25 -END-

"Hazel?" He arches his eyebrow at me and cranes his neck down so his face is close to mine. He stays like that for a moment. "I like you little bird."
"Stay away!" Christian shouts from behind. "Stay away from her Christopher!"
"Why are you yelling like that when you are about to die brother? I can do anything after you are gone." Christopher says and grabs my neck with his shoulder.
Even though his grip is lose my body tenses at his touch. He is like an unending nightmare. "Please call the ambulance!" I mutter to him, begging.
"Are you that stupid or you're just new to this stuff? I am the one who made him cough blood. Why do you think I did that?" He lets go of my neck and grabs my head from behind.
"Because I want him to die. Do you understand?" I shiver as he speaks slowly near my ear. My lips can't hold it any longer and I let out everything I was holding in. My heart feels like it's getting rolled over by a roller. Eyes sting as tears keep coming out like a forced water stream. "Don't do this." I speak my voice shaking. "Please."
Is this the best you can do?
Begging?
Like you begged to the doctors at the hospital to save the people you loved?
That time nothing was in your control.
It's different this time. You can save him.
Don't let fear swallow the person you hold dear.
I sense his grip loosening even more and take that opportunity to jerk away his hand and free myself from him.
I don't waste time and run to the kitchen giving Christopher no opportunity to catch me. Opening the first drawer to the left I pull out a huge kitchen knife and head back. I have to stay strong. I can do this.
"Stay away." I say pointing the knife at Christopher as I slowly pull out my phone.
"Ooo she has guts Chris." Christopher exclaims. "You've got good taste in woman bro."
I glance at Leah who is as scared as I am and a pang of guilt hits my heart. What did she do to deserve this? She's suffering because of me. I shoot her an apologetic look and about to dial when-
Suddenly I feel his hands gripping my neck with force. It's much more intense. I gasp for air as he tightens his grip. I try to stab him with the knife in my hand but before I can do that it falls from my hand.
Damn it.
Why am I always so helpless?
"That's enough Chris."
A voice quite similar to Christian suddenly says freezing Christopher at his core. His eyes widen as he stares behind me shockingly.
His grip loosens but it isn't weak enough for me to break free. Who is it?
"It can't be." Christopher whispers before letting me go. My body slumps down, weakness surrounds me. Gasping for air I breathe deeply, relieved.
It's when my breathing returns to normal and my body finds the strength to get up I slowly stand up feeling a silent presence behind me. It's the owner of that voice which saved me. I just know it.
The person I'm met with looks like an older version of Christian. His hooded eyes and grey hair makes him look tired. He is about Christopher's height and his body is a bit bulged. "Hurry up." He says into the phone pulled out in his hand and four sturdy people rush inside.
They carry Christian outside and my legs automatically move forward. "Wait." A heavy hand on my shoulder stops me from moving.
His cold grey eyes keenly watch me as he stands inches away. My body freezes at his touch. Christian touches me too but it never scared me. It's different with Christopher and this guy.
"Are you the reason Christian has weakened?" He purses his lips dwelling into deep thoughts.
Weakened? What does that mean?
I silently watch as those men put Christian who has fallen unconscious, in the car. I feel relieved a bit but the desire to be with him at this moment strongly remains in my heart.
"Answer me girl." The old guy says shaking my shoulder.
"Who are you?" I say. My shoulder aches because of the unnecessary pressure he is putting on it. "No one asks me back. Just answer. Who are you?" He says gritting his teeth.
"I'm Hazel. His friend. Classmate." I realize I'm not speaking but whispering. His eyes narrow suspiciously at me for a long minute before he lets my shoulder go.
"Hazel." He repeats. "Whatever you are to him you need to stop associating with him." He says looking at his watch.
"Why?" I don't understand. What does it mean that Christian has weakened?
"You talk a lot." He mutters "Let me shut you up first."
Before I can react or even blink something sharp gets injected into my skin and almost immediately my head starts spinning followed by darkness which covers my eyes and the last thing I see are his footsteps as he marches out of the house.
***
"April are you okay?" The moment I open my heavy eyelids Leah asks.
My head feels heavy as if someone has put some weight on it. I nod looking around and realize it's her house. We're at Leah's place.
"I'm okay. Just a little sleepy." I mumble rubbing my temple.
"You're still sleepy? Just how strong that injection was?" Leah says shock clear on her face.
"What do you mean? Stop scaring me." My voice cracks. What? How many days was I sleeping? a week? No that's not possible right?
"It's been straight two days April."
Oh that's better than what I was expecting.
"Oh," suddenly panic kicks in as I remember about him. "How is Christian?" Please tell me he is alive.
The way Leah sighs bothers me. "I have no idea April." She mutters avoiding looking at me.
"Are you hiding something from me Lee?" I ask holding her hand. I know her enough to know when she's lying. It includes the fact that she can't lie to me.
"April...Austin is here and he revealed something." Leah says looking down.
"Austin? What did he say? What's this all about?" I ask shaking her vigorously.
"It's better that you hear it from him directly. I can't say it to you." Leah says as she gives me a sad look.
"April." I see Austin standing at the door. So much happened and now you decide to show up. Wow brother.
"I am so glad nothing bad happened to you." He sits beside me and Leah gets up.
"I don't need that from you. I know how much you care. Just spill whatever you told Leah and leave." I snap. I don't need a brother who doesn't even trust his own sister.
"Okay. I know why you hate me. It's because I acted strictly and made you live with Christian. That monster." He spits anger making the muscles on his face tense.
"He's not a monster! He is way better than you Austin!" I shout letting anger consume me.
"It's okay. You'll change your mind when I'll tell you a little about him." Austin pauses making me look at him.
"About how he and the accident which killed our mother and Logan are connected." He says serious with serious expressions on his face.
Something inside me shakes. A part of mind wants to run away. Some part of my heart doesn't want to hear it. It feels like I'm about to get caught into a huge emotional typhoon. If I hear this I'll never be able to come back to who I am right now. I'm sure of it.
Is this what you feel when you realize everything is about to end?
