Chapter Nine: Dinner

Iroh told you about his plan to escape and how he was training when the guards weren't around. You liked the idea of escape. After all, you were very skilled at it. He asked you about your experience with escaping and, much to his surprise, you told him of the many times you had succeeded. This gave him a general idea of what you're capable of without you having to demonstrate. From there you both discussed different plans and back up plans and backup backup plans. You also trained. He would give you tips on control and how to use different fighting techniques. You spent most of your time doing this. Some point after sundown one day your training was interrupted by two guards.

When they came in Iroh was in the middle of pull-ups. He quickly disappeared into the shadows and put on his robe when you heard the door opening. It was loud and creaky and the light from the hall blinded you due to you being in the dark for the past few hours. When your vision cleared up you saw two guards come in. They slid a trey of food into Iroh's cell, which he ate like a savage, and proceeded to unlock your cell. They motioned for you to stand up and come out. As they placed the shackles an your wrists you sent a worried glance Iroh's way. He pretended to be absorbed in his food, but you could tell he saw your look.

Once the shackles were secure, the guards escorted you out of the room. They took you out of the dungeon all together. You were beyond confused. You were taken upstairs into a nicer area. At this point you assumed you were in the actual castle. You were taken into a room that had two maids in it. The guards stood beside the door while the maids silently began studying you and removed your shackles. You tried to as them what was going on, but the didn't answer.

One grabbed a comb and began brushing your hair while the other began holding red and black dresses against your body. After about three she found one she liked. Despite your protests, they stripped you of your old outfit and put you in the high-class dress. It was at least two layers. The bottom layer was solid black, made of a soft material. The next layer was a see through material that was longer in the back and extremely short in the front. The top was solid red while the bottom had a flame effect. You had a black belt placed on your waist and matching shoes. Your hair was simply left down. You looked in the mirror to see that you were almost a different person. The only thing that really stood out was your scar. It seemed to destroy this perfect picture the maids had created.

The shackles were placed back on your wrists and the guards too you to another room. It wasn't exactly huge but it defiantly wasn't small. In the middle was a long dining table and at the end was Princess Azula. One other chair sat vacant at the other end of the table. You were led to the chair, but you didn't sit, unsure as to what to do. Instead you stared a hole into the princess's head. Her hands were folded just so it looked as if she were holding something small in them, like it would rush off if she loosened her grip. Her stare matched yours. She broke the silence. "Please, sit."

You did so. "I'm afraid I never got your name," she said. Instead of giving it to her you replied with, "Why am I here?" She narrowed her eyes. "Maybe if you'd give me your name I could answer your question," she replied, a warning tone in her voice. "It's (Y/N). Now, what am I doing here," you impatiently asked. "Well, (Y/N), this is an apology dinner," she said, catching you off guard, "I wrongfully in prisoned you for expecting too much of you. I assumed that an uncivilized lower class, such as yourself, would have the common sense to use manners and respect royalty. Obviously I was wrong. I now realize that you were probably raised in a place that is not used to such intelligent ways and you were just confused. So I am apologizing for expecting so much of you. I trust that it will not happen again now that you've been properly educated on how basic manners work."

You didn't know what to think except that this girl was full of herself. You wanted to scream at her, but you also didn't want to deal with a punishment. So again, you sat in silence. You didn't eat any of the food, even though it looked delicious. Eating it would be a sign of agreeing with her. "Not much of a talker I see," Azula said, taking a sip of her drink, "You seemed to have plenty to say when we were on the road." When you still didn't answer she continued, "You can keep the dress. The guards will give you your stuff when they escort you out." Again you were confused. The guard came and uncuffed you. 'I guess this means I'm free,' you thought. As you walked out Azula called out to you, "Oh and (Y/N)? Did you and my uncle get along? I hear he's loosing his mind in there. I do hope it not contagious, for your sake."

'She. Is. Weird.' you thought. Is it her purpose in life to creep people out or something?

One guard, a girl, handed you a bag with your things in it and led you out. You recognized her as the nice girl that would bring you and Iroh food. You wanted to say something, but you didn't know how to word it or how she would react. You couldn't stand the silence, but instead of asking your question you asked something else. "Why'd she make me wear the dress?" you asked. You really had been wondering. "Simple," the girl stated, her eyes straight forward, "She's the princess. You can't look like a pile of cattle dung and eat with royalty." You snickered at her choice of words and, even though she was trying to be professional, you could see a smile on her lips. "I'm sure that you're going to be missed, especially by the old man. I still don't entirely understand why The Princess inprision her own uncle." Your eyes went wide, "He's her uncle?!?" you exclaim. "Yes," she answered, "Ever since he's been charged with treason, he hasn't been the same..."

You came to the gate that separates the castle from the rest of the world. You were about to walk out when you realized something. You called out to the girl, who had begun to leave, "Hey! Could you do something for me? Can you tell Iroh that the princess let me go?" You paused as she nodded. "Tell him that I'm going to be with my own kind." She looked confused, but nodded again. "Don't worry. He'll understand," you said before walking off.

'And a new adventure begins,' you thought, unsure how to feel. You took a deep breath and walked off into the night.
