KENDALL
--------------------------------
Oh, the joy I get out of dragging my training bag along the side walk all the way from the gym back home. I mentally face palmed myself, I was finally on my street (it took me a good fifteen minutes to get here). Heading closer and closer to my house; now crossing the road, I was in front of the Legend's house hold.
I didn't bother to look at the now Legend's house hold. I continued to walk over to my house. Music blasting through my earplugs I nodded my head along to the beat of the song.
'Got a whole lot of history,'
The words played, I reached the front door, at the patio, shuffling my hands around in my pocket trying to fish out my house keys.
But it was unnecessary, because once I wrapped my fingers around the door handle the door was already open, I pushed open the door skeptically, maybe Reace was home? It's Mum's day to go grocery shopping so she wouldn't be home, nor would Tyler he was at Cory's house probably getting in trouble right this minute, and dad was on yet another business trip.
I jumped back in a fright, back hitting the door, David stood in the hallway facing me. I breathed in and out calming down my breathing pattern, David laughed, once he moved to the side Reace was standing with him, in a tank top and track pants.
"I'm just- I'm going to go upstairs." I spoke awkwardly, stuttering, as I pointed up the stairs as Reace gave me a good-to-know? look. I laughed awkwardly before staring at the two once more and dashing off, taking two steps at a time climbing up the staircase.
God, why am I so awkward? I swear to God. I always do this, I groan, amazing. I threw my training bag just outside my front door, Tyler's door was shut, plastered with a 'keep out' sign hanging from the door knob. I'm honestly so tempted to run up to his door and rip it down, but I know that would be a mistake, a very big mistake; I'd probably wake up in a room infested with insects. Thinking about it thoroughly I decided to leave the matter alone this time.
I pulled out my earplugs, pausing my music, wrapping the white cords around my phone, finally I held it in my hands before throwing it onto my bed.
Picking up black undergarments, I pulled out my grey Nike track pants - its funny how they're exercising but instead I lay around in them eating chips and watching Netflix, or in Australia I'd be watching Foxtel, not sure if anyone still has that, but it was my life- and a long sleeved black shirt.
Plopping down on my bed I grabbed my hair brush on my bed side table and begun running it through my strands of hair, until it became knot free. Sighing, I laid down against my pillows, I frowned shuffling when I felt something rub against my back - and no not my mattress or sheets- I prompted myself back up when I realized I had been laying on a sheet of folded paper.
I stared at it questioningly for a few moments before I found myself opening the folded piece of paper.
'What are you going to do? the game is tomorrow, and you don't have a coach dear.'
I stiffened reading aloud the last part of the message.
'-DL'
In all honesty I didn't need to read the last part to know who it was from, I already had a good idea of who it was. The sheet of paper fell from my hands to my bed, I stared at my door before jumping up and running down the hallway heading towards the stairs, Reace was coming up the flight of stairs when I grabbed him by his forearms, retrieving my breath trying to look somewhat calm and collected, but I shook him harder than intended. I cleared my throat, smiling.
"David- I mean Reace, where's David?" I chirped out in a strained voice, adrenaline pumping through me. Was it strange that I could hear my pulse pumping? As if I was listening to my own heart beat, my heart pounded against my chest, it was the most uncomfortable feeling ever, I shifted.
"Calm down," he chuckled before continuing. "You're acting as if you're going to ask for his hand in marriage or something." he added as I rolled my eyes.
"Yeah, thats exactly what I'm going to do." I spoke sarcastically waving my hands around as he mumbled.
"Does mum and dad know about this, little sister?" Reace thought tapping his chin.
"Where is he?" I shot out as Reace was going off topic. My hands dropped from his forearms to my sides.
"He just went home." Reace shrugged as he begun climbing up the stairs again, heading towards the living room upstairs or his room.
Great. David knows that we no longer have a coach, if he told Reace... if the school finds out... they won't let us play, would they? Thoughts kept rushing through my head, I inhaled and exhaled rubbing my temples. I couldn't just storm over to David's house. Just great, just great.
I begun to fidget with my hands, heat building up in my body. Panic. Calm down Kendall, keep it together, keep it together. I can't let the team fall apart, sure it wasn't my responsibility, because I wasn't captain ball... but then again, we don't have a captain, we decided that the first season we ever played all together to resolve any conflict.

{ flashback }
"Kendall!"
I stiffened, getting up from the spot of my bed I had just lurched onto when I heard mum leaving her room to fetch me to meet her new conquest.
"Coming." I murmured more to myself than to her, I'd be surprised if she actually heard me, I thought.
I jogged down the set of stairs, there was mum waiting at the bottom, feet planted on the ground in her black slippers, she wore a smile on her face. When I reached her she planted a kiss on my temple, wrapping an arm around my shoulders.
She led me into the doorway of her room. I stared into her room, which was completely lit, since it was getting dark outside.
There, on the couch sat a boy - sorry, correction : a teenage boy - he didn't look up at me, I could barely even see his face, he looked down at his hands. He was in a black hoodie, but the hood wasn't covering his face, instead it laid on his back.
"David, this is Kendall." Mum beamed looking at David placing a hand on his shoulder. "Kendall, David." I nodded, casting a small smile, although he still didn't look up at me, his face was directed downwards.
All that I could really make out from him was his thick, wavy, brown hair. Mum mouthed over at me like she usually did 'upstairs' as she pointed at the stairs. Like always I was the one that would talk to the girl or boy. Mum would tell me that she preferred for Reace, Tyler or me to get whoever it may be mind off of the situation at hand for even a moment, because she believed it was better than having them dwell in sadness, the letting it out and letting it go came after the bonding sessions with us Summers. Mum - and I - believed giving them a bit of time to collect themselves, giving them time to breath instead of shoving advice down the throat was the way to go.
"David, was it?" I smiled as he nodded, head still held low. "Why don't we-" I thought for a moment, what was there to do? it would be a bit awkward just to sit there and play twenty-one questions or something, because we didn't really know each other and usually the game would always end in flames, with us disagreeing on something. "Play some Mario Cart?" I grinned. That was a good idea, if I don't say so myself.
Slowly, his head begun to rise, for the first time he finally looked at me. At first the expression on his face was unreadable until a small grin appeared on his face, it suited him, yeah I know, cheesy.
He nodded, he shot up from his earlier position on the couch. Sending a 'thank you' to my mum, he walked up to me waiting for me to lead the way. Already, standing next to me I realized he was by far taller than me. Way taller than me.
I peered up at him, this time he stared at me in the eyes, his chocolate eyes scanning mine, as if searching for something.
And then, did I realize just how stupid I probably looked. Just standing in the middle of the door way of my mum and dad's room, staring at his boy with the great cheekbones like an idiot, all while my mum's just standing there watching us.
{ end of flashback }
I shot up, gasping. Not again, not again I thought. I shut my eyes, my room was completely lit, I was tucked in my bed, in my room, I didn't even remember drifting off to sleep last night.
"Ma ma Mia!" I looked over to my side there Tyler was looking horrified at me. "That's a spicy meatball!" Tyler gasped, clicking his fingers. His reference from some ad, I'm not quite too sure where from but ever since last year that was his catch phrase.
"Spider in your room?" I asked, wondering why he was in my room. He rolled his eyes sitting his butt on my legs.
"You're one to talk." he retorted as I sunk down in my position thinking about the last time I invited the Tiger's over for a sleepover... we were all sitting around in a circle with the lights turned off, with a single flashlight on as our only source of light and of course, we were telling horror stories. Anyways, Bree was telling us about Slender man and his victims when all of a sudden Rose started screaming, at first we all thought it was because the story was horrifying or something - it wasn't that bad though, and Rose loved horror, she's probably watched majority of the horror movies to have ever been made, literally, our Italian teacher asked if anyone had seen some Italian horror movie and she was the only one to raise her hand. - but than she started screaming 'spider'. Bree had a huntsman spider crawling up her chin. Mind you this was at midnight. Then my dad busted in my room with a baseball bat like he was going to knock out some burglar, Tyler followed in beside him wearing a stupid ski-mask, and Reace ran in shirtless with a basketball and a pencil, what was Reace going to do with a pencil? Stake him? Was he a vampire now? If so, Damon take me.
"Shut up." I mumbled as Tyler laid back, across my legs.
"You're so weird, I didn't even wake you up yet and you shot up in your sleep like a zombie." Tyler commented shivering. "Anyways, Ma said get ready, we've got grocery shopping to do and you have a game." Tyler's like the messenger around this house, I thought. I nodded, smiling as he pulled himself back up to his feet walking away from me and towards my door.
"How was Cory's?" I asked as he grinned from ear to ear turning to face me.
"Oh- you know..." He grinned even more - if that was even possible - he laced his fingers together like some evil mastermind before walking off.
"I'm not going to even ask." I murmured, unlike Reace, mum and dad ; Tyler actually shut the door after himself. Thank the lord.

Apple Cider, Apple Cider. Please don't tell me they ran out of apple cider, this was Manhattan... to think they didn't have an endless supply of apple cider was crazy and utterly mind boggling. But, I guess vinegar would have to do, well we'd have to make-do with it.
I reached out to pull the bottle of vinegar into my red plastic carry around basket that the store provided us with, but as I pulled at the bottle it wouldn't come towards me. I let go and in an instant the bottle was pulled back into the other side of the aisle.
See, the funny thing is the shelves back in Australia worked completely differently. don't get me wrong, Manhattan has heaps of stores the same but it was this once store that organized things very, very differently.
I peered through the hole that once was filled with a bottle of Vinegar, and low and behold, there stood the blue eyed boy himself.
"Mac?" I questioned, trying to keep myself from laughing, the fact that we were both pulling at the bottle back-and-forth like a game of tug-of-war made me laugh.
"Kendall." He smiled, slightly bending over to peep into the gap.
"Don't you have a game?" I questioned raising an eyebrow. He nodded while raising his index finger.
"But, it doesn't start for another good half-an-hour." He thought, tapping his chin; which drew even more attention to his strong jawline. Examining his face my eyes darted up to his cheeks when I had realized his usually tan skin was pink, almost red. "Sunburn." He quickly spoke, obviously realizing. I laughed. "The beach, the sun and me? we don't go well." he joked.
"What are you doing after the game?" I asked curiously, trying to make small talk - in the strangest place possible, by-standers probably thought we were arguing over who was going to get the bottle of vinegar or something of the sort.
"Well, I would be going to David's party today, and I'd love it if you'd come with me as my plus one." My cheeks warmed up at this gesture. "But," there's always a but.. "Unfortunately I've got myself a date with the dentist, I'm getting my stupid wisdom teeth taken out." He groaned, even though I had no idea what 'wisdom-teeth' were I simply smiled and nodded.
"Cool." I spoke. Not knowing if wisdom teeth removal was a good thing or a bad thing I had to come up with the lamest response, but luckily Mac smiled at this.
"Kendall" Mum called out as I broke eye contact with Mac for a second turning to find my mum waiting next to me. "What are you doing?" she questioned in a hushed tone.
"Talking to.." I begun but as I turned to face where Mac originally was he had vanished. "The talking vinegar bottle?" I laughed making up yet another - surprise, surprise - lame response.
❅
Fumbling, I twirled the lid of my plastic drink bottle around in my hands as I watched the game in front of me.
The score was twenty-one to thirty-two, and they still had a good half an hour to go. Stallion high were notorious and as I had expected they were winning. They pranced around as if they owned the place, but I guess I was only saying that because I utterly disliked - hate was a strong word - Tanya Waters. To describe her in one word? a stuck-up-daddy's-girl.
My attention was drawn to behind me where my team were training, well not really, they were just messing around talking about boys or that Milo Hores in Anna's art class that asked her out not too long ago, from all the squealing and giggling my guess is that she will accept his offer.
I stiffened as my eyes locked with a set of blue ones, without even looking at his face I already had a good idea of who it was, two words, Mac Flurry.
