Sozin's Comet, Part 2: The Old Masters

Aya's POV

"Where are we, Bubbles?" I asked my koalaotter, who was chasing down a squirrel as I was walking around the mysterious island I woke up on. I was so confused on why I'm here and don't know why I'm here. "Maybe I'm in the Spirit World." I said, but I remembered Bubbles and stopped. "But you can see me. Maybe we're in the Spirit World together." I paused and firebended which answered everything. "Nope, my bending works." I continued forward and saw a hilltop; Bubbles pointed to it. "Let's see, if we climb to the top of the island we can try to figure out where we are. Maybe Aang's here..."

I hope Aang's okay.

——

I continued to walk around the forest and I approached a large hexagon shaped platform with a fire symbol on it. I stepped on it and I immediately felt a strange feeling as I made contact, but it was good feeling.

"It's a hexagon." I smile and Bubbles hops off me, curling herself up. I touched the platform and it wasn't normal rock. "It doesn't seem like normal rock. I wish Toph was here to test it out." I shrug and sit down next to Bubbles. "This is so weird. I wish I had some help right now, so I can tell Aang what to do. I wish I had Sapphire..." I gasped when I remembered. "Wait! I do have Sapphire!" I shut my eyes, taking a deep breath and start to meditate.

I felt connected to the Spirit World and my eyes opened to see Sapphire's spirit before me.

"You're right, Aya." She tells me, "All the past Fire Angels, all their experience and wisdom, is available to you if you look deep inside yourself."

"So, where am I?" I asked her. "What is this place?"

Sapphire looked around with confusion. "I don't know. But I see you are lost in more ways than one at the moment."

I nodded. "It's Aang. He's confused on what to do with Ozai and doesn't know what to do once he faces him. I want to help him, but I don't know what to do."

"It's the Avatar's job to face the Firelord, not yours." She remarked.

"But I'm still his angel and I'm here to assist him." I objected. "Everyone expects Aang to take out the Firelord, but he isn't sure if he can do that."

"In my life with Roku, we both tried to be disciplined and show restraint, but it backfired when Firelord Sozin took advantage of that restraint and mercy. If we had been more decisive and acted sooner, Roku could have stopped Sozin and stopped the war before it started. So, I offer you this wisdom, Aya: Aang must be decisive."

Sapphire vanished after that and I sighed, hanging my head.

——

"Fire Angel Daruka, I need your wisdom."

My eyes opened and I saw Fire Angel Daruka's spirit appear in front of me.

"In my day, Chin the Conqueror threatened to throw the world out of balance. Avatar Kyoshi stopped him. And the world entered a great era of peace." Daruka explained to me.

"She didn't really kill Chin. He actually fell to his own death because he was too stubborn to get out of the way and he fell into lava." I reasoned with him.

"Personally, I don't really see the difference, but I assure you, she would have done whatever it took to stop Chin. I offer you this wisdom, Aya: Only justice will bring peace."

He vanished after that and I sighed.

"I knew I should not have asked Daruka. He's as stumbled as a rock."

——

I was getting irritated with myself and the Fire spirits I was contacting. I had to look deeper inside myself and find the true meaning of wisdom.

My eyes closed and I dug deep down inside myself, before my eyes opened and I saw beautiful spirit with brown hair and bright blue eyes.

"I am Fire Angel Coral, wife to Avatar Kuruk." She greeted with a gentle voice. "When I was young, I was always a calm and gentle soul. People seemed to work out their own problems, and there was peace and good times in the world. But then, I got captured by Koh, the Face Stealer. Kuruk says it was his fault, because if he had been more attentive and more active, he could've saved me. Aya, Aang must actively shape his own destiny and the destiny of the world." She vanishes after that and I audibly groan, holding my head.

——

"These past Fire Angels keep telling me Aang needs to kill the Firelord, but they don't get it." I spoke to myself and sighed as Bubbles chittered. I gasped. "That's it! Maybe an air nomad will help! Sapphire told me that there are Fire Angels who were born Nomads." I smile at Bubbles. "I know you can't talk, but it makes me feel less alone in this situation."

I began to meditate again, contacting an air nomad Fire Angel. My eyes opened and I saw a man with jet black hair and air nomad clothes, but had piercing gold eyes.

"I am Fire Angel Aither." He greeted in a deep voice.

"Fire Angel, Aither, Avatar Aang is in desperate need of help, but everyone is telling him that he needs to kill the Firelord. Aang told me that all life is sacred an I agree with him."

He nods, "yes, all life is sacred."

"He's even a vegetarian. Both of us always tried to solve our problems by being quick or clever. And both of us only had to use violence for necessary defense. And Aang certainly would never used it to take a life. I wouldn't either." I explained to Aither.

"Fire Angel Aya, I know that you and the Avatar are gentle spirits, and the monks have taught him well, but this isn't about him." Aither explained. "This is about the world."

"But, Aang refuses to kill anyone." I reasoned. "He's determined to find a different way to restore balance to the world."

"Many great and wise Air Nomads have detached themselves and achieved spiritual enlightenment, but the Avatar can never do it. Because his sole duty is to the world. Here is my wisdom for him: Selfless duty calls you to sacrifice your own spiritual needs, and do whatever it takes to protect the world."

He vanished after that and Bubbles crawls onto my lap. I sighed with defeat and petted her fur.

"I guess Aang doesn't have a choice, Bubbles. He has to kill the Firelord."

——

I woke up from the nap I had taken and I noticed in front of me that there were some mountains, but they were getting bigger and I sat up with confusion.

"Are those mountains getting bigger or am I just going crazy?" I asked, not expecting an answer from my koalaotter.

I bend down and use firebending to launch myself up and I land on top of a tree top to look around. As I looked around, I spotted the mountains and they weren't just getting bigger, they were actually getting closer.

I smiled. "Those mountains are getting closer! The island is moving!"

I leap off the tree and dash to the edge of the island with Bubbles next to me. I dive into the water with Bubbles, because she's a excellent swimmer and we investigated the moving island together.

As we swam down more, suddenly a large paw moved by us and my eyes grew. I hovered for a moment before I swam to the surface of the water and gasped for air, and Bubbles grabs my neck.

"Bubbles! It's incredible! It's the largest animal in the world!" I beam. "A lion turtle!" She chittered with happiness at this and licked my cheek. "I'm gonna keep swimming around to find its face!"

I dunked my head into the water and continued swimming.

——

I paused when I got to the front of the island, or animal in this case, and I stared at the odd shaped front, until I recognized it was a face and the eyelid opened to reveal a bright gold orb. My eyes grew in shock and Bubbles tightened her grip on my neck in fear as a gentle paw moves underneath my body. I gasped, thankfully not inhaling any water, and the paw lifted me out. Once we emerged, I was able to see the magnificent creature in front of me and I was astonished by the lion turtle.

"Wow." I say with mesmerization and bow to the beautiful creature. "Maybe you can help me. Everyone, even my own past lives, are expecting Avatar Aang to end someone's life. But he doesn't know if he can do it."

The turtle began to speak, but it's mouth did not move and a female voice echoed around me. "The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginning-less time, darkness thrives in the void but always yields to purifying light." The turtle explained to me and suddenly my wings appeared out of nowhere, which caused Bubbles to leap off me and I was confused. "Fire Angel Aya, you've been told that there is no cure for a broken wing, but there is a cure."

My eyes grow and I was in shock. "There is? So Sapphire lied?

"No." She denied and she placed two claws on me, one of my chest and the other on my broken wing. "She doesn't know about this; you are the only one who knows how to cure a broken wing."

Suddenly, a bright light issued from my wings and my eyes closed, feeling the sensation of power.

Moments later, my eyes opened and the turtle lifted me up onto the cliff of the Earth Kingdom. Bubbles leaps into my arms and she grabs my left arm as the turtle continues.

"You are healed."

I bow at the lion turtle, before it submerged back under water and I turned to my head to see my wing was healed. I gasped and began to flap them with ease and I leaped into the air, flying and I laughed with happiness.

"I'm healed!"

My wings were a bright red and orange color and they never shined so bright. It's almost like I was reborn with new wings and the rip was never there.

"Aya!"

I turned and saw Aang leaping toward me.

"Aang!" I yelled and flew toward him. I landed next to him on a large tower of rocks, before tackling him with a hug. "I was so worried about you! I'm so glad you're okay!"

He hugged me tightly and sighed. "I'm good, Angel."

"Where were you?" I asked him as I pulled away.

"On a giant lion turtle." He shrugged and my eyes grew.

"Really? Me too!" I laughed and he smiled with shock.

"Seriously?!" He gasped and I nodded.

"Yeah!" I giggled, before facing the water to see a bunch of airships heading toward us.

Behind us, Sozin's Comet was shooting down at immense speed and caused the sky to fill up with bright orange and yellow colors.

"Have you figured out how to stop the Firelord." I asked him and he grabbed my hand, nodding. "Are you ready?"

"I'm ready."
