Placing the plate of omelet on the table , I asked Imraan,

"Where is Ahya?Breakfast is almost ready."

"She isn't feeling well. She won't eat."He said taking a sip of his tea.I sat down as Mama said,

"Imraan what happened to her? I 've being noting she doesn't eats well these days."Her brown eyes showing worry.

"I don't know. She just vomits."He shrugged his shoulders and frowned.

Mama gave him a glare and said,

"You should have been responsible Imraan. You should have taken her to a doctor."He nodded and everyone continued their breakfast.

As the men left for work, I sat in the lounge scrolling through different channel when Mama's voice called to me,

"Shahwar, call doctor Nasreen and ask her to come here."She stated.

I looked over at her, my eyes showing confusion,

"Why should I call here, She's a.."My voice trailed off as Mama shared a look with Aunty Naheed.

Obediently obeying I called the doctor.
Another half an hour passed as I bit my lips in anticipation.Leaning against the cream wall outside Ahya's room I waited for the doctor to come out.

The door opened and I straightened.Mama came out looking as happy as ever.Aunty Meena also beamed besides her.My mother hugged me saying,

"MashALLAH..I am going to be a grandmother." My lips formed in a grin as I hugged my aunty too.The doctor came out and mama went downstairs with her, to escort her out.

As I went inside the room Aunty Naheed hugged me as I said,

"Mubarakan."She went out to order sweets.

I sat on the edge of the bed on Ahya's side. Her form was clad under the covers, only her red face visible.

"Mubarakn bhabi."I teased.

She smiled and playfully hit my hand.Embracing her , I said,

"I am so happy for you and Imraan."

"Me too."She said.

And after that we talked all afternoon.

When I got in my room I sat down on the bed and sighed. Our lives were very strange. The past days were very dark, very dark.It seemed as if there was no way out from the sadness that had dawned on us.Every hope was lost. From heartbreak to misery.I had felt so many emotion in these few days and each one different. Not only me and Salah, but all of the house was affected.

But today it seemed like the darkness had started to fade away.Like the test was finally over.A new hope had smeared in the air.A new hope.Ahya had given such a good news that even the walls of Khan's mansion were glowing with happiness.A light had spread around the mansion taking over the darkness.

My eyes closed and sleep pulled me with its strong threads.

"We are soon going to have little Ahya and little Imraan running around the mansion."Mama said to Imraan on the dining table.

He almost spit the water hearing this.I laughed at him and soon silenced when I saw almost everyone looking at me and most probably the green eyes.

Imraan stood up from his chair.
"What?? "He asked.

"Imraan, your going to be a father."Aunty Naheed said.

His eyes glistened. He whispered something in pashto before he asked for his wife.Dinner was almost completed as everyone enjoyed the sweets of happiness,

"I know where she is.Come I'll take you to her."I assisted him to my room.He hugged her tightly kissing her forehead. He said something in her ears making her blush and look up to me,

"Shahwar, why is she here.I am her husband not you.She is always with you.Go get you own husband."Absentmindedly he spoke and I froze. He soon realized his words and gave me an apologistic  look.I waved him off with a smile. The couple stood up walking out.I almost laughed at the irony.

Later that night I placed a cup of warm milk on a small tray and made my way to Aunty Meena's room.

Turning the knob, the seen before me , stunned me.Uncle Yousuf was nowhere in sight as Aunty Meena sat on the bed, stroking her son's hair.Salah's head in her lap as he talked to her.Noticing her eyes on me,I said

"I'll come back later."I hesitated.Salah looked up to me and I turned around to go when Aunty Meena's voice reached my ears,

"It's okay Shahwar.Come here.Sit with me."She patted the space besides her.Placing the tray on the side table, I sat down besides her.She took my hand in her warm one.As she continued,

"I don't know what has happened to my children's happiness but I do know that the dark days fade away.Salah and Shahwar, almost no one can feel what you two have gone through. But you cannot dwell in it forever.Sometimes ALLAH is testing his people to check their faith. It was your test and you have passed it with patience, and now what you have to do is move on with your life.If you keep holding the threads of yesterday, you won't be able to reach the threads of tomorrow.Salah, you have to ask for forgiveness from your father. He will take sometime and will forgive you.My children don't drown your lives thinking that everything has finished , the world is waiting for you.Do you both understand.Live with a new hope.A new dream.Put your trust in ALLAH because HE is the bestest healer."She turned her glassy eyes to me and I looked at her.Salah sat up and my eyes turned to his.Aunty Meena kissed both our head.A smile formed on Salah's lips and I smiled back.

It was an unspoken promise..

The afternoon sky had dissolved with grey clouds as the sun almost disappeared from the sky.The slapping of rain against the hard ground made me divert my attention to the garden. It looked pleasant.

Ahya popped another chip into her mouth as she stared at me.The wall length windows weren't helping me either.I gave her a pleading look.Maybe she could convince Mama.

Zarah nudged me lightly , her face portraying my expression.Ahya gave me a wink before she turned to Mama,

"Please, let them go in the rain.Their eyeing my food"She said innocently.

That drama queen.

"No.They will get sick and cold.Shahwar, Zarah don't eye her food, go get yourself something to eat."

My mother had stopped cutting cucumbers as she eyed us.I huffed leaning back.My face turning to the window.

"Neelum bhabi let the girls go.Its such a wonderful weather outside."Aunty Meena said as she walked into the room.

Mama looked over to her and then gave in.

I and Zarah yelled in joy before we went to the glass doors leading the garden.Barefoot in the wet grass made me close my eyes as I opened my arms.Twirling a little, I felt the drops fall on my face.Zarah jumped in the grass.I wrapped my arms around myself suddenly feeling cold.I shivered lightly as the cold wind blew.Aunties and Mama also joined us with Ahya, but she stayed in the shade.

Looking over at everyone I thought about a new hope. This was maybe a new begining.

"I don't like rain."The voice had me turning around.Salah stood under the shade as Zarah called out to him.

Imraan's almost wet him look messier than ever. But he went inside to take a chair for his wife.

I stood in the rain for someone,my face, the sky.Letting the rain wash over me.

My black dupatta almost clung to me as I made my way under the shade.Running my hands through my wet hair, I turned to the voice,

"You like rain."Salah said tilting his head to the side. His green eyes boring into mine.

"Yes."I softly whispered.

"Its very calming. And its a blessing from HIM.You should also like it."

"Hm"Was his response. What next he did surprised me.I knew he never liked rain from the very start. He would never play when it rained.

He walked from under the shade and stood under the rain, in front of me.Rain drops falling on his light blue dress shirt. His eyes never moved from mine.As he whispered.

"Maybe I do like it now."

And I gasped softly.
