31. What Just Happened?

'I like to arrive in style. That's my speciality.'

'Sorry Miss. I can't do anything about it. You are not appropriate enough to enter Cliff Hangers.'

'What's "appropriate enough" in your dictionary? You think I need to resemble an alien?'

The Bouncer of the club didn't give any response. He was letting other people in but I was stashed away at the side. He had a dark aura. Big burly muscles of arms covered in Egyptian tattoos with piercings over his eyebrows. I didn't want my night to ruin in this new city named Rhythmicbooze or a repeat of past few days where I became a crying mess. My journey was at its final stage before I pack my bags and head home so, Brayden decided to show me around the city and also invited me to the club since he knew the owner.

Since Mr Egyptian tattoo was really adamant on his part, I decided to call Brayden who picked up immediately. 'Hey, Rabbit, the bodybuilder is not letting me in.'

'Wait, hold on. I am coming outside.' The music was in its full swing inside the club since he spoke too loudly which was too much for my ears.

'Yeah, what's the problem?' He came after a few minutes and just spared me a glance and directed the question to Bouncer.

'Can you please look at the state of this woman; I am not letting her inside. There are certain rules that I have to follow.'

'Uff, I don't know what's the problem? So, what if I arrived on cycle, I look pretty good.'

'You came on cycle Scarlett? Most people would prefer a cab.'

Why is he shocked that much?

'I was planning to save money.'

Mr Egyptian guard had cotton stuffed in his ears so, he didn't care who was saying what. I tapped on the shoulder of Brayden and he turned giving me a what look. 'I know how to mend the situation.'

'Scarlett, what are you planning to do?' His voice was always laced with fear as if I would drop a bomb on someone.

And I did nothing. I just simply took out a rose flower that I bought from a street seller and politely walked towards the bouncer and pinned the flower at his chest pocket. His look was bewildered and I assumed that rose was adding weight to his soul.

'Please Rose Man, let me in. I will be at my best behaviour.'

'Can you move? You are blocking my way.' A screechy voice came into my ears and I shifted to the side to pave the way for a young lady.

I again turned my attention to Rose Man and pouted. A ghost smiled appeared at his lips and then he gestured to Brayden to come closer, 'take care of her.'

'Believe me man; she can take care of the whole club.'

I saluted the Rose Man and then finally entered the club. It was so dark inside. I could only see a swarm of bodies moving and dancing as if their bodies were fused with music. Brayden inched close to me and asked, 'what do you wanna do?'

'I want to eat first.'

We headed to an eating lounge area which was on the first floor. It had a warm and contemporary feel designed in such a way to enable space yet felt so intimate. The wooden deck tables were affixed to the railings of a balcony so, I took a seat over there and Brayden left to get my pizza. I had a great view of what was going down which was not much but people dancing crazily or grinding. It seemed like a fun show to watch.

When Brayden came with my pizza, he again left in a hurry to get his mocktail since there were a lot of people in line. I was starving to death and Mozzarella pizza was right in front of me. I could only wait for 30 minutes for Brayden and then I dived right into it.

I was eating and also swaying my body at the same time, munching on flavours when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned to find that same young lady standing before me but she looked heavily intoxicated.

'You are that girl right who was blocking my way while on entry and that handsome man was with you?' She did a burp. 'I want his number. I don't know where he left.' I was looking around for her friends to come and rescue her because first and the foremost thing I was afraid she would eat from my pizza.

'Is he your boyfriend or even your ex, well, I don't give a fuck. Give me his number.'

Okay, that's enough.

'Hey, I am eating pizza right now; do you want it's leftover as well?'

'Whatever, bitch.' She had a unique style of saying goodbye.

'Goodbye, fake blonde.' And that's how I reciprocated her love.

The rhythm of the whole club changed when DJ played "Florida's Club Can't Handle Me" right now because everyone started singing it. The atmosphere just switched and got so electrified that I could feel it in my veins.

'Checking out a hot guy?' Brayden came and stood beside me and offered me his Classic Shirley Temple mocktail.

I took a sip and passed him, 'Naah, I was checking out the bright pink sparkly stilettos of that girl who is wearing a black leather zipper dress.' His eyes searched for that girl. 'Those shoes are so standing out. You know, this is the right place for me to check out what's latest in fashion.'

'Yeah, they are okay, I guess. I like your converse better, they seem comfortable.'

'Look at that maroon ruffled sleeve dress girl next to her, she is carrying that dress with such a charm.' My eyes were wandering around the place.

'Well, you are looking pretty in your casual wear too.'

'Her dance moves are so sexy. Look at that swirl, man'

'I find the mole on your upper lip sexy.'

'Her laugh is so attractive. How can someone throw their head back and laugh so gracefully?' I wanted to imitate the action but now wasn't the right time.

'You are disgustingly beautiful and horrendously thoughtful too.'

'Now, I understand why Rose Man didn't want me to come inside. I look so inappropriate.' I had such bad taste in clothes.

'Hey, have you been even listening to me?' Brayden kept his drink on the table and turned me to look at him. 'I invited you to the club so that we could have a good time or maybe "even dance" not to check out people. Those girls are beautiful in their own way but you aren't less of them and me, the least of all people should not preach to you about all of this.'

'You know how my dance moves are. My dance will be bad for my reputation.'

The club seriously won't be able to handle me then.

'Well, I don't care if your dance moves aren't perfectly synchronised.' I felt bad at the moment but he continued.

'What I care for the fact that how your eyes sparkle when you dance. How you lose yourself into that moment, how happy you make others while dancing. I like it so much when you dance. Be it crazy or not, it's your dance and I would do anything to be your crazy partner.'

It wasn't just his mouth that was talking; his eyes were conveying the message to the depth of my soul. I knew for sure that he must have seen more beautiful girls than me but at this moment, he was unable to take his eyes off mine. My eyes got lowered and I was breathing heavily. His hand tucked a strand of my hair behind my ear and then I knew at that moment, I was a gone case. I had to do something immediately.

Run.

'Rabbit, I am just...' say something, idiot. 'I saw a pool area right outside of the club.' Take a deep breath. 'So, I am going out there. I will see you in a minute.'

I just rushed past the sweating bodies, stepping on foot or a two, saying sorry and excuse me as a mantra. I bolted from that place and my hurried steps were taking me to a quiet serenity of the pool area. Once I reached there, I looked here and there and was glad that not even a single soul was lurking around.

And then I screamed but I quickly covered my mouth with both of my hands and started pacing back and forth.

'Oh no noo! Why you had to run Scarlett? He was just being nice and considerate. But then why did he lean his head towards me? Why he kept looking at my lips?'

I looked at my reflection in the clear crystal water of the pool.

'Are my lips that kissable? Am I Angelina Jolie?' That boosted my ego to another level.

'Snap out of it Scarlett, FIRST and foremost thing, you will not chicken out. SECOND, you have taken out bad guys, so this whatever this is building between us is just a piece of cake.'

Yes, it's just like a red velvet cake.

'Nooooo, it's not. My heart is all bongos when I am next to him. I think I need to jump into this pool to cool myself.'

The ripples of water were calling me and the moon would be my companion.

But the eerie silence of the place was stolen by a drunken voice. 'What a pretty lady is doing out here and all alone?'

The man was roughly around my age carrying a beer can in his hand. He was looking at the sky and then took a swig of his beer.

'How do you even know that I am pretty, what you just saw was my back? And who comes like that?' I got startled for a second.

I was afraid of the noises that could intervene in the silence. That always made my heart jump.

'I scared you? So sorry but I automatically come to those places where a lonely girl needs my presence.'

'What happened to other jobs in the world?'

He gave a very hearty laugh. 'You are making it so difficult for me to like you.'

'Well, I didn't ask you to like me.'

'You are sassy.'

'I know.'

He didn't seem that drunk and he was in his own world. I didn't know what his fascination with the sky was but he kept looking up. I didn't get the feeling that he would harm me in any way still I was being careful.

'I heard your monologue, sorry about that. I just felt that you are lonely, I thought to give you my company because today even I got dumped.'

'Sorry to hear about that and thanks for your concern but I am pretty good.'

I was about to go inside the club when my steps haltered because Brayden chose to come at that moment and his eyes twitched when he saw an unknown guy beside me.

I hope my cheeks are not as red as before.

He came towards me and very calmly asked, 'Scarlett, who's he?'

I was sandwiched between the two.

'I don't know, maybe, a human I guess.'

And then we both heard a boisterous laugh and the smell of that drunken laugh was all over my face and it was awful. 'She has a good sense of humour, I like her.'

Brayden took hold of my arm and nudged me towards him. 'Yeah, I know, now back off.'

Okay, this is escalating quickly.

'I need to go to the washroom and after that shall we leave?'

Brayden simply nodded and told me to meet him at the exit area and I left the two to go to a powder room. Even the washroom had a line but my number came quickly. I washed my face, calmed myself and then headed to meet Brayden but there was no sign of him over there and I even enquired with Rose Man but he also didn't see him.

That's strange. Is he still in the pool area?

So, I hurriedly rushed to that place. The night air was getting chilled and a shiver ran down my spine when I entered the pool area. My breath got hitched and my eyes came out of my socket looking at the scenario.

What just happened behind my back?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey everyone,

My mind keeps saying that both men are having a heart to heart talk in the pool. What do you think has happened behind her back?
