Chapter Thirty Five: D 'N' A

"I still can't believe you suggested this and that to on a weekday." I said when the car stopped right in front of me,

"I thought you were one of those people who wouldn't mind bunking school for a month, let alone a day." Drake remarked as he stepped outside his car, taking off his shades.

He looked so handsome in those blue-shaded sun glasses, I tell ya!

"You think so highly of me, feeling honored." I snapped back in sarcasm.

"I think even higher than this of you." he said huskily.

I gave him a look.

"But seriously, are you sure you're mentally ready to bunk all classes for today cause you take down notes and explanations  of practically every word ever uttered by a professor." I said, "I'm sort of feeling guilty you won't be able to do that today."

"My car should feel guilty cause it complained to me that I should take you out for a day so that it doesn't rust in the school's parking area all day long." he responded cheekily.

I gave him a look. Again.

"I thought you would say 'I-can-do-anything-to-spend-an-entire-day-with-you' or something like that." I said critically.

"Really??Oh." he pretended to be astonished.

I rolled my eyes.

"You look cute when you do that." he gave that silly boyish grin, "Get in the car now! Can't wait to have a beautiful day with you."

That made me all dreamy-eyed. Hehehe.

He got in the driver's seat, I sat next him and we drove off. So yeah, Drake wanted to spend an entire day with me & I obviously said yes. Lets see what all places we go today.

I turned to look at the back seat and found a picnic basket sitting there.

"Uh, you told me we were gonna eat in a restaurant. If you had told me, even I would've made something & brought along like you did." I said.

"Well, there's nothing much in there, just pancakes, nachos and your favorite cookies. Wanted to make something for you & get it." Drake replied, turning at me occasionally but with his eyes fixed on the road ahead.

"That is so sweet!" I said in delight, "Didn't think you would do that. So, you cooked for me, uh-huh?"

"I made, or rather, tried to make pancakes, Grandma made nachos." he admitted modestly.

"I wish I could make a dish & brought it for you." I slouched on the seat.

"I wanted to take the first turn to do something for you. You can definitely make me one when I sneak into your house, or rather your room, at nights. " he smiled impishly.

I giggled.

Looking outside through the window, I realized we had left the city landscape far behind and were now driving along the countryside. Vast stretches of tall green trees & grasses flanked either side of the quiet narrow winding road and you could even see the grayish-green hills lurking at a far away distance. The sun glittered in the clear blue sky with a couple of white clouds wandering about. The cool breeze, when inhaled, gives one a sense of tranquility. The weather was a happy, pleasant one indeed.

I looked at the front, the road seemed to be never-ending but the scenic view that it presented was entirely breath-taking. I was staring at Drake after that who had his eyes on the road ahead. My hands instinctively reached to caress his blonde hair. I inched my face closer to him & kissed him on his cheek.

"We will be there soon." he said.

A while later, we were at the woods. We got outside the car and stepped in there. Holding hands, Drake & I set off in the woods, admiring the place we were in. The path was laden with grass, red soil and pink flowers sprouting here and there. We could hear the hustling of the leaves whenever the air whizzed past and also the chirping of various birds as we walked through the dense thin tall trees. When we looked above, it felt as though the trees had formed a roof overhead with their extended thick branches that were crowded with yellow and green leaves, the sky being barely visible. Nonetheless, the shimmering sun rays did manage to find their way through them and touch the ground.

"Ermm..Aren't there animals around?" I asked doubtfully, holding his hand tighter.

"Only harmless ones, I guess." he replied, clearing a twig off my way.

"You guess? What if we come face to face with a gorilla?" I enquired.

"Well, have you ever climbed a tree since the day you were born?"

"Yes. With a ladder."

"But here we don't have a ladder, so you gotta use your hands, legs or any part of your body that helps you climb a tree & reach the highest branch." he explained with a grave tone.

"Have you even the slightest clue that you're scaring the life out of my bones?"

"Ohh, wait, I've a simpler idea to deal with a gorilla!"

"What? Find another gorilla from the opposite gender?" I said, shaking my head.

"No. You & I can pretend to have a huge, really huge argument. The will make it shut its ears and run away. Simple." Drake shrugged.

That cracked me up. Both of us started to laugh. And then everything went silent when he pulled me towards him, my hands rested on his shoulders. I was dazed when my eyes locked with his hooded ones. My breaths quivered as he placed wet smooches all over my face. I arched my head backwards as he stared placing open mouthed kisses down my throat. I squirmed in his arms when he dug his face in the hollow of my neck. He ran the tip of his warm tongue across my collarbones making me gasp in arousal. He dropped warm kisses over my shoulders making my skin burn in desire...

And then he pressed his lips onto mine...I don't know for how long we kissed because our tongues kept on intertwining every now and then...I don't know for how long we stroked & caressed each other's lips, our saliva blended every now and then....

"I can't tell you how happy I feel that I'm with you here." I told him when our lips finally drew apart.

"I always wanted to have such kind of trip, just didn't find the right kind of companion until you." he said.

I threw my hands around him, hugging him tight. I felt his cozy arms wrapped around me as well.

"Does your heart beat that loud normally?" he whispered.

"No...this only happens whenever you are close, you're very close to me at this moment." I snuggled into his arms.

"I thought so." he whispered back, kissing my hair.

Our next stop was by the riverside. It was afternoon. Drake took the picnic basket while I carried the blanket and we stepped out of the car. I put my arm around his and rested my head over his shoulder as we walked on the short lane that led to the riverside.

Once we reached there, it was a sight to cherish. The cool breeze whipped our faces. The blue waters sparkled in the sun. There were coconut trees and also crimson colored plants on the lush green grass. Being a weekday, there were only few people who had come there and they were, well, busy in their own world if you know what I mean.

Drake & I found a secluded spot & spread out the blanket. We laid the paper plates, cups, napkins and finally I was getting to taste the pancakes he made for me.

"How is it????" he asked nervously when I took a bit.

Drake looked as though he had written an extremely difficult exam paper & was waiting for the results, hoping to pass.

"Full marks, I mean, this is damn yummy!" I said genuinely. It was very tasty, I tell ya!

"Really?" he was relieved.

"Yup. You have to teach me this, seriously!" I said, gorging some more.

He chuckled and started eating as well. After we were done with filling ourselves, we cleared everything properly. Drake lay down on the blanket with his head rested on my lap. We talked about school, football, video games, other random stuff and also about our future career plans.

"You're beautiful, Andrea." he said suddenly. His pupils dilated as he looked deeper into my eyes.

I bet color was rising onto my cheeks.

"You are blushing? Are you serious?" he sat bolt upright, looking very surprised.

"You know, when I joined school, I never ever thought I would spend a day like today with you." I said.

My heart beats rose when he held my hand, "Neither did I. But now, when I look back, I cherish everything that we had between us."

Drake said & he kissed each of my fingers making my heart flutter....

It was evening when we sat in our car again. The sky had turned pink & orange, the sun was preparing to set. It was dusk when we stopped by at a park. We sat on a bench, my hand in his.

"Um, you haven't told me anything about your past.." I trailed off.

He chuckled. I swear he didn't mean humor.

"My life wasn't that interesting." he said, "Tell me about yours! Didn't you ever have a boyfriend in your previous school?"

"Nope." I shook my head.

"Not even once?" he asked, amused.

"No. Not even once. No fling and all." I responded, "Actually, in my previous school, there was a boyband. I had a crush on the drummer of the band. He played very well & he was very cute. I thought I would approach him but what a rude shock I got when I got to know he was into the school's bad girl!"

"That's sad." he said.

Then there was silence. We didn't speak anything for a couple of minutes. Then I spoke,

"Uh, I know your past wasn't like how you would have wanted it to be. You had told me about your parents...I know you have been secretive about your life...I can only imagine the pain that you've gone through. If you want to share anything with me, maybe you will feel better...I'm sure your parents must have been really good people who loved you a lot."

I felt the warmth of his hand decreasing a bit..I didn't know whether I did the right thing in bringing this topic up. Drake let go of my hand when he spoke,

"My dad didn't love me, my mom did. My dad was a cop but he was a bad person. He had a clean reputation in police department though. He made my mom's & my life a living hell. The law wouldn't believe us cause everyone in the police were dad's good friends. My mum was weak & helpless, so we suffered silently.  All of this ended when both my parents were killed in a plane crash."

Drake tried to say all that in an emotionless manner but there was pain and bitterness in his voice which he just couldn't suppress.

My heart sank entirely.

"Oh Drake....I'm so sorry...I-I didn't realize.." I croaked.

"You don't have to say sorry, you had the right to know. Just don't ask about this again." he said.

I lowered my eyes out of guilt. We sat there without another word. The dead silence between us was suffocating me.

"Its getting late, shall we leave?" he asked.

I nodded silently.

It was after dusk when Drake winded up the car a few blocks away from my house.

I hugged him when we got out of the car.

"Thanks Drake, I had the best day of my life today." I said when we parted, "I think    I ruined it towards the end."

"You didn't, Andrea." he urged, "Don't think about it & upset yourself. I....I've moved on anyway."

"Good Night." he added, pecking my lips.

"Good Night." I said.

He sat in his car. I kept staring at his car until it was out of sight. Then, I turned and started walking towards my house.
