Chapter 18
Thanks for over 5k guys, love you <3
----
My heart was racing, blood was pumping, and although I couldn't really recognize what was happening I knew that later I was going to remember every detail.
So I closed my eyes and enjoyed the moment.
-----
PE was good. In Jonathan's opinion. Well, more like Lui's opinion, and Jonathan was his friend, so it was his opinion too.
Evan and his friends had been on the bleachers for the most part, just hanging out, although Jonathan knew they were up there to keep Evan company as he slept. He shouldn't be, but he was worried. For as long as he had been going to school there, Evan had never once been too miserable for PE. It was possibly his best subject, if that was even possible.
Stop that, Jonathan told himself as he thought more about it. Instead, he focused on changing and getting out of the locker room.
On his way out, he saw Evan with his friends, tiredly smiling at a joke one of them had said.
"Shut up." The teen said playfully as he walked by, glancing at Jonathan quickly before turning away.
----
Last period was quite boring, they took notes, worked on vocabulary, and everything was pretty quiet.
"Ugh, I'm so bored." Evan mumbled to himself, music blasting through one earbud while the other hung loosely in the air, brushing up against the front of his shirt, phone tucked inside the front pocket of his jeans.
He sat back in his seat, his completed notes laid out in front of him, all written in neat handwriting, printed in black ink. He glanced around the room, where everyone else was dutifully working on their vocabulary, switching between their laptops and notebooks. Of course, he was done already.
He stretched out his arm carefully, glad to finally have the cast off so he could write properly once more.
Opening his binder, he ripped a piece of filler paper from the three rings, too lazy to open it up.
He folded it into a paper airplane without thinking, tossing it at Lui's head, or at least that general direction.
Bulls-eye. Evan thought to himself as he returned his attention to his open binder as Lui turned around, his pencil in hand. He began to scribble lines of nothing, random words and letters as he glanced at his powered off laptop.
Lui tilted his head curiously, but shrugged and turned around. He slid the paper craft over to Jonathan.
"Dude, write 'fuck' on the inside and throw it." He whispered with a smile, obviously joking.
"Okay." Jonathan unfolded the craft, picking up his pen and proceeding to write 'fuck you' on the inside. He folded it once again, writing a small note that said 'open me' on the right wing as well. He glanced around the room cautiously before shutting his eyes and throwing it behind him as hard as he could.
He hadn't realized that the teacher had gotten out of his chair to help someone while he had been writing on the plane.
Oh, but he noticed the teacher furiously pick it up, opening it and silently read it to himself. He was furious. "Who wrote this?" He held up the unfolded plane and looked around the room, his gaze lingered on Jonathan's table.
Slowly, he raised his hand. "I wrote it, but I didn't make the plane, I swear." He confessed, too guilty to even attempt to lie.
He squinted his eyes, turning to the class once more. "So who made this?" He demanded, glaring around accusingly.
Evan wanted to stay quiet, it's what he usually would do, but he didn't want Jonathan to just get in trouble because of him, so he spoke up.
"I did." He stood up with pride. He shrugged. "I got bored."
"Did you even finish your work?" The teacher asked him, deciding to deal with Jonathan afterwards.
Evan nodded. "I've been done for half an hour, people get bored, you know. This isn't the most interesting class." He spoke sarcastically, which he realized was a mistake.
"Detention. Both of you." He barked, gesturing for them to sit down.
--
"Detention, you got fucking detention?" Tyler was bewildered as Evan explained what had happened. The two were stood in front of Evan's locker, Evan moving a few things inside and also putting a few in his bag.
"Yes, I got detention, is there a problem?" He asked, bored as he picked up one last book and shoved it inside his bag.
"Actually, yeah there is, dumbass. We were meeting at the skate park remember?" Tyler said as Evan shut the locker, now turning to him as he leaned against it.
"Well, obviously, I can't make it, I'll see you tomorrow." Evan spoke dismissively as he turned away from his friend and began to walk away.
--
Jonathan felt anxious as he walked into the classroom, immediately noticing Evan in the back of the class, the rest of the students sat nearer to the front.
Besides the students, the teacher looked equally as bored as she scrolled through her phone, yawning silently. Looking around the room, he became self-conscious with worry about where he was going to sit.
Cautiously, he laid his things a desk away from Evan, sending wary glances his way every few seconds.
"I don't bite." Evan mumbled underneath his breath at Jonathan, his eyes glued to the bright screen of his cracked phone.
The other students glanced back as the teen spoke, switching between him and Jonathan a couple of times before returning to whatever it was they were doing.
"Fifteen minutes." Evan hissed at the guy in front of him, quiet enough so that the teacher didn't hear. He nodded without turning back, spreading the message to everyone else.
"Fifteen minutes." Spread throughout the room like wildfire, and everyone's eyes stayed glued to the clock.
A wire went from Evan's bag to his phone, no doubt he was charging it via his laptop, he slumped against the back of his chair much like how his backpack slumped against his leg. He had a small half-smile glued upon his lips, and Jonathan felt confusion begin to suffocate him.
His foot silently tapped against the ground, the clock's ticks became in time with his heartbeat, and his eyes didn't know where it was safe to rest. Arms folded neatly in front of him, he slumped forward to seem as small as possible.
--
Evan watched the teacher, his eyes following her every movement, he held onto each breath as if it was his own, waiting for it to slow, her shoulders to hunch forward as her head slumped against the desk. Once she was asleep for a few minutes, he stood up, stashing his phone in his bag.
He walked out of the class, hearing everyone else follow behind him.
The teen waited outside the classroom for Jonathan, who looked scared as he filed out of the class. Evan grabbed his arm and began to drag him towards a set of doors.
"Come on." Was all he said, not even letting the boy decide for himself.
"Where are we going?" Jonathan asked as they reached a set of stairs. He blindly followed, too afraid to stray with the risk of getting caught.
"The roof." Evan answered simply, smirking to himself, Jonathan nearly stopped in his tracks and ran back down, but the fear of getting caught alone really got to him, so he stayed.
There was also the fact that he was beginning to trust him.
-
Going through another set of doors, the pair ended up on the roof. Evan dropped his bag off near the door, walking to the edge and leaning against it.
Cautiously, Jonathan followed him.
They were currently facing the back lot behind the school, shoulders brushing against each other.
"I do this every detention." Evan breathed, glancing at Jonathan, who shyly turned away from him.
"It's certainly relaxing." Jonathan agreed, feeling his cheeks begin to heat up. He never realized how nervous Evan made him.
"Yeah, it really is." Evan got closer to him, wrapping an arm around his shoulders, pulling him closer.
Jonathan turned to look at Evan, suddenly realizing how close their faces were.
He also realized how soft Evan's lips were as they connected with his own.
