Christian
Emily.
At the mention of her name my heart feels stabbed over and over. My entire life I had walked by her side. She was everything colorful and bright in my life. Even when I was treated differently by my family. I was an outcast at the age of five and since then she had never let go of my hand, she always smiled so sweetly at me as if I was someone special. She gave me everything I longed for Love, friendship, laughter, happiness, everything. She was more like a best friend than a girlfriend to me.
But then, she came to know my brother Christopher, I call him Satan's son. He destroyed her just because she was close to me. Just to hurt me. That's why I despise him. Not just him, but everyone in this family. That's why I didn't use their name McDermott ever. He was five years older than me and a prodigy in the family. His intelligence was something everyone was proud of, they literally worshiped him because he brought prosperity to the business.
McDermott's business did not mean a normal business. My great grand father started smuggling and distribution if heroin when he was eighteen influenced by his friends. His interest in smuggling was something which made him a famous smuggler in underworld in just five years. I don't know where he met my great grandmother but together they created a generation of devils which included my grandfather Charles McDermott and his brother Christian. Yes I was named after him for some unknown reason. Then both of them extended their father's business even more by hiring people for doing their shitty work so they can deal with bigger smugglers.
Christian McDermott didn't have any children so my grandfather's child, my father, Carlos McDermott aka Satan was like a son to him. My father on the other hand wasn't someone who deserved so much love and appreciation.
After that came Christopher, a boy who was loved, cherished and raised in the best way possible. Everyone including my great grandfather loved him to no end.
"I'm sorry."
My thoughts are stopped by a gentle voice. I look at her again, her hazel eyes seems on the verge of crying and her glossy lips are pressed tightly on each other. Hazel, that's what I call her and she doesn't seem to mind.
Her name is April. The girl with the most beautiful Hazel eyes. I first saw her at school, at a boring biology class when the teacher whatever her name is assigned her as my tutor for this semester. She was supposed to teach me biology.
Honestly when she heard that she looked like she was about to puke. It made me laugh in my head. Her expressions were priceless as she gaped at the teacher.
At first I thought she would try to run away from me, like everyone else did. I was famous as some bad boy at this school because I was expelled last year. How was I enrolled here again? My father has that kind of power where impossible was turned into possible.
I watched her as she got out with some guy may be a friend of hers and got into a car. I wanted to make sure that she won't be running away from me so I went and kind of tried to scare her and make sure she'll take this tutoring thing seriously. She didn't look like she was interested to tutor me which was obvious but I had to make sure she will.
I also needed a house to live. My sudden transfer from Amsterdam to Old Lyme was not any simple student exchange shit. It was impossible for me to live there so my father made this decision for me although he didn't know Austin came back here too. I trusted him though for the time being. He wouldn't expose me and throw me in the jail for something I didn't do.
As I was looking for a house, one of my men brought me a poster which said they needed to sell the house urgently. I thought luck was on my side. When I reached the given address I was shocked to see Hazel standing at the door reflecting the emotions on my face. She was not very pleased to see me but just then an idea popped in my head. As I signed the agreement and gave her the money in cash I threatened her to tutor me as I bought the house and she owed me. She didn't really but I made it sound like that.
"Christian?"
It's her voice again. Good lord it doesn't suit me to get lost in thoughts like this. I gaze into her hazel eyes which are fascinating with a strong hint of emerald and a pinch of Golden brown in them.
"Yeah?"
"Are you okay?" I mentally laugh at the question. Even if I try to extend my memory I won't be remembering the last time I was okay.
But the look of concern in her eyes bothers me. She shouldn't be worrying about me. I shouldn't be thinking about her. We have to be distant, away from each other.
"I'm fine. Well, I should be going now." I abruptly get up and shoot a look at Austin, her brother and decide to leave the place.
"Keep our agreement in mind Chris." Austin calls out before marching away.
Agreement. A stupid agreement. You can't control who you fall in love you with because love is not someone can control. Still we can't fall in love. Me and Hazel. Because I can't risk another life, not while my evil brother is alive.
I stop at their door, ready to leave when I hear her sweet voice again. Please don't talk to me with that voice. "Christian I, um.."
I turn around and her gorgeous face comes in view. I have to stop looking at her. She looks fragile, almost broken, about to cry out. I hate to see her like this so I avert my eyes somewhere else. God don't look at her cleavage Christian you idiot.
"It's nothing, take care." She smiles sadly. Behind her words I suspect She is hiding something important, something she needs to tell someone.
For a moment I have an internal battle on whether to ask her about it or not. You can't get more involved. Let it be. A voice says in my head and I leave her after telling her to take care as well.
♦♦♥April♥♦♦
As soon as he leaves I regret not telling him about Gracie. About how she tried to kill me today. But then I shouldn't be bothering him right? We're not supposed to get closer than this.
My girlfriend Emily she...she's dead.
I try to shut that voice which keeps ringing in my head. His voice. His deep and thick voice, very much masculine and firm. Not every guy sound like that. Alright, time to stop filling your head with his thoughts April.
Just as I turn around I hear front door open and I glance back at a sweating Jayson. He looks like he has run a marathon but it doesn't matter. He's here!
I lunge towards him wrapping my arms around him, tears find their way out and roll down my cheeks as his familiar scent surrounds me. He pats on my head softy before kissing my hair. "What happened?" He asks but I just shake my head.
We stand there for a minute or so until a cold voice cuts through the warm silence. "Hello lovebirds."
Gracie Black, a new problem of my life stands smirking at us.
