Chapter 8
The way Lui and Marcel had talked about Evan, it was like he had purposely done something awful to them. Like he killed their dog or something.
I know I should believe them when they say how much of a dick he is, but from the little I know about him, he seems nice. Then again, this is only my second day, maybe it's all a trick.
But what could he gain by tricking the new kid? Because it's obvious that Lui and Marcel will never trust him in a million years. And if they don't, then I won't either.
So, Evan is the bad guy, what would be his ulterior motive? Use me to get to my friends? Nah, doesn't sound like him, and Lui and Marcel would never let that happen.
I swear, Evan will be the death of me.
--------
"Evan! Just answer the question and I'll leave you alone! I promise!" Craig pleaded as he followed Evan into the cafeteria, still pestering him about the new kid.
"Craig, I will shove your head so far up your ass it will be more than just a hat."
"Aw, come on, Ev. Don't be that way, I'm your friend! You know you wanna answer the question."
Evan turned to Tyler and asked in a low voice, "Was he smoking weed earlier?" His voice was completely serious, Craig was usually not this persistent with Evan. He was always too scared of him.
Tyler chuckled and shook his head, "I wish, he's just a little crazy today."
Evan suddenly felt Craig poke him in the arm repeatedly. "Why are you so stubborn? You used to be fun, remember? Back when the whole gang was together, before-" Craig whined, only to be cut off by Evan.
Evan spun around, grabbed Craig's collar and shoved him against the wall, a sudden rush of anger washing over him. "Shut. The. Fuck. Up." He snarled, venom dropping off his every word.
Craig smirked, feeling a little scared, but also adventurous. So he pushed farther, ignoring his friends, who were behind Evan signaling for Craig to stop. "Looks like I finally struck a nerve. What are you gonna do, hit me?"
Evan felt conflicted, on one hand, he really wanted to hit Craig, on the other hand, he knew that he just wanted to annoy him. Evan took a deep breath, releasing his collar. "You're my friend, I'm not gonna hit you. Not going to hit you." He told himself, backing away, trying to calm down.
The group of kids that had gathered to watch now dispersed, seeing as there was not going to be a fight after all.
"Yeah, because you can't afford to lose anymore friends. I mean, after all, who else is going to put up with you?" Craig shot back as he saw Evan was leaving. Suddenly, Evan froze, his anger coming back.
"Craig, you're so screwed." David whispered quietly, backing away from the two boys slowly, the rest of his friends doing the same.
The next thing they knew, Evan was in front of Craig and punched him square in the jaw. Hard. Craig crumpled to the floor, holding his jaw in pain.
"Fuck you!" Was all Evan said as he stormed out of the cafeteria, flipping Craig off just before he exited. It was obvious he was still seething with rage.
Once he was gone, the guys rushed to Craig's side, concerned and pissed off.
"Are you ok?" Craig nodded at Tyler, answering his question. "Good. Now what the hell is wrong with you?! Evan was in a good mood this morning, but you went and fucked it up!"
"It's not my fault he decided to be a prick and not answer my question."
"It doesn't matter, Mini. If he wasn't comfortable answering the question, then you should have left him alone! Now he's gonna be pissed at us!" Brock scolded, helping Craig to their table.
The crowd that had formed was still in shock at what happened, they hadn't seen Evan that mad in a while.
Craig sat down slowly. "That really fucking hurt! Why did he hit me so hard?"
"Because you pissed him off, you stupid bitch." Brian replied sarcastically. "Of course he was gonna hit you! Are you on drugs or something? I thought you were scared of him."
"No, no drugs. I just feel really pumped to do something crazy! " Craig said excitedly, only to hold his jaw in pain. "Maybe later though, my jaw still hurts."
The guys looked at each other, Craig had to have been on something, but they just shrugged. "I'm pretty sure Evan is still going to be pissed later, I'll text him, make sure he's ok." Tyler said, taking out his phone as the entire crowd seemed to finally disperse, throwing cautious glances at the group's table and the entrance in case Evan returned.
It was hilarious when they scrambled towards the back wall when Jonathan and his friends walked in, extremely confused by what was going on.
----------
With his backpack thrown over his shoulder, Evan stormed out of the school, not even noticing Jonathan and his friends watching him in confusion.
He thought that if he left the school, he could calm down, but Evan still felt furious. He wanted, no needed to punch something, anything. So, without looking at what was around him, he punched the closet thing possible. Which happened to be a tree.
Evan looked down at his hand, his knuckles weren't bloody, but they were definitely going to bruise, but he was still mad. So he punched the tree again. And again. And again, until his knuckles were bloody and he felt calm. He knew he had probably broke his hand, but the adrenaline from the punches was dulling the pain.
And even though he definitely going to regret that later, Evan felt a lot calmer, still pissed at his friends, but no to the point where he would so something crazy.
I need a drink, Evan thought as he continued on his way home. The thought of dulling his senses for a little bit with the bitter liquid sounded like bliss right about now, he could even taste it.
But first he had to get home.
----------
"Ok, I'll bite. What happened?" Lui asked some kid Jonathan didn't recognize. They had just arrived at the cafeteria and had yet to discover what happened.
"Well, Craig had been bugging Evan all day for some reason, no one knows why. Then when they got here, Craig started poking him and then he said something which got Evan really mad so he shoved him against the wall, I thought they were gonna fight until Evan let go of him. He started backing away until Craig said something else, I still couldn't hear him. And that's when Evan rushed over to Craig and punched him, like really hard. Then he left." The kid explained.
Lui nodded, leading the other two boys back towards their table. "Wonder what Craig said to make Evan so mad. I could've swore he's scared of him." Lui said thoughtfully, turning to Marcel to see what he thought.
"I don't know, like you said, Craig is scared of Evan. The only way he would purposely make him mad like that was if he was drunk or high. And I don't think he was either." Marcel said, replying to Lui.
Jonathan stayed out of his friend's conversation, he didn't even know Craig all that well. All he knew was that he was Evans's friend.
And he had his own problems to worry about, it was his second day here and there was already trouble brewing.
It was not going to be an easy school year.
