The Painted Ladies
The team and I were on Appa as we trudged through a course of sludge-invested water. It was disgusting and it was even more gross when Aang decided to jump in to play with Momo.
"Momo!" Aang called before he ducks his head again and pops up seconds later. "Oh Momo!" He ducks again and resurfaces again to have Momo find him. "Ah! Ha ha, you found me, buddy." Aang laughs and pets the lemur before he airbends himself up into the saddle. "Hey guys, I think this river's polluted."
Aang was covered in sludge and I grimaced.
"What makes you say that?" I asked with sarcasm and Aang gives me a playful grin.
He bends the sludge off himself and this unfortunately slimes the rest of us. Bubbles chitters when the sludge touches her fur. Aang quickly airbends us clean, leaving our hair a mess.
"My hair..." I whined, brushing it out. Aang kisses my cheek, sitting down next to me.
"Well, that explains why I can't catch a fish around here." Sokka complains from the back of Appa with a fishing hook in his hand. "Because normally my fishing skills are... off the hook! Get it? Like a fishing hook?"
The four of us stare at Sokka unamused and you could hear crickets chirping.
"Too bad your skills aren't on the hook."
Katara, Aang, and I laugh at Toph's joke but Sokka scowls.
"It looks like we'll need to go somewhere else to get food." Katara suggested and Sokka rolls out a long scroll in front of us.
"Assuming that'll fit into Sokka's master schedule." I add with a scowl, leaning into Aang's side.
Sokka studies the scroll intently. "Hm... it's doable. But that means only two potty breaks today!"
"Hey, maybe we can get some food there." Aang points ahead and we look to see a small village in the middle of the sludge-invested river.
We got off Appa when we reached the waterfall and Aang decided to cover our bison friend with a grass blanket, while Bubbles and Momo were hiding under a smaller one.
"Now you look just like a little hill with horns." Aang smiles. "Bye buddy!"
The five of us stand on a cliff that gave us a view of the village.
"I don't feel anything. Where is this village?" Toph asked us.
"It's in the middle of the river." Sokka tells her.
"Sure is!" We look down to see a elderly man in a hat on a boat. "My name's Dock. Mind if I ask who you are?"
"We're, um, from the Earth Kingdom Colonies." Katara informs him.
"Wow! Colonials!" Dock smiles. "Hop on; I'll give you a ride into town."
We all hoped into his boat and he brings us to the village. I sat next to Aang with my arms wrapped around his arm.
"Why do you guys live on the river?" I asked him curious of the location of the village.
"Because we're a fishing town. At least that's how it was before the factory moved in." Dock explained as we passed by to an ominous-looking Fire Nation factory. "Army makes their metal there. Moved in a few years ago and started gunking up our river. Now our little village is struggling to survive."
Aang and I share a look of sorrow at this. We arrive the town and Aang waves goodbye to Dock.
"Thanks for the ride!"
We explore the village but it was so sad and devastating to see. Every villager looked sick and sad, it was so hard to see them like this.
"Look at this place." I said with sorrow. "It's so sad."
"We have to do something." Katara declared and I nod.
"No, we can't waste our time here!" Sokka counters. "We have a bigger mission that we need to stay focused on. These people are on their own!"
I glared and stopped him. "These people are starving, but you turn your back on them?! How can you be so cold and heartless?"
"I'm not turning my back, I'm just being realistic!" Sokka exclaims as Aang and Toph join us. "We can't go around helping every rinky-dink town we wander into. We'll be helping them all by taking out the Fire Lord!"
Toph slaps her hand over Sokka's mouth. "Hey, loudmouth! Maybe we should be a little quieter when we talk about taking out the Fire Lord."
Sokka lowers his voice. "Come on, girls, be reasonable about this. You know our mission has to come first."
Katara and I shared a look before reluctantly agreeing.
"Fine."
"I guess so."
"Let's just get what we need and go." Aang suggests, grabbing my hand.
We walk toward a market and the same guy who gave us a ride to town was here.
"Hey, Dock. You work here too?" Sokka asked him.
"I'm not Dock, I'm Xu. Dock's my brother." Dock informs us, leaving us baffled.
I folded my arms with a raised eyebrow.
"But we just saw you. You're even wearing the same clothes. The only difference is your hat." Aang reasons, gesturing to the different hat.
"Dock works on the docks, that's why they call him "Dock", and I work in the shop, that's why they call me "Xu"." Dock or Xu explained, I was not sure on who this is.
I'm so confused.
"I don't get it." Aang says.
"Me neither." Xu pulls out a crate filled with rancid fish. "What can I getcha? Hey, I'll give you a special deal. If you buy three fish, I'll throw in a clam for free."
Sokka taps a clam and sludge pours out of its body. All of us are revolted by the food and I cover my mouth with disgust as we back up.
"We'll just take the fish." Sokka informs. "Mind telling your brother we need a ride back to shore?"
Xu ducks behind the counter and reappears with the same headgear Dock had. That's not suspicious at all, not at all.
"Hey, colonials. My brother says you need a lift." Dock smiles and I shake my head, not questioning anything.
As we turned away, a young boy approaches me and tugs on my skirt.
"Can you spare some food?" He asked me with pleading eyes.
I kneel down to his level and offer a fish to him. "I wish I could help more."
The boy runs off and I watch him give the food to his sick mother. I sigh with sadness and follow the others.
I have to help this town. I have to.
——
Later that day, we were back at the campsite for dinner. Aang and Katara were bending the pollution out of the water and I was heating the pot with my firebending so we can have food. Sokka was pondering his schedule as he grabbed some soup from the pot.
"Our detour into town today has completely thrown off our schedule. It's gonna take some serious finagling to get us back on track."
He's taking this way to seriously. We don't need such a strict schedule.
"Finagle away, O schedule master." Toph mutters sarcastically before we all take a seat on the ground together.
"Well, for starters, it looks like we'll need to wake up forty-three minutes earlier every day." Sokka explains to us and I scowl at this.
"Forty-three minutes?" Katara asked.
"Look, we only have a few weeks to get to the Fire Lord in time for the invasion and the eclipse, which, by the way, only lasts for eight minutes. And we just lost a whole day. So if we want to make up the time and stay on schedule, we have to wake up early!" Sokka rambles, pointing to various locations on his schedule.
"Well I'm not waking up early." Toph says, laying down.
"Or we could just cut out all of our eating breaks."
"What?"
"Seriously?"
"Now way!
"Forget it!"
All of us did not agree with Sokka's idea. I found it hard to believe he said that, Sokka's always hungry.
"I got it, how's this from now on, we'll take food breaks and potty breaks at the same time." Sokka suggests with sky look.
All of us recoil in disgust and Aang does a spit take. I shake my head, putting my bowl down.
"Hey, it might be gross, but it's efficient. Either way, we have to leave here first thing tomorrow morning." Sokka declares. I look toward the village with distraught eyes and looked down.
——
The next morning, Katara and I were checking over Appa. He was laying on his side with his mouth open and his eyes were shut.
"Aya, Katara, what's wrong?" Aang asks us, jumping down to meet us.
"I think Appa's sick." I told him, petting Appa's fur.
Sokka came up to us panicking. "What? Appa's sick? That's awful!"
"Wow, Sokka, I didn't realize you cared so much." Toph comments.
"Of course I care. I might as well just throw our schedule away now." Sokka frantically scans his schedule but he turns to see the four of us giving him the evil eye. Seeing our faces, he rushes over to Appa and affectionately pets him. "And I'm concerned because my big, furry friend doesn't feel well."
"He must have gotten sick from being in the polluted water." Toph assumed.
"He doesn't look sick. You okay, buddy?" Aang asked Appa who groans. Aang pulls out Appa's tongue which was purple. "His tongue is purple! That can't be good. Katara, Aya can one of you heal him?"
I checked his tongue and shook my head. "I think he needs medicine."
"Yeah, maybe we can find the right herbs in town." Katara agrees.
Momo greets Appa by licking his tongue before Aang pulls the lemur off.
——
We arrive at the village and I smiled at the sight. The whole village was bustling and lively. The kids were playing with each other and everyone looked happy and healthy.
Makes you wonder what happened last night that caused these people to be healthy again.
"Is it just me, or does this place seem different?" Toph asked noticing the change in atmosphere.
"Yeah, are the people... happier?" Aang questions.
The little boy I saw yesterday ran by bouncing a ball and Katara and I grin at one another as we moved forward.
We approach Dock/Xu's shop and Xu was there. I believe that Dock is one person who is just a crazy man and is posing as different people. That's my belief.
"Hey, Xu, what's going on with everyone today?" Sokka asked Xu.
Xu drinks from a ladle before responding. "Ah, something amazing happened last night. Food was delivered to our village by two mysterious and wonderful people... the Painted Ladies."
I let a small smirk out at that.
"The Painted who now?" Katara asked.
"The Painted Ladies." Xu places two miniature statuettes of the spirits down on the counter. One was smaller then the other while the other one was taller. "They're part of our town's lore. They say they are river and fire spirit's who watch over our town in times of need. I always thought they were just a legend. Until now."
"See, we don't need to help these people, they already have someone to help them." Sokka says to Katara and I before looking at Xu. "All we need is medicine for our sick friend."
"Medicine? Sorry, all the medicine we have goes to the factory. That's why there's so many sick people in our village." Xu remarked and I wrinkled my nose at that.
That stupid factory is causing this village to be in a devastating state. Yes, the two spirits helped this village but that factory will always haunt this poor village unless we take it out for good.
"Looks like we need to stay another night so Appa can rest." Katara told our brother who sighs.
"I guess you're right." Sokka says. "You got anymore food to sell."
Xu ducks under the counter and pops up with a fish in each hand. "Would you like the one-headed fish, or the two-headed fish?"
I grab Aang's arm and grimace as Xu shows us the two headed face.
"Two-headed!" Sokka smiles and the rest of us are disgusted by it. "What? You get more for your money that way!" He holds up the polluted fish.
All of us recoil in disgust as he shows us the fish and we run away with Sokka chasing us with the fish.
——
Third Person's POV
That night, one figure resembling the Painted Ladies glides the water on a cloud of fog. The other spirit skims across the water, blasting fire from hands that flies her across.
The two spirits enter the village and separate to two different huts. The fire spirit steps into the hut that was filled with sleeping people and bends down to each of them. She heals all of them with a her fire that shines a bright yellow color.
She heals the last person before making her leave but she is stopped when the boy that Aya talked to earlier stops her.
"Thank you, Painted Ladies."
The other Painted Lady comes by and both of them smile at one another before disappearing into the night.
——
Aya's POV
The next day, we approached Dock at the village who was polishing one of the Painted Lady statuettes.
"Hi, Dock. Is Xu around?" Sokka asked him.
I think we all know that Dock is Xu and Xu is Dock. Sokka's just being nice.
"Let me check..." Dock runs around the shop and ducks down. He reappears as Xu and I roll my eyes.
"Hey there! Back again, are ya?" Xu asked.
Toph pushes Sokka to the side and slams money on the counter. "We need more food. Our friend is still sick and we can't leave until he's better."
Xu puts a platter of clams on the table and Sokka slides up behind them with a sly chuckle.
"Oh, well, that's too bad. Maybe if you guys are lucky, the Painted Ladies will visit you in the night, and heal your friend." Xu mentions, still drinking from the ladle.
Sokka picks up the clams, speaking in a sarcastically tone. "And maybe she'll cook us a midnight snack, and we'll all have a sing-along."
"Yeah, maybe!" Xu smiles not catching onto his sarcasm and this annoys Sokka. "You know, last night they visited us again. Healed most of our sick folks."
"Is that why this place seems so festive?" Aang asks and beside us many villagers put up two giant statues of the Painted Ladies. The whole town cheers for the spirits which causes me to smile.
"Yep, it's all because of the Painted Ladies." Xu nods.
"Can you believe how much an entire village can be affected by two ladies I mean ... spirits?" Katara asked, correcting herself at the end and I smirk at her.
"Well, I hope they return every night. Otherwise this place would go right back to the way it was." Sokka says and I glare at him.
"Why would you say that?" I asked him indignantly. "Look how much better off these people are."
"Yeah, now, but without them they wouldn't be able to fend for themselves. If they really wanted to help, they would use their spirit magic to blow up that factory." Sokka counters and makes gestures to indicate explosions. "Oooo... pow."
That gives me an idea. If the factory is taken out, then the village won't have to live like this anymore.
"Spirit magic doesn't work that way, Sokka. It's more like..." Aang does a different dance by slivering his body like a snake and I roll my eyes. "Wooooo..."
The boys huddle together and do the dance. "Wooooo...."
Katara storms off angrily and I stood there with a small glare.
——
That night, Katara and I sneak out of our sleeping bags and got dressed as the Painted Ladies. If it wasn't obvious, Katara and I sneak out at night and pose as the Painted Ladies. I can't just stand by and watch this village suffer like this, I have to help it and I'm glad Katara feels the same way.
Katara and I wrap a rag gown around ourselves. Hers was purple and mine was red, we painted our faces with red and purple makeup. Katara using the red and I used the purple, lastly we put a symbol on our foreheads. I painted the sun on mine and she put the moon on hers. To finish off the look, we put on two large conical hats that had a white veil going around it to cover our faces.
"Ready?" Katara asked me and I nodded as we took off into the night.
As we were running, I felt a presence behind.
"Hello! Painted Lady spirits!"
Katara and I share a look of shock when we hear Aang and pick up the pace.
"Excuse me, I don't mean to bother you two, but my friend's sick and we're on kind of a tight schedule!" Aang shouts and Katara and I decided to split up. She ran across the other side of the river and I stayed on the original trail as I cross the river with my fire jets. "Wait! But I'm a great bridge between your world and mine!" I glance behind me and saw Aang following me by freezing the water to create stepping stones. "I know Hei Bai! We're close personal friends!"
I make it to the village and sprint on the wooden docks and I notice Aang's reflection in the water. I look up and saw Aang running across a nearby roof. "Heeey!" To his dismay, Aang slams into a pole and I wince at this, but continue running.
I don't know where Katara was but I had to get Aang off my back. I continue across the river using my fire jets to the other side. I successfully made it to solid grind and hid behind a rock, exhaling with relief.
I gasp lightly when Aang drops in front of me. "My name's Aang. I'm the Avatar." He reveals his arrow to me and I gave him a smile.
I make sure to cover my face well enough while using a fake voice. "Well, hello Avatar. I wish I could talk, but I am very busy. I must find my sister."
"Yeah, me too. I hate that." Aang says and he looks at my face from behind the veil. "You know, you're quite beautiful for a spirit." I mentally growl at this and let him continue. Flirting with other spirits, I see. "You should meet Aya, she's my Fire Angel, the love of my life. Actually, speaking of her, I probably shouldn't be complimenting other girls." Aang gives me a suspicion look as he tries to look under the hat.
It's nice to know he doesn't cheat on me with other spirts.
I let out a nervous giggle with pink cheeks. "Thank you, but."
"You seem familiar too."
He's on to me.
"A lot of people say that."
"No, you really seem familiar."
Change the subject. Run.
"Look, I really should be going and find my sister." I told Aang and started to walk off. Unfortunately, I felt a large blast of wind blow by and my hat floated in the air and I quickly pulled it back down.
There goes my cover.
"Aya?"
I drop the hat and sigh. "Hi Aang."
"You're one of the Painted Ladies?" He asked with shock. "But how? Who's the other one?"
"Katara." I told him and he gave me a another shocked look. "We weren't them at first, we were just trying to help the village. But since everyone thought that's who we were anyway, I guess Katara and I just kinda became them."
"But why pose as a different spirit, you're already the amazing Fire Angel?" Aang reasons and I blush at his words but shake my head.
"Would that be wise?" I asked him. "It could blow our cover and reveal my identity of being the Fire Angel. So, Katara and I talked and we became the Painted Ladies."
"So you and Katara have been sneaking out at night?" Aang asked me and I averted my eyes with guilt. "Wait, is Appa even sick?"
"He might be sick of the purple berries Katara's been feeding him, but other than that he's fine!" I replied, sheepishly.
"I can't believe you lied to everyone, so you and your sister could help these people." Aang tells me and I held my arms to my chest.
"Look, I'm sorry, I know I shouldn't have-"
"No, I think it's great!" Aang beams and I looked at him with a bright smile. "You're like a secret hero!"
I blush lightly and Aang approaches me. He grabs my hands and looks down at me with a smile.
"Well, if you wanna help, there's one more thing Katara and I have to do."
Aang gives me a curious look before I pull him away to get my sister. We found Katara and I explained to her that Aang found out and he can help us. She likes the idea and we all ran to the factory.
"You wanna destroy this factory?" Aang asked as we stared at the large and horrifying factory in front of us.
"Yes. Sokka was just kidding, but he was right." I tell him.
"Getting rid of this factory is the only way to help these people permanently." Katara continues.
——
After we took out the factory, we headed back to camp but we had to be quiet. The factory was completely destroyed and the people in the village should go back to having a healthy and happy life.
Aang was laughing about something and I giggled trying to get him to be quiet. "Shh! We don't wanna wake Sokka."
"Quiet." Katara smiles but we all stop when we see Sokka and Toph standing there. "Hi, Sokka, we were just out on a morning walk."
"Oh, really? A morning walk?" Sokka asks angrily and dumps the hay out of mine and Katara's sleeping bags. "I know you two are the Painted Ladies, I know you've been sneaking out at night, and I know you've been lying about Appa and been feeding him purpleising tongue berries!" Toph and Sokka stick out their tongue to show us the purple on them. Toph holds up a bag of berries which Momo starts eating."Katara, Aya, what you girls did put our whole mission in jeopardy. We're leaving right now!"
I look down sadly as I walk passed my brother with my sister.
"And how long did you know about this?!" I heard Sokka ask Aang.
"Hey, I just found out this morning!"
Later, we were all packing to leave and I as beyond upset. I love my brother, but he can be so cold and heartless sometimes. I understand we have a mission to do, but we can help people in need as well. We're all heroes and we have to act like it. I'm the Fire Angel, it's my jobs to help those in need.
I felt a hand touch my shoulder and I looked up to see Aang. He plants a kiss on my head and I lean my head against his shoulder.
"Don't listen to Sokka." He whispers into my hair. "I'm proud of what you did."
I blush and look up at my boyfriend with a kind smile. Our moment was interrupted when we heard buzzing and we all rush over to see what was happening. We look down at the river belong us to see factory workers were heading to the village.
Oh no.
"What's going on?" Toph asks, kneeling down next to us.
"Fire Nation soldiers are heading to the village!" Aang exclaims.
"What did you girls do?" Sokka asks my sister and I. I gave him a sheepish look as my sister replies.
"We kind of destroyed their factory."
"You what?!"
"It was your idea!" I countered.
"I was joking! I also said to use spirit magic and made funny noises!" Sokka argues and slaps his forehead." Did you even think this through? The army is gonna blame the villagers! They're headed there right now to get revenge!"
"Well, what were we supposed to do?!" Katara asks.
"Leave! Do nothing!"
"No!" I exclaim and stop him. "I will never, ever turn my back on people who need me!"
Katara gets up and grabs my hand. "Aya and I are going down to that village, and do whatever we can to help!"
I nodded and we walked by Sokka, but he stopped us.
"Wait! I'm coming too!"
I glared at this. "I thought you didn't want to help."
"You need me, and I will never turn my back on my sisters." Sokka declares and we turn to him. I smiled softly at my brother and Katara does too.
"Sokka, you really do have a heart." The three of us hug each other. Sokka can be heartless but he is loyal and loyalty is one of the best qualities in a person.
"He really does have a heart, doesn't he?" Aang asks, wiping his tears away and looks at Toph. She elbows him in the stomach and he falls to the ground with a thud.
The four of us hid in a cave and watched the village from above. The factory workers were standing on the dock, berating the people.
I couldn't hear the full conversation but I saw one of the men burn down a hut with his firebending. After we saw enough, we put our plan into action and Katara and I got ready. The Fire Nation workers were about to rip the village to shreds, but Aang put the fire out with his airbending. Nobody saw him, because he was hiding below the ducks.
They lit the barrel again, but he put it out again.
"Light it again!" The head solider shouted and they lit it again, but it was blown out once more.
"Look at that! Where's is coming from?!" The woman solider worker asked.
"I don't know. Something strange is going on." The male solider said as fog created by Aang, Katara, and I rolled, ominously. Appa growled and it echoed to create a creepy and eerie atmosphere.
"There are no Painted Ladies!" The head solider snapped and as the fog got heavier and closer, Toph used her bending to slam a rock repeatedly onto the ground. Sokka played the flute to add to the eerie and ominous atmosphere.
"What is that sound?" The woman solder asked.
"Maybe it is them." The male soldier replied.
Some fog cleared up an Katara and I were revealed to the village dressed as the Painted Ladies. Suddenly, Katara and I flew across the water to meet the village and the soldiers. I used my firebending and Katara used her waterbending. We both leaped onto the dock and stood in front of everyone as the head soldier pushed the other soldiers forward.
"Do something!"
The two soldiers got their weapons out and came closer, but Aang used his airbending to blast them away from us. The two soldiers fled from the scene, leaving just three soldiers.
"Stand your ground!" The head solider announces.
Katara and I moved forward before my sister waterbends two jet skis into a nearby cliff. I raise my hand and form a fireball, threatening the other soldiers and they flee to the remaining jet skis. They take off on them, leaving the head soldier alone.
"I'll take care of your myself!" He declares and he takes a fighting stance. We have a stare down for a moment before he fires an arc of fire at us and we stood there, not moving. I slide forward as Aang airbends my sister into the air and I bend the fire arc away. I form a huge fire ball and blast the head soldier into the polluted water. My sister floats back to the ground and we fly over to the solider who had just resurfaced.
He gasps when he sees us and Katara and I raise our arms.
"Leave this village and never come back!" We tell him simultaneously and he swims away. A soldier riding a jet ski rides by and the head solider climbs on before they leave the village.
I heard cheers and applause from the village people and we return to the dock as my brother, Toph, and Aang join us.
"I'd knew you come!" The little boy I met before smiles.
"Thank you!" Dock smiles, approaching us.
"Painted Laides you're the best!" Another villager person yells out.
"Me and my brothers really owe you two a lot." Dock tells us and he gets a better look at us. "Hey, wait a minute! I know you! You're not the Painted Ladies, you're those colonial girls!"
I rub my cheeks and my purple paint was coming off, along with Katara's red paint.
"Yeah, the younger lady gave me a fish!" The little boy protests.
"You've been tricking us. You two are a waterbender and a firebender!" Dock realized and I held my arms, subconsciously.
"You both are water and fire benders!" Another man berates.
"How dare you act like our Painted Ladies!" Another voice says and I look down, sadly. The crowd moved forward and surges in anger but Sokka steps in to help.
"Maybe they are water and firebenders, but they were just trying to help you. Because of them, that factory won't be polluting your river, and the army is gone. You should be down on your knees thanking them." Sokka explains to them and I gave my brother a smile but Katara and I step forward.
"Sokka, it's okay." I tell him and my sister and I remove our hats. "My sister and I shouldn't have acted like someone we weren't and we shouldn't have tricked you. But we felt like we had to do something."
I looked at my sister who continued. "It doesn't matter if the Painted Ladies are real or not. Because your problems are real, and this river is real. You can't wait around for someone to help you. You have to help yourself."
"They're right!" Dock agrees. "But what should we do?"
Toph popped out from behind some village people using a fake voice. "Maybe we can clean the river!"
"Yeah, we can clean the river!" Dock beams and the crowd cheers. "Thank you. You know, you're not so bad for a couple of water and fire benders."
"You wouldn't mind keeping that a secret, by the way, would you?" Sokka asked him.
"No problem. Keeping my mouth shut is a personal specialty." Dock mentions. "My brother Xu, on the other hand, ohh, he's a blabbermouth."
I roll my eyes as Sokka smacks his forehead.
"So, Dock, are you gonna help us?" Katara asked him.
"No, ma'am. I'm going to get my other brother, Bushi. He loves cleaning rivers." Dock brazenly switches hats right in front of us. "All right, I'm Bushi! Let's get some river cleaning done!"
"Aha, I knew it!" Aang steps forward, pointing at Bushi or whatever his real name is. "I knew you were the same guy. You're the shop owner and the boat guy."
"Oh, you must be talking about my brothers, Dock and Xu." He replies and I rose my eyebrow at this.
"No, I just saw you! You switched hats and called yourself a different name!" Aang argues.
"Oh, you know who does that? My brother, Dock." Bushi tells us and leans in to whisper. "He's crazy." He walks off chuckling, leaving a fuming Aang to be confused and angry.
After a day of cleaning the river, it was completely free of pollution and it was back to its beautiful blue color.
——
That night, I stood at the edge of the river and sat down. I formed a fireball in my hands and I saw it move at a rapid pace. I was confused and looked up to see two figures floating in the air with fog covering them. One was the Painted Lady I posed as and the other was Sapphire.
"Thank you." The Painted Lady says before drifting away and vanishing. I felt the fire I formed disappear and I smiled at the sight of my past life.
"Sapphire." I smile." It's been a while."
"It has, darling." She says and floats closer. "I'm back to assist you when you need it."
"Why'd you leave?" I asked her.
"When the Fire Angel gets their wings and reaches their true potential, their pass life vanishes for a while. You did a good deed all by yourself without me and now I have returned, since I know you can fend for yourself as the Fire Angel." She explains and I gave her a soft smile. "I'm proud of you, Aya."
"I'm proud of myself too." I say. "Thank you."
She gives me a nod before she vanishes into thin air.
I watched her vanish and I grin.
