Chapter 27

Oh, if only I knew of the things that go on in Evan's head. I wish I could be a part of them.

Because they probably involved murdering both Craig and Lui. Two of the biggest backstabbers I know, the only two I know actually.

Who thinks to themselves, let's get someone else to help me wrong a person who didn't even wrong me in the first place? Who the fuck does that? Apparently, it's the two people in front of me.

I can't stay here, it's not worth it. I should not be here with two scumbags, I should be begging for Evan's real friends to just forgive me. I didn't mean to hurt him, I really didn't mean to.

"You're fucking disgusting." I said, abruptly standing up. "You, especially. You told me you wouldn't tell anybody." I turned to Craig.

Craig glared up at me from where he was sat. "Yeah, I know. I didn't tell anyone anything, but you making out with someone against a locker and Evan running away said more than anything I could've told people. Technically, I didn't tell anyone, Jon, you just think I did, because that's what's making all this easier for you to deal with. And that's not my problem."

I groan out of frustration, catching the attention of a couple of neighboring tables. I sit down again, closer to Craig, looking him dead in the eyes with the coldest look I could muster. "Was it worth it, Craig? Huh? Was it fucking worth it to ruin someone who did absolutely nothing to you?" My gaze never falls. "Does it make you feel better to know how badly you hurt someone who has never once hurt you?"

"But, he did hurt me." Craig rolled his eyes before looking down at the table, rubbing softly at his jaw. "He punched me."

Jonathan huffed. "At least someone did." And he walked away.

"Please," Jonathan begged as Tyler stared into his locker, avoiding looking at him. The rest of the boys beside him just glared. Evan wasn't there, to no one's surprise. "I didn't mean to hurt him, I promise you. I'll get on my knees if you want me to, I don't care, I'm sorry!" Jonathan says, pleading with Evan's friend. The only way he could get to Evan, was if Tyler let him. "I'm so sorry."

It had been a week.

Tyler had never thought Evan could care so much about something, about someone.

He shut his locker. "I don't see you proving it."

----

It's been a week, Evan figures he's been miserable long enough. He can't just stay under his blanket for the rest of his life. He had to move on, as hard as it seemed.

Jonathan already had, it seemed.

His feet hit the floor of his room, and he feels a rush of light-headedness as he stood up, gripping his bed sheets and screwing his eyes shut. His stomach growled so loudly, he felt weak with hunger.

Evan's phone buzzed. All he wanted was to throw it against the wall. All the things he had done with that phone haunted him.

His conversations with Jonathan, praising him and complimenting him. Joking with him and sharing funny photos. The pictures of the two together he had created a separate album in his phone for. Would it really be so bad if he just smashed it into a billion pieces just like he wanted to? Would it really? He just ignores it, stumbling out of his room and making his way downstairs.

Just his luck, there's no food, so he just settles for water, figuring he'll have to text Tyler to bring him something. In the meantime, he walks back up to his room. He needs to shower, he has to lighten his mood, he heard that showering does that.

Evan: Tyler, can you bring me some food? Please?

Tyler: all you had to do is ask, Ev, how ya feeling?

Evan: better, I guess, I'm gonna take a shower, you can just let yourself in

Tyler: I'll be there in five minutes

Evan: thank you, Tyler, I'm so lucky to have you as a friend

Tyler: ew don't pull ur gay crap on me (jk it's np bro)

------

Evan had already showered, drying his hair as best as he could with a towel before stepping outside of the bathroom, dressed in comfortable clothes, but a bit dressier than just sleeping wear. He yawns, realizing he hadn't been sleeping properly, either. His stomach growls, smelling the food from downstairs.

As soon as he's downstairs, he walks into the kitchen, not expecting the group hug he receives as he realizes that all of his friends are there, not just Tyler. A whole buffet of fast food had been set up on the kitchen table, Evan can't help but think of Jonathan. It didn't last long enough.

"Glad to see you feeling better, Evan." Tyler smiles, deciding against telling the boy about how Jonathan was begging for forgiveness earlier. They had all decided it would be better if they didn't. "Eat whatever you want." Evan smiled.

A few minutes later, everyone is situated on the couch with plates of food, Evan obviously has the most. He hadn't eaten for the longest amount of time. They were watching anime, per David's request, which meant they were cracking jokes every few seconds.

"How is she not uncomfortable with the way he's staring at her boobs? Also, why the hell are they so big? Japan has some weird shit." Tyler said, referring to the two characters that were on the screen.

"That dude is kinda hot, not gonna lie." Evan said, his eyes locked on the obviously straight character, whose eyes were most definitely on the girl in front of him. "Too bad he's straight, and animated." He eats a fry.

"You two would make a great couple, honestly." Brock said, looking between Evan and the character on screen. "But low-key, you're out of his league."

"True." Tyler said, looking between the screen and Evan.

"Oh, I forgot!" David said, catching everyone's attention. "I brought alcohol!"

"You're not allowed to drink any." Evan immediately said, confusing everyone for a second. "I don't want you making out with me anymore."

"Woah, wait, that's what happened? That's why Lui hated you? Because David drunk-kissed you? That's a dick move, to be honest." Tyler said, and Evan realizes that no one had known why Lui hated him until now. Evan just nodded shyly, continuing to eat.

"And look where I am now, I'm eating my feelings. David, I feel bad for whoever marries you, I can't wait to see where they end up in a few years." Evan jokes. David fake pouts as he stands up to get the alcohol.

Evan's phone rings, no one thinks anything of it, since they haven't been bothered so far. He puts his plate on the coffee table and picks it up.

"Hello?" He says, his voice sounding kinda distant as he watches the anime in front of him, trying to read the subtitles.

"Holy shit, you actually answered." Evan froze, beginning to panic as he realized who was on the other end.

"L-Lui." As soon as he says it, the whole room goes quiet, all watching as Evan struggles to find something to say. "What do you want?" He didn't mean to sound so harsh, but the way everyone else looked, he assumed it was the right tone to use.

"Evan, I'm really sorry. About everything. I didn't mean for this all to happen." Evan grows angry at that, the way Lui made it sound like he had never even hated him until the first place. "I didn't realize that you were telling the truth when it happened."

"Why would I lie to you?" He stared at the paused TV screen as he grew more angry.

"I just thought, I don't know, Evan. But, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-"

"What the fuck do you mean by you didn't mean for this all to happen? Or did you just not mean for everyone to find out? You thought that once we were even, no one was gonna fucking know?" The guys honestly didn't expect him to sound so angry, but he really hadn't had a one on one conversation with Lui in years. "What the fuck are you sorry for?"

"You know-"

"No, I don't fucking know, actually. Are you sorry for being a complete dickhead? For fucking with Craig's head and making him your dog?" Evan swallowed. "That must be it, because I'm sure you're not sorry for fucking up my life."

He hangs up without another word.
