Chapter Four: Conversations

As the afternoon went by you spent the time talking to the GAang and the refugees/warriors. They all seem really nice but you try not to change the past to much, so you don't really talk to them.

Instead, you find a quiet spot near the edge of the cliff. You lay down on your back with your legs hanging off the edge. You let out a sigh and close your eyes to think about...everything...

You hear foot steps coming toward you, but choose to ignore them. "Hey," you hear. You open your eyes, hoping it wasn't meant for you. You crain your neck to see Zuko standing a few feet away from you. He's so cute with his messy hair and his scar..... Wait. What?!

"Hey," you say, hoping that the blush on you cheeks is just in your head. "So your from the future," he says, sitting down next to you. You sit up. "Yep," you answer. "What's it like there? Where your from? Well of course where your from. Where else you I be talking about?" He rambled awkwardly.

"It's.... Plain," you say, "Very boring. Well, other than me being hunted of course. That's a topic I rather not talk about."

"Ok...," he says, "What about...," he stops, gesturing to your face. "My scar? What about it?" you ask. "How did you get it?" he clarifies, "Unless you'd rather not tell me."

"I'll tell you, of you tell me about yours," you say. "Alright."

"Where to start?" you say to yourself. "Well, I didn't know I could bend anything at all at first. But then something happened. They had made a declaration that all practicing of any arts would be illegal. Of course, people were mad. The arts were all we had left of our individuality. Long story short, I was mad and accidentally shot fire from my hands. Later I was trying to figure out what I had done. And this was the result," you say, gesturing to your cheek. "After that, I went into hiding. I had no idea what I was or how I could do that. I didn't for a long while, until I found some illegal documents about bending and 'the Avatar.' Around that time lots of my friends and family started disappearing. I've been alone ever since," you finish. You have to take a deep breath to avoid crying. "Your turn," you say, "What's the story behind your scar?"

"I got in a fight with the Fire Lord," he said simply. "And...?" you ask, wanting him to continue. He stays silent. "Am I just going to have to guess what you did and why he was so hard on you?" you say. "I'm not going to let you get away with not telling me," you say. He took a deep breath. "He's my dad," he states, looking away from you. "Oh," you say, feeling guilty for pressing the topic. Not liking the silence, you continued, "that must be tough."

"Yeah," he says," He banished me three years ago, after he burnt me."

"So you've been alone, all that time, before you found these guys?" you ask, feeling sorry for him. "Well, not all alone," he says, "my uncle, Iroh, came with me. He stayed with me through out my quest for the Avatar and I pushed him away."

"Where is he now?"
"Not here."
"Is he...?" you start, not wanting to finish. "He's alive." You breath a sigh of relief, "Then there's still hope."
"Hope for what...?"
"The people willing to stand by you when no one else will, are the ones who really care."
"Sounds like something my uncle would say."

You and Zuko talked about him uncle and the rest of his family for the rest of the afternoon. You noticed that he never mentioned his mother, but you didn't want to cause him more grief.

When morning came, you were already packing. In fact you were almost done, when Momo stole one of your bracelets. It wasn't really that special to you, since it was just meant to signify what village you belonged too. He ran of with it, causing you to chase him until he dropped it in the mist of Zuko's things. Not wanting to wake him up, or go through his stuff, you leave it and finish packing. You had packed some extra bandages, water, food, and a few other things they had lent you.

Not finding a direct way up, you decide to climb down. Luckily, there's a path that is easy to walk on with our risk of falling. After a while the path splits in to two: up and down. Considering you want to be out of the canyon, you start going up.

A silence seems to fill the void that was carved into the earth. At first, you find it calming, then you find it unnerving. Which is right? You can not tell. Does it mean danger is near? Or is it your subconscious telling you that they've noticed you're gone? Are they even awake yet? It's only just after sunrise.
The silence and your thoughts are disturbed by a blimp. The blimp is red and black and a girl, dressed in the same colors, is standing on it. You duck behind a rock, hoping she doesn't see you.

A few moments later you hear an explosion above you, followed by Zuko falling shortly after. You see a second blimp beginning to rise and air bent the wind so he was blown onto it. Once he stands up, he looks in your direction. You half smile and salute to him before continuing on your path up.
