Chapter 20: A New Groom

My grief and shock over my father's death was so great that this male's confession sparked nothing inside of me. It was an ember swallowed by a mountain of flames, and I could only blink at him.

"What? No hello or hug for your brother?"

"You're a liar." I spoke to him, but I looked at Jones. He wouldn't meet my eyes.

"Afraid not." The stranger stood and nudged my father's body with his boot.

Something inside of me snapped. No. Not just something. The lock on my power broke, and it swelled inside of me. Raw and without form, it sizzled in my veins, begging for release and granting me the ability to move so quickly, Kinley never had a chance.

My fingers punched through the tender skin of her neck, sinking into the soft tissue and blood beneath until they struck bone. Red, foamy bubbles formed as she choked, and I could feel the vibrations of her gurgles. I made sure to look her in the eye when I broke her neck so I could watch the light disappear the same way my father's had.

"Kinley!" Nas roared. Perhaps he knew it was too late or sensed what I had become because he didn't move toward us. I dropped her body and shook my hand. Bits of gore clung to the crimson stained hem of my wedding gown.

Calix was at my side in the space of a heartbeat, his black mist curling around me like a shield. The guests closest to the exits rushed out, none of them invested enough to choose a side. Their only concern was survival, which was wise of them, because if I had my way, no one but Calix and me were walking out of here alive.

"Bravo, sister," the redheaded male said, clapping and looking far too delighted for someone who had just witnessed two murders. He smiled at Jones. "You told me she wouldn't have the balls to do something like that."

Jones stared at me in horror. "The old Luna would never..."

I flashed my teeth at him. "She doesn't exist anymore, you traitorous bastard."

The building trembled around us. My mate was putting on a show for these fools. Calix put his hand on my shoulder, and I realized he wasn't responsible for the quakes. I was.

"Do you want to kill them now?" He asked me, rubbing small circles against my neck. "Or do you want to torture them and kill them slowly?"

"The last part sounds good."

Heels clicked on the floor, and everyone's attention turned toward the newcomer. Calix recognized her first, and his touch turned painful as he gripped my arm. I welcomed it.

"Look at this family reunion," Niamh purred.

"How are you here?" Calix snarled.

She latched onto the male's arm and batted her dark blue lashes at him. "Dolion, you haven't told them?"

Dolion. I was glad to have his name before I killed him. Brother or not, he disrespected and murdered my father, and for that, I would not grant him the mercy of a swift death as I had for Kinley.

"We really haven't had a chance, love." Dolion shrugged and pointed at the bodies on the floor. "Someone has a temper."

For a second, Niamh looked taken aback. Her full lips pressed together so hard they paled, but her discomfort fled as quickly as it came. When she turned her attention back to me, I saw only pure malice in her expression.

"That's a pity. Eira was looking forward to being reacquainted with her long, lost daughter."

My skin burned hot with the need to unleash more power. "This small talk bores me. Tell me how and why you're here. Speak quickly, and we might go easy on you."

"And you told me I was the dramatic one." Dolion tapped his finger on her nose.

"Becoming Fae must have brought it out in her, but I'm not surprised. It must be a twin thing."

My stomach flipped. Calix held me upright. Twins. Surely not.

Jones fidgeted at Dolion's side. "Enough, you two. Let's not be cruel."

"Murdering my father in front of me on my wedding day wasn't cruel?"

His limpid eyes latched onto mine. "I didn't know that was going to happen."

"He's right, you know." Dolion stared at the bodies. "We told him we just needed a little blood."

"For what?" Calix asked.

"To break the Vow."

"This again?" I screamed, lashing out at Niamh. My nails scraped across her cheek, tearing a gash through her silken skin. "You already tried that once and failed. You killed him for nothing."

Dolion grabbed me before I could strike her again. Calix lunged for him, but magic pulsed out of Dolion, slamming into my mate like a solid wall and flinging him across the room. He crashed into a table laden with food, breaking it in half. Mashed potatoes and salad dressing splattered on the ceiling and walls.

Jumping to his feet, his mist surging around him like a black wave, he tried to teleport back to me, but nothing happened. With a roar, he ran toward us only to his Dolion's wall again and again. He pounded against the barrier until his fists turned bloody.

"Let me go!" I screamed, twisting and bucking in Dolion's grasp.

What use was all this power when I could do nothing with it? It was too new and unwieldy. I had no idea what I could do with it yet.

"I'm afraid I can't do that. You see, we didn't just come here to kill Father, though that was a necessity. I'm quite sad we'll never get to chat about human things like baseball and fishing."

My hand brushed over something cool. A dagger on his belt. I pulled it free and drove it into his thigh.

Dolion hissed and let me go. Storm clouds gathered behind Calix as he watched me run toward him, but I was knocked to the ground and struck my chin on the floor after taking only two steps. A copper taste coated my tongue as my teeth bit through my bottom lip.

Dolion flipped me over to my back and straddled me. The blood stain on his leg was not nearly as big as I wished it to be. "Why must everyone behave so badly?"

"I'm going to kill you."

"You probably could if you ever had the chance to get the magic under control. It's quite impressive, really. I can see it, you know. Most Fae twins have that gift. Unfortunately, you're not going to get the chance. You see, the Ancient Ones weren't the only anchors for the Vow."

His words cut through my rage. "What do you mean?"

"There were three. One in the Fae Realm and two hidden away in the human realm. An ancient one, a human, and...any guesses?"

"A true Fae." I spat out.

"Feisty and smart."

"Too bad Niamh already tried to use me, and it failed."

"Well, that's because she didn't have me. I'm the third anchor."

"Oh good. Then we get to kill you."

Dolion chuckled, picked me up, and threw me over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. "You'd like that, wouldn't you?"

"I'd love that."

He started walking, carrying me toward the exit. Calix screamed after us, and lightning split the sky.

"As much as I want to break the Vow, I refuse to die, but thankfully, we have a solution for that."

"And that is?" My head banged against his ass as he broke into a quick jog. Jones, Nas, and Niamh followed.

"I'm going to bond you as my mate."
