Chapter 20

I walked into detention, immediately spotting him in his regular seat, an empty desk in between him and me, as it usually was.

Except Tyler decided to sit there. Somehow, him being there made me feel worse. I didn't want him here, I still don't want him here.

No one is supposed to know about here.

While Tyler became interested in his phone, I looked at Jonathan, a desperate plea in my eyes, he had one of his own.

His eyes so blue it's most likely criminal, his lips curved into a half-smile, teasing me. I just wanted to pull him close to me, to close that gap between us, to kiss him like I had done a few weeks ago.

Tyler was ruining that.

I sadly looked away from Jonathan, who was still smiling at me, putting my head down.

Everyone else who filed in saw me, I could feel their eyes on me, I knew they were all wondering.

Somehow, I am going to make this work.

I glanced at Jonathan for a quick second, he still had that stupid smile on his face.

This has to work.

---------

Jonathan saw that Evan was not happy about Tyler being there, but I he was confident that it was all going to work out.

The teacher fell asleep a bit early, meaning that Evan was out the door faster than ever. Jonathan barely managed to keep up.

"Go to the roof, I'll try to meet you, but if I can't I'll text you, okay?" Evan said to him quietly as he stayed near the door to wait for Tyler. Jonathan nodded, waving bye and walking off to the roof stairs.

---

He was waiting for about fifteen minutes when Evan came panting through the door, holding his side.

"Woah, you good?" Jonathan asked with a small giggle.

"Not funny." Evan breathed painfully. "You have no idea how hard it was to lose Tyler."

The two hugged after a few more minutes, allowing Evan to catch his breath.

Much like before, they kissed once, it was brief, yet sweet and sincere.

Also like before, they leaned in for another one.

-

"I'm hungry." Jonathan complained as they sat against the wall, his head on Evan's shoulder.

"Me too." Evan replied, his voice barely above a whisper. "Wow, that voice crack." He joked, trying to cover up what he said.

"Let's go get food." Jonathan tried to stand, but Evan refused to let him.

"No, we can get food later, let's just stay like this. This is nice, I like this." Evan looked at the sky, the sun's light fading into a soft shade of pink, purple, and indigo.

Jonathan sneakily pulled out his phone, flipping it to selfie mode and taking a picture of him and Evan.

Evan blinked once he realized what had happened. "Did you just take a picture of us?" He looked at Jonathan's phone screen.

"Yeah I did." He held up the camera again, landscape style, except this time they posed.

"Send that to me." Evan said as they cuddled closer together, looking at the picture. "You look great."

"So do you." Jonathan said truthfully, not seeing the small frown that appeared on Evan's face when he said that since it disappeared within nano-seconds.

They ended up taking pictures and cuddling for the rest of the time, deciding which ones would be good home-screens and lock-screens before they realized that they couldn't. Because none of their friends could know about this.

"I wish Lui didn't hate me." Evan admitted, staring at the picture him and Jonathan had took; Jonathan was kissing his cheek as he smiled.

Jonathan bit his tongue to avoid asking about what had happened between the two, things were good between him and Evan, he didn't want to ruin that. But he agreed by pressing a kiss to his jawline. "Me too." He said, looking up at him.

Evan glanced at the time. "Detention ended half an hour ago. Oh well." He said, scooting closer to the boy next to him.

"Evan?"

"Yeah?"

"I'm still hungry."

-

"Alright, one at a time, okay? Tyler might be waiting for me somewhere, knowing him." The were stood at the entrance to the stair-house.

-

"Tyler! What the hell?" Evan hissed as his friend pulled him into the bathroom, the only light coming from Tyler's phone.

"What were you doing on the roof?" Tyler pressed Evan against the wall, gripping his arms tightly.

"Nothing, I was just hanging out." Evan said, hoping his voice didn't give anything away.

"With Jonathan?" Tyler accused, pushing his friend harder against the wall.

"W-why do you think I was with Jonathan?" Evan did not want to freak out right now.

"Because neither of you came to class and you looked oddly suspicious walking by yourself."

"People walk by themselves, Tyler." He pushed him off. "And I was just talking with Jonathan, alright? We're friends, sue me!"

"Evan that's not a good idea. He's close with Lui, and right now, Lui hates your guts. So, until that clears up, any connection you have with Jonathan is dangerous. The more he knows about you, the more Lui knows, too."

"Whatever." Evan brushed past Tyler angrily, taking off down the hallway and exiting through the nearest set of doors he could find.

-

"Evan!" Jonathan hugged the boy as soon as he saw him walking down the sidewalk. "What happened to you?"

"Tyler." Evan replied simply, looking around before giving him a quick kiss. "Are you still hungry?"

Jonathan slipped his hand into Evan's, smiling. "Of course."
