Nightmares and Daydreams
Aya's POV
"This is it! The official rendezvous point for the invasion force." Sokka exclaims with excitement aa we emerge from the bushes. Bubbles slides off my head and clings onto my shoulder as we look around the area.
"How did you find this place?" Toph asks.
"Before we split up, my dad and I found this island on the map. It's uninhabited, and the harbors surrounded by the cliffs seemed like the perfect secluded place." Sokka explains to us.
"Nice choice, Sokka. And we're here four days ahead of schedule." Katara adds and I grin with nervousness.
I was nervous about the invasion, because the sun will be blocked and my firebending will be weakened. Everyone is aware of this issue, but this is the most efficient time to invade the Fire Nation and take out the Fire Lord. At least I'm the only firebender that can use their bending, so that's something.
Aang gets anxious. "Wait! Four days? The invasion's in four days?"
"Whatever. That's like four days from now." Sokka yawns. "Let's just calm down and-" I roll my eyes with a smile when I see that Sokka had fallen asleep.
"Sokka's got the right idea, Aang." I tell my boyfriend, grabbing his hand. "We're here. We're ready. The best thing we can do now is get plenty of rest." I let his hand go and lay down to sleep.
"I guess." Aang sighs, halfheartedly.
——
I was woken up by the sound of banging and I sit up along with my siblings and Toph. We see Aang punching a tree and I look at my siblings who just shrug before I approach Aang.
"Hey. How long have you been up?" I ask Aang.
"A couple hours. I got a lot more skills to refine if I'm gonna fight Ozai." Aang explains to me and I rub the back of my neck as Aang stops, panting.
"You know there is such a thing as over training."
Aang hits the tree one last time, which sends a vibration throughout his body and makes him fall down, with all of the leaves off the tree collapsing on him. I gaze down at him and Katara runs up to us. Aang comes out from under the leaves and walks around Katara and I in a fighting stance.
"You don't get it, do you? My form is bad, I'm sloppy, and I still don't know any firebending. Not even the basics."
"Aang, I offered to teach you firebending." I reason.
Aang's left eye twitches a little bit after saying this. I bring Aang's hand down, with a forced smile on my face.
"That's okay, Aang. The eclipse will block off firebending anyway. You don't need to know it." Sokka chimes in and I look at my brother. "Plus, it's a stupid element."
"Excuse me?" I ask him and Sokka looks up at me with wide eyes. "What was that?"
"I meant...it's a stupendous element!" Sokka laughs nervously but it dies down when he sees fire form in my hands. "I'll be quiet."
The fire extinguished and I looked back at Aang.
"Okay, well I still have to work on everything else. I better spend the whole day training." Aang informs us and Katara and I share a look of uneasiness.
Aang bows quickly toward Sokka, followed by Katara and I, and rides off on an air scooter.
I was worried about Aang, he's pressuring himself to much. Yes, this is an important battle, but Aang is an amazing bender and has great fighting abilities. He'll be able to take out the Fire Lord easily, he's over thinking all of this.
——
"Good night, Aya. Good night, Katara. Good night, Sokka. Good night, Toph. Good night, Appa. Good night, Momo. Good night, Bubbles. Good night, Appa, Momo, and Bubb-"
I was woken up again by Aang and I turned over, covering my ears.
"Go to sleep, already!" Toph snaps, cutting Aang off and he didn't reply.
——
My eyes opened when I heard footsteps and I see Aang pacing around some sleeping koala sheep. I sigh and gently place Bubbles on the ground, before going up to him.
"Aang, it's the middle of the night. You need to go back to sleep." I tell him, rubbing my weary eyes.
"But I forgot my pants and my math test."
I didn't bother to question that and sigh grabbing his shoulders. "Aang, sleep. Please. For me."
Aang looks at me, and rubs his eyes. I give him a tired smile and he hugs me, before bowing and we walk back to the camp.
——
I wake up and see my brother laying on the ground with his sword nearby. I see Aang panicking again and I sigh, rubbing my golden orbs, and Bubbles crawls onto my lap, chittering.
"Relax! It's still two days before the invasion!" Toph assures Aang.
Aang begins to pull Sokka's, attempting to get him up.
"Sokka, you've gotta get up drill your rock-climbing exercises."
"What?" Sokka asks.
"In one of my dreams, you were running from Fire Nation soldiers, trying to climb this cliff," Aang explains and Sokka gives him an annoyed look, "but you were too slow and they got you!"
Sokka stands up and steps in front of the Avatar.
"But that was just a dream. I'm a great climber!" Sokka protests.
Aang points to a nearby cliff. "Then climb that cliff! Climb it fast!"
Sokka glances between Aang and the cliff. Aang nods fast, and Sokka reluctantly climbs the cliff.
Aang watched Sokka climb the mountain before he turns to us and he sees Toph, who was trying to drink some water.
"Don't drink that!" Aang warns her, and Sokka falls off the cliff upon hearing Aang. Toph spits the water out and it gets all over my body. I frown at Toph and Katara waterbends the water off me.
"Why?! Is it poisoned?" Toph asked.
"In my dream, we were right in the middle of the invasion, and you had to stop to use the bathroom!" Aang rambles frantically and puts his hands between his legs and squeezes them together. "We died because of your tiny bladder!" He turns to Katara. "And you need to start wearing your hair up. In my dream, your hair got caught in a train, and we die because of your long hair!" He looks at me and puts his hands on my shoulders. "And you need to do something of about your red hair! It's beautiful, but the Fire Lord caught us-"
Katara steps in between us and holds his shoulders. "Aang! I know you're just trying to help, but you really need to get a grip. You're unraveling."
Aang realizes what she was saying and takes a deep breath. "You're right. I'm losing my mind."
Out of the corner of my eye, I see my brother still trying to climb the cliff, but he slides down.
——
"It's like every time I think about how stressed I am, I just end up more stressed. I'm like a big growing snowball of nerves."
It was the middle of the day and Aang was still stressing out. He hasn't gotten any sleep for the passed two days and he was sleep deprived. His eyes were twitching and he was pacing around.
Katara and I sat there concerned with Momo and Bubbles while Sokka was making armor for Appa and Toph was resting.
"Of course you are." Sokka chimes in. "That's 'cause you gotta fight the Fire Lord, the baddest man on the planet. And you better win or we're all done for."
I stand up and approach my brother. "Sokka! You're not helping!"
Sokka stands up. "What? It's true. That's the deal. He knows it!"
I push Sokka down before turning back to Aang who was shaking nervously. Katara and I both go up to him to calm him down.
Katara last eyes light up and touch's his shoulder. "You know what, I've got just the thing! Get ready to be de-stressified!"
——
Katara, Toph, and Sokka tried to help Aang calm down, but neither of them succeeded. I tried to help by practicing our fighting abilities, but that caused him to get stressed or he was afraid of hurting me to much.
Aang currently sat on a cliff, holding his knees.
"Thanks for everything, guys." Aang tells us.
"So, do you feel less stressed? Ready for a good night's sleep?" I questioned him with hope.
Aang turns his head away. "Uh, I kinda think I sorta might slightly feel a little better." He looks back at us and makes eye contact with me. "Maybe."
"Then our work here is done." Sokka declares before him, Katara, and Toph stretch and yawn and lay down. Aang and I embrace one another and I plant a kiss on his cheek.
"Try to have goodnights sleep." I tell him as I pull away and he gives me a weary smile.
"I'll try, Angel." He replies and I let him go, before I lay down and fall asleep.
——
I shot awake when I heard Aang scream and everyone else woke up alarmed. We rush over to him and I grab his shoulders in panic.
"What happened, Aang?"
Aang turns away from us. "It's the nightmares. They just get worse and worse."
I squeeze his shoulders and felt sorrow enter my body. I hate seeing Aang like this, it breaks my heart.
"Looks like it's time for another..." Sokka turns around and puts his Wang Fire disguise on and voice. "Therapy session."
Aang looks back for a moment. "No. That won't help. Nothing helps. There's only one thing I can do! I'm going to stay awake straight through to the invasion!"
Aang starts shaking upon this, and all of us were shocked, except for Toph, who just smiles.
——
The next day, Aang was still sleep deprived and freaking out. I was trying to meditate but Aang was pacing nervously which makes me stop and the fire in my hands extinguished.
"Invasion. All aboard for the invasion."
I get up and approach him. "You don't look so good. You sure you can't just lie down for a little nap?"
"I told you, I can't go back to sleep." Aang denies.
"Aang, staying up all night can't be good for you."
Third Person POV
Aang walks toward the cliff and Aya turns and follows him.
"Actually, staying up all night has given me some time to think. And I've realized some big things, Aya."
"What big things?" She asked.
"I see everything so clearly now. What really matters. Why I'm really doing this." He turns around to look at Aya. "I'm doing it to save the world. But more than that. I'm doing it for the people I love. I'm doing it for you, Aya."
"Aang, what are you saying?" Aya smiles.
"I'm saying, I love you!" He beams and kisses her. Aya kisses him again and embraces the Avatar.
Aya pull back after a few moments and blushes. "Aang, I love you too."
"Oh, Angel." Aang sighs lovingly. "You're my forever girl." He gets on one knee and Aya gasps. "Will you marry me?"
Aya's POV
"Aang!" I called out to him for the tenth time and he stops what he was doing. "I was just saying you should take a nap."
Aang turns to me with a sheepish look. "Oh, I guess I kinda drifted off into a daydream."
I smile. "Oh! What was your dream about?"
He thought for a moment before replying. "Uh, living underwater."
I was confused but still smile. "That's neat." I walk up to him and kiss his cheek. "I love you."
He sighs. "I love you too."
I smile at him once more before walking away.
——
The next day, Aang was still delusional and was practicing fighting the Firelord with a tree. He was losing his mind and it's worrying me, it's worrying all of us. This isn't healthy, he could seriously hurt himself if he doesn't get some sleep.
It's gotten so bad, that he's imagining Momo and Bubbles we're speaking to him.
"Oh, Momo, Bubbles let me explain." Aang says and begins chattering like Momo and Bubbles. Katara, Sokka, and I share a look of confusion, as Toph merely stands there with a slightly annoyed look. Momo and Bubbles chitter back, in which Aang laughs before chittering again.
"Aang? We're all starting to get a little worried about you." Katara begins.
"You've been awake too long." Sokka adds.
"You need to sleep, love." I tell him.
"And you're acting downright weird." Toph finishes and I couldn't disagree with that.
Aang sighs. "Look, I appreciate what you guys are saying, but the stress and the nightmares. They were just too much. Staying awake is the best way for me to deal with it."
Aang pauses for a moment before widening his eyes. "Guys, come on." He rushes over to Sokka. "Sokka! What should we do!?"
"About what?" He asks with confusion.
"About that?" Aang points over at Momo, Bubbles, and Appa who were just siting peacefully.
I stared at Aang as he rushes over to them. "Come on, guys! We're all on the same side!"
Aang looked petrified and confused before he had enough. "I just need to jump in a cold waterfall!" He screams and runs off.
——
That night, we had enough of Aang staying up and having hallucinations and going insane, so we came up with a plan. We think Aang needs to be in a calm environment, with no sign of the Firelord whatsoever, so Toph formed a small rock bed and we covered it with koala sheep wool for Aang to sleep on. Katara surrounds the area with fog so it can give the area a calm vibe.
We watch Aang approach the sheep wool and he investigates it, carefully.
"Oh, look. Another hallucination. An imaginary bed made out of clouds." He sighs with sarcasm.
"Hey! It's real! We spent hours working on it!" Toph exclaims in defense.
Aang shoots up when he hears us and I gave him a soft smile.
"We made it for you." Sokka explains. "A good night's sleep will probably take the crazy away. We hope."
"Look! You guys keep telling me that I need to sleep, but I can't! The invasion's tomorrow!" Aang protests frantically, approaching us.
"Aang..." I sigh but he cuts me off.
"No, Aya! There's still so much I haven't learned. I don't need sleep. What I need is practice. Quick, hit me!" He puts his fists up and I shake my head with a worried look.
"I'm not going to hit you." I deny.
"You want me to do it?" Toph suggests and Sokka nudges her.
"Listen, you've been training for this since the day we met." Katara begins and moves behind him, talking over his shoulder. "I've seen your progress. You're smart, brave, and strong enough."
I nod with her. "You just need to believe you're ready, we all do."
"You really think so?" Aang asked us and Katara and I nod.
"We all do." Sokka agreed. "You can do this. You're ready."
"You're the man, Twinkle Toes." Toph smiles, pointing to Aang.
"Thanks, guys." Aang smiles softly before yawns, and rubs his eyes. I aid him to the bed, where he lies down. "You know what? I think I am ready."
We all smiled at the Avatar as he drifted off to a peaceful sleep.
You are ready.

Invasion time y'all😝
