Chapter 31- The Truth Will Out

Chapter 31- The Truth Will Out

This was a bad idea.

A really bad idea.

Not only could Brody get in trouble with his dad, but he could wind up in jail, and well we know what would happen next. My mom would demand my separation from Brody. This was not time for carelessness.

“You don’t seem very happy about it.” He states eying me carefully.

“I’m not.” I admit. “It’s a disaster waiting to happen.”

“Not if we don’t get caught.”

“But I can’t take that risk.” I say in utter frustration.

He doesn’t even know about the deal I made with my mom. It will be the end of us…of our relationship. I can’t let that happen. We’ve worked too hard for what we’ve got.

Think Farrah. Think.

“Why not, tired of being bad?” He jokes.

I sigh and place my palm on my head debating my options. What am I going to do?

“Relax good girl. No one will know.” He laughs pulling out his phone.

Before he even has a chance to press a button I quickly grab it from his hands and put it down my shirt. There, now he can’t call anyone.

“It that suppose to stop me?” He smirks.

Won’t it? Maybe I didn’t think this through far enough. I didn’t think he go for it.

He’s a guy. You really didn’t think he would?

Just, as, he starts advancing on me, I run around the island counter to the other side opposite of him.

“Wait!” I shout holding up a finger. “Let me explain something first.”

Like I expected he ignores me and tries to come at me but luckily I dodge him and run to the opposite side. He wasn’t catching me today.

“No,  I like the chase.” He smirks then rounds the island again.

Well this obviously isn’t working. He’s enjoying this way too much. I have to find another way to get him to listen.

That’s when an idea hit me. I’ll use his phone as leverage. Then he’ll listen. I can’t tell him while he's chasing me around.

I quickly make my way to the sink and pull the phone out as I turn on the faucet. Yep this should work.

“What are you doing?” He asks cautiously.

“Making you listen.” I reply watching him carefully. “Not another step or the phone goes in.”

“You wouldn’t.” He states confidently.

“Oh wouldn’t I?” I smirk.

I turn my head to the running water and barely allow the phone slip through my fingers but quickly catch it when Brody shouts for me to stop.

“Listening now?” I ask.

“Fine, what is it?” He asks sharply.

I thought that might work. I love being right. Gives one a bit of smugness, don’t you think?

I smile evilly and help the phone firmly in place in case he tries something fast. This way I’ll be prepared for whatever he tries.

“As much as you’d like to defy your parents I hope you’ll think of another way once you hear me out.” I say.

“And why would I do that?” He asks.

“Because you’ll have to make a choice. It’s me or this party.”

“You’re making me choose?” He asks a bit taken back.  I suppose he wasn’t expecting that.

I shake my head before correcting him. “No. My mom is.”

I can tell I’ve lost him now.

“Your mom?”

I sigh before going into the explanation. “A couple of weeks ago at the cabin my mom confronted me about you. She tried to make me break it off with you then, but I refused and offered to make a deal instead.”

“But why would she want us to break up?”

I knew this was going to come out as some point, but I didn’t think it would be now. I guess he deserved to know the truth though, however inconvenient it may be.

I finally take in a deep breath and prepare to tell him everything.

“Your background. Someone told my mom some told my mom some very unpleasant things about you so she started digging for information.”

He took a voluntary step back and plopped himself down on the stool behind him. “So she checked up on me.”

“She did.” I confirm. “But she was doing it on my best interest. However I had convinced her you had changed for the better and begged her to give me the chance to show her that. However, if I can’t prove it…we have no choice but to be over.”

As hard as it was to think about that I knew it was true. It’s something that could ruin whatever we had. I wouldn’t have made that deal with her if it wasn’t my only option. Otherwise, I would have had to end it right there.

“Why would you make a deal like that Are you that confident I have changed?” He asks almost surprised.

“I am.” I nod.

“Well I’m not. I don’t know what I will do from one day to the next. I can only take it one day at a time. Who knows what will happen tomorrow?”

The vulnerability in his eye made me want to reach out to him. I need to reassure him and make him feel better. How could someone believe in themselves when no one else did either?

I lay his phone aside and turn off the water before going to stand next to him. I placed my hand on top of his if comforting manner. I just hope he accepts it.

“I do. You’ll be here with me enjoying this rare weekend alone together. Let’s take advantage of what has been given to us. You don’t have to go through every day alone. I’ll help you. You’ve been doing excellent so far.” I say softly.

You know those moments when you feel as if you’ve made a breakthrough with someone and they suddenly realize that what you’ve been saying is the truth? Then after that comes the incredibly sweet and/or romantic moment that make it even more special?

Well that didn’t happen. Instead, I was receiving a highly guilty look from the former bad boy. That was not something I liked to see at a moment like this. Guilty is never good.

“Well that’s not entirely true.” He admits.

“Uh huh. Tell me more.” I say warily.

He moves slightly in his seat not breaking his eyes from mine.“Remember the night that Travis and Thomas got into that fight?”

“Yeah.” I answer slowly.

“Well the reason I didn’t come to your house wasn’t only because I stayed so late at the station. It waited for Milton to be released.” He says shamefully.

“What are you trying to say exactly?”

I had a feeling I already knew I didn’t want to assume anything. He deserved the benefit of a doubt. It might not be as serious as I thought.

“After he walked out of the station we had a slight altercation. He wanted a fight with me not Thomas, so that’s what I gave him. I threw the first punch.”

Or maybe it was. Looks as if I might be wrong about him after all.

“Were you arrested?”

He runs a hand through his dark hair and shakes his head. “No. Thomas’s brother let me off with a warning. We go back.”

Of course,  they do. They would be expected of someone who was in and out of the police station as often as he claimed to be.

Either way the fact is he still started a fight with someone. Could I forgive that?

“And was anyone hurt?” I ask.

“Not much.” He shrugs. “Just a few bruises and a black eye.”

He acts as if it’s nothing. Well I guess to him it is. I imagine he’s been in worse fights.

“Well at least you told me the truth even if it is was delayed. Now we can move past this.”

I took it by his silence and the look on his face that there was more. There was something else he was had been hiding from me.

“You didn’t kill him did you?” I say a little too quickly before I could stop myself.

Instead of getting upset like I thought he would at my outburst he looked amused.

“No. I got something more out of it.” He smiles.

Ok I’m not expert in regret, but I’m pretty sure you shouldn’t be smiling when you admit to what you’ve done.

“Do I want to know?” I ask.

He then plasters a smirk on his face and pulls a set of keys from his jacket pocket on the back of the stool and giggles them in front of me.

“I took his bike.”

He stole someone else’s property? He could get thrown in jail. Is he crazy? He sure likes to live dangerously.

“That’s grand theft auto.” I state.

“Don’t worry. I’ll give it back.” He chuckles then adds, “Right after I do some damage first.”

My eyes grew in size at his words and I began frantically shaking my head.  “No. Brody you have to give it back. He probably has already reported it missing.”

He gets up from his seat and throws on his black leather jacket that adds to his bad boy vibe and walks to the door.

“Oh I wouldn’t worry about that. I’ve got enough on him to make him pay if he did.” He smirks.

Great. Just great. Since being together, my bad boy has started a fight, committed grand theft auto and currently black mailing someone. Maybe I don’t know him as well as I thought I did.

“You wanna go for a ride?” He asks opening the door.

“A ride?” I ask in disbelief. “Now?”

Then I realized what he meant by that and felt panicked again. “Wait a minute. You have it here don’t you?”

“Maybe.” He smiles. “Come see for yourself.”

With that,  he walks out the door and to the side of the house with me following closely behind him. What has gotten in to him? I mean I know he hates Travis Milton but isn’t this a little above and beyond hate?

As the garage,  we didn’t park in, came into sight he presses a button on his key chain to get it to open. Shortly after dark red bike came into view revealing what Brody said was the truth. This was not his bike. His was black not red. And now I’m accessory to a crime.

Great, this weekend just keeps getting better and better.

“So how about it, are you coming along? You should have some fun. You know, live while we’re young and all that?” He grins.

Gosh he’s so hot when he does that. His bad boy side was shining with a bright light and despite the trouble I knew he was I wanted him…bad.

What is it about bad boys that drive you so crazy? It’s as if you gotta have them or you can’t function. And right now that was the case.

He spun the keys easily on his finger while wearing that sexy smirk and looking at me with those bown eyes that I just couldn't resist.

“What’s it going to be Bryant? You gonna remain a good girl forever?” He taunts.

Well it is just one ride. And I suppose a quick one won’t hurt anything. Plus that means I get to hold on to Brody, and that was never a bad thing.

So what’s it going to be? Bad boy with a bike or my good girl image? Which do I want more? The bad boy with a bike does sound like more fun.

The sound of the bike being started interrupted my thoughts and Brody now stood sat in front of me waiting for my decision.

Oh I so desperately want to go, but I was also afraid at the same time. What if this puts me on the road to becoming bad? Will I lose who I truly am to the bad boy? Would it be worth it?

I suppose there is only one way to find out.

I took the helmet Brody was holding out to me and placed it on my head before hoping on the back of the bike. My arms wound tightly around him before he kicked the stand, and we were off.

Yep this was going to be fun.
