Chapter 3: The Memories Return
I walked into the hospital, and the receptionist glanced at me briefly. She wrote my name down, and continued playing on her phone. I quickly picked up Penny, who was hiding behind a plant, and took her to my room. I set her down, and poked her.
"It's okay to wake up now Penny." The little sea goat's eyes blinked, each at different times. She looked up, around, and then back to Andromeda. She was about to squeal when, Andromeda quickly covered Penny's mouth. "Shh..." At that moment, the pendent's gem started glowing bright green. "It's, it's glowing!" Penny's six eyes widened, and she ran for cover.
"Andromeda?" A voice called out from no where. "Andromeda, are you awake?" The world evaporated into a large ancient city filled with people.
"Where, where am I?" I looked to my left to find a boy, about my age standing next to me. He was wearing a white tunic and had his hair slicked up in the front. "Who-?"
"Andromeda, are you sure that you're ready to through with this? We don't know what it's like... You could get hurt!" I stared into the boy's deep blue eyes and sighed.
"Yes Orion, I must, for the good of my people." I didn't say those words on my own! 'Scene shifting....' I thought to myself. 'I forgot all about that. This must be a memory...' "Where's Hera?"
"Oh, she went to go arrange the flowers. She said that when you return, the flowers will be ready to bloom." He had a smile on his face, that I remembered so well.
"And what of the King?" I asked, my voice filled with concern.
"He, he's being prepared. Don't worry, your time up there will be over soon, and all we have worked for, it'll be time to see the fruits." I felt myself smile, he was so overly wordy!
"Come on, we don't need to be doom and gloom all the time!" I smiled, and lightly punched his arm. "Besides, the sea goats need to be milked." He started laughing, as the world evaporated back into the hospital room. Penny came up a nudged me. I sighed and looked down at my pendant. "Well Penny, there's a start..." I picked her up and laid her down by the air vent, where I made a small bed of blankets. "Tomorrow, I start a new day of mysteries..." I sighed again, and got to sleep. No dreams disturbed me that night, and I awoke when the nurse, Michael, woke me up.
"Ms. Andromeda? It's time to go to school! I opened my eyes, and got up. 'Penny!' I thought instantly, and realized my foolishness in leaving her out in pain view. I quickly ran in front of her.
"I'm going to get ready! I'll meet you in the lobby." I stated, trying to deter him.
"Alright, hurry up though!" He closed the door, and I heard foot steps walking away. I breathed a sigh of relief. I knelt down, and stared Penny in the eyes.
"Penny, can you stay hidden from everyone here? I'll put you in the sink and get you some water." I walked over and turned on the sink, filled it up, and picked Penny up and put her in. It was rather small for a sea goat, but it was the best I could provide for now. I pulled up a wastebasket, and set it next to the sink, for easy access in and out. "Now, I'm going to school, don't get into trouble, okay?" She stared at me, and blinked her six eyes in agreement. I walked out briskly, and met Michael in the lobby.
"Ready Ms. Andromeda?" I nodded, and we where off. We got to the front of the school, and he dropped me off. "I'll pick you up right out here tonight, okay?"
"Alright!" I called out, waving goodbye to him. I entered the school, and got down to my English class. Toady we stated learning more grammar of the English language, this time ellipsis practice. It came, and it went, it was pretty simple. Trent was in my class, so I met up with him afterwards as we walked to our 4th period classes. "Hello Trent." I said when he got out the door.
"Oh, hey Andromeda. How are you?"
"I'm good, but I've begun to remember some things..." I explained to him what I had remembered the previous night.
"Huh... So, this guy, Orion, what else you do remember about him?" He stopped before his turn to his class.
"Nothing, he's another person from 'down there' that I knew. He mentioned 'The King', so he must be important." The King, a vague memory of him. He was obviously important, but how so? "See you in 6th." We separated, and I went to Chemistry. Nothing much happened, as it was apparently still the beginning of the school year. Mostly review. Finally it was 6th, and I met up with Trent in there.
"Hey again." He greeted. "What's up?"
"Hi, I'm doing fine. What's today's lesson?" I asked.
"I dunno..." At that moment, the bell rung. Class started. Once again, the lesson today was review. This time it was graphing review. Nothing new, but then again, I apparently did it 'wrong' this time too.
"Ms. Andromeda, what are you doing this time?" Mr. Taylor asked. I sighed.
"I graphed out the equation with a circular object to find the radius. Then I, for number 7, took the two equations and used Karthos's method to find 'x'." Mr. Taylor was done with my math, so he just gave up.
"As long as the answers are right I guess..." He sighed and walked away. After that, it was lunch. I followed Trent to his table and sat with his friends.
"So Andromeda, what did you find out from my uncle?" Ben asked when I came over.
"He said he didn't know what it was, and that it looked like either a Sodalite or Lapis Lazuli, so who really knows?" Ben gave me a weird look.
"That is strange, he usually knows his gemstones."
"Well, maybe it's and undiscovered one?" Kate offered.
"I don't really know, but I was able to get some new memories back!" I said, to at least bring back some clarity.
"Really!? Fill us in please!" Kate exclaimed. I filled the rest in on the memories.
"Huh, so this Orion guy, what's he like? Is he cute?" I gave Kate a puzzled look.
"All I have is that one memory of him, I don't really remember what our relationship was..." I noticed Mason blush.
"Hey, what about this 'King' guy? What do you remember?" Ben asked, very intrigued.
"I'm not sure, but I think he's important, and I have something to do with him. Some kind of ritual or something?" All of this was still confusing, even to me, and I knew their questions would never end, so I was glad when the bell rang, and we left for our last period, 8th. For me, that was a free period, since I didn't have any electives, so I chose to return to the hospital. When Michael brought me back, I quickly went to check on Penny. "Penny, I'm back!" I called out quietly. I found her still in the sink, splashing around a bit. "Good to see you too, how was your day?" She squealed, and I laughed. She was quite the adorable six-eyed sea monster. "I'm going to get some rest, make sure to wake me if you hear anyone, okay?" She blinked, and I got to sleep.
"Remember, on the night of the full moon, go out to the lighthouse, and hold your pendant up, then you will find your way home..." An elderly male voice called out in my sleep.
"The King will be ready on your return, be sure that you are too. Remember your mission, as an ambassador to the people up there..." The elderly female voice trailed off.
"Andromeda, are you ready?" A sudden scene shifting event occurred, and an old castle castle popped into existence. There was a young woman, maybe 19, dressed in a light pink dress, with golden hair. She had it tied up with a purple hair tie. "Today is your last day down here, are you sure you're ready to go?"
"Yes Hera, I'm definitely ready, for our people, and for The King." I told the woman in pink. She looked down, obviously saddened by this.
"You will be missed, even if it is for a few days. I'll be sure to tend your flowers while you're gone." She said, half-heartily smiling.
"Thank you, tell Orion that he can have all of the sea goat milk if he can get me a new seahorse family." Hera laughed at this.
"He knows that you can do that yourself, with just a snap of a finger!"
"I know, but tell him I want the rare ones, near the soulless's cave. He'll get them for me." She laughed.
"Yeah, he is pretty stupid. But he is brave too, he'll bring them back, and three fresh soulless, caught with his bare hands, just like the fabled 'One-eyed 100 foot long seeker' he killed, but then lost to a huge orca. Even though orcas don't live anywhere near here!" We both laughed at his past tall tales.
"Well, I better be off now, bringing about the revival of this place and all. See you soon!" We waved to each other, and the scene evaporated, waking me up. I saw Penny looking at me in awe. My pendant must have been glowing again. I looked down at it. "On the night full moon, go out to the lighthouse, and hold your pendant up, then you will find your way home... That's what the old man said." I looked over to the calendar and checked for the next full moon. "Well Penny, looks like I'll be going home tomorrow." I heard foot steps coming down the hall. "Quick, Penny! Get in the corner!" She quickly, well for a sea goat, got into her corner near my bed. I heard an knock on the door and opened it. It was Michael.
"Hello Andromeda, just checking up on you. Do you need anything?" He asked.
"No, not right now."
"Alright then, see you tomorrow." I checked the time after he left. 10:00.
"How long was I asleep for? That's strange..." I got back into bed, and fell back asleep, this time without any magical dreams. I re-awoke the next day, and returned to school. Today was a different day, so I started with Physical Education as my first period. It was honestly not educational, and more running and playing random sports. I didn't have a uniform, so I had to sit out for some bizarre reason, and write stuff down. Mostly, it was a pointless class that I had to take. 3rd period was better, since it was a free period, and I got to hang around in the library. I found some books and read them for an hour and thirty minutes, before I had to leave. Then it was 5th, the required language class, so they just stuck me in Spanish I. It was pretty easy, since we were just learning the basics, and then it was finally lunch. I got over to Trent and the others' table.
"Hey Andromeda!" Kate called out. "Any new developments?" I sat down.
"A little bit, I got a new memory. I was talking with this girl named Hera. Just talking. Oh, and there was these two elderly people who talked to be before that. Apparently I'm an ambassador for up here, and I'm supposed to return today. So, I don't really know what to do."
"Wait return? How are you going to do that?" Mason asked.
"Well, I'm supposed to go to the lighthouse, and I'll find my way home..." Now that I said it, it was a bit strange.
"I can take you to the lighthouse tonight." Trent offered.
"I'll join you, just in case..." Mason offered as well.
"You should bring my uncle along, just in case you find anything new about the gem, and to have an adult with you, again just in case." Ben said.
"Yeah, just in case. Totally." Kate stated. "That's why you want to go Mason. Totally." She smiled jokingly. Mason blushed again
"Alright then, meet up on Herndon St. at 8:30 PM." Trent said, and we agreed.
