the only one seeing it. He nodded his head at, confirming that the blown out condoms were, in fact, there.
"What do you think Bri's gonna do when she finds out?" I whispered, turning away because I couldn't look there anymore.
"As much as I want to see her reaction, I don't think that's a good idea. She'd probably move houses. Heck, I don't think we should tell anyone. They'll make us clean it anyway. I'd die before anyone sees me cleaning this shit."
I agreed him however I wasn't going to be the one cleaning this. "Your secrets safe with bro."
I knew he was going to argue so I shoved a garbage bag in his chest. "Get cleaning," I huffed. He glared at me before turning towards the sink, I stifled back a laugh as I got my phone out to record him.
After what felt like ages, we finished cleaning. The house practically shined. We settled in the TV lounge. The guys and I were sprawled on the couch and floor. The girls were currently in the kitchen, deciding what to order.
I leaned towards the end of the couch so I could look at Jane who was leaning against the kitchen doorway. Her hair were still were from the shower and she ran her hands through it trying to untangle the knots. I noticed she was wearing one of my shirts because of how big it was on her. She tied a knot at the end and wore black tights under. Damn her legs were fine.
Suddenly my view was obstructed by Harry big head. He was looking at me like a creep, with wide eyes and an open mouth. I shoved his face away. "Dude, what the hell?"
"That's what you look like when you stare at Blake." He said making everyone laugh.
Luke handed me a tissue. "You got some drool over there," He said, pointing on the right side of my chin.
The boys roared with laughter as I rolled my eyes and sat up straighter, discreetly wiping my mouth when I felt something wet. Fuck.
"You're sucha lovesick puppy." Harry commented.
I raised my brow at him. "Like you don't love Eliza." I retorted to which he flicked me off. When he didn't meet my eyes again, I felt someone was off. Heck, I don't even remember the last time I saw them together.
Before I could question they're relationship, somebody questioned mine. I asked Keith to repeated himself since I didn't hear him the first time.
Keith leaned in closer, eyeing the boys. They were too busy discussing something else from last night to listen to us. I turned to Keith.
"Look, I've been meaning to ask you something but I wasn't sure if I should or not." He paused, waiting for my reaction. I prompted him to go on. "It's about you and Princess."
I closed my eyes for a brief moment. Why was he still calling her princess? "I know what you're going to say." I stated. "I know we've been distant but it's not like that anymore, I love her, I'm not gonna let her go and college won't change anything either."
"Damn," Harry commented and I noticed everyone in the room had their ears on our conversation.
"It's the ones that think they've figured it all out that actually lose their path in college." Luke said. I scoffed at him while Harry and Chris looked at him like he grew another head.
"That sounds like something Chris would say." Harry said.
"Oh please, that's complete bullshit." Chris argued. "Let's say someone's planned out everything and gets distracted by other shit, they'll eventually go back to their plan if they want to graduate."
"But nobody does!" Luke exclaimed. "Do you know how high the dropout rate is?"
"More than half of the students enrolled dropout." Harry answered.
Keith nudged my arm, gesturing that we discuss things outside. I followed him to the patio outside.
"What is it?" I asked harshly.
Keith suddenly shoved me backwards. "It's you." He spat.
"What the fuck?" I pushed him away and glared.
"They might not see it but I can, clearly." He said, pointing to everyone inside from the large glass window. "I knew something was up months ago and I waited for you to tell me or Blake about it but you didn't."
He paused momentarily, realizing that he was being too loud. I watched him pace back and forth, the sudden rage trying to let loose. "What I'm trying to say is that you can't just eliminate the bad guy and act like nothing was ever wrong."
I studied him closely. There was no way he could've known about what I was doing. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Blake told me everything." He said.
She wouldn't, why the fuck would she tell him? I stayed silent, thinking that he was trying to get information out of me.
"It's Trace we're talking about. This guy has the police on his side. Why do you think I didn't anything before?" He ran a hand through his hair and continued, "You should've thought this through to the end. Blake's gonna lose her shit when she finds out what you've gotten your self into. If either of you even get the chance to see each other one last time before someone gets to either of you."
"I know what I'm doing, alright." I said confidently. Dad wasn't just running a gang in the city, he had ties with other people in different regions and by the amount of wealth he liked to spend, it was safe to say he had connections with the mafia. "And you don't need to worry my girlfriend."
"She's been coming to me each time you let her down. I'm not gonna stand idly while you go down a dark path and try to drag her along with you."
"I'm only protecting her. Unlike you, I actually did something rather hiding like a coward." I shouted.
He didn't know batshit about the things I've done and here he was trying to make me the bad guy. I felt a rush of blood coursing through my veins. My fingers curled to form tight fists, I was losing my cool.
"Better to be a coward than a murderer."
"What the fuck did you just call me?" I sneered, grabbing Keith by the collar.
"A fucking murderer." He spat.
My fist moved on its own accord, colliding with his jaw. I felt a rushed of pain but it went away when I saw the damage I did to him. Well fucking deserved, I thought and smirked.
Keith was surprised with my sudden outburst, but clearly he had it coming. He was glaring at me but then he's eyes shifted to something behind me. I watched as he brought a hand up to his busted lip, the rage in his eyes was gone and replaced with something else.
I turned around and came face to face with Jane. Her eyes were wide open and her mouth agape- there was no hiding the shock.
"What's going on here," She said, taking a step back as she looked at me and Keith. I opened my mouth to answer but she beat me to it. "What did you do to him?"
My eyebrows scrunched in confusion. What was that supposed to mean? Was I supposed to just stand by while someone called me a murderer? She couldn't be serious.
But she was. I watched her run towards Keith, and ask him if he's alright. I completely lost it when she brought her hand up to touch his busted lip. "What the fuck is going on between the two of you?"
They turned to me, confusion etched on their faces. "I could ask you two the same thing." Jane retorted. Her body stiffened, radiating annoyance.
I scoffed at her. "Ask me what, Jane?" I asked, taking a step closer to her. "I told you nor to tell anyone yet you did. You practically betrayed me!"
"Betray you? Do you know what I felt like when you left me here, after everything that happened. I needed you."
"And don't you think I need you?"
"I know you need me, but not for emotional support. You just want a distraction from everything that happened and as much as I love you, I don't want to be that person."
I stared at her in disbelief. That's not why I came to her. That's not what I was trying to do. I wanted to tell her that but I just couldn't. I couldn't think of the right thing to say. "So, this is how you repay me?"
Gone was that intense stare. I couldn't recognize the look of her face but her silence told me that I won the argument.
Keith, who had been silent during our exchanged cleared his throat. "You need to leave." He said, I furrowed my brows in confusion. "Get out of here, man. You've said enough."
He couldn't be serious. It seemed like he wanted me to have a,another go at him. I looked at Jane but she refused to look at me. She was staring behind me and when I moved to catch her gaze, she turned her head away.
Keith put an arm around her shoulder and glared at me. I didn't know what was going on between them but seeing them like this made my blood boil. I ran a hand through my hair in exasperation. I paused when I saw everyone who was inside staring at us in shock.
I narrowed my eyes at them and they quickly returned to what they were doing. It pissed ne off even more.
With one last glance at Jane, I walked inside the house and grabbed my jacket from the couch. Chris tried to stop me but I ignored him. I cursed loudly when I made it to my car.
This wasn't what I wanted.
