Purr

A soft whining sound was floating from under my bed. It sounded like a-
No.
There wouldn't be a cat here. I peeked over the edge anyway, just to be sure. I saw the radiator, and realized that it was only the heating system, which sounded weird sometimes. I pulled the blanket back to get up and tap it, and goosebumps immediately spread across my legs.
Odd.
I opted instead to inspect my surroundings, peeking under my bed to see a fluffy shape with light glinting off of the eyes. I debated for a moment whether to reach for it or to lure it out, deciding it was best not to touch it until I knew what it was. I grabbed the broom from the corner and stuck it under the bed, sweeping it behind the creature so it would come out. I flicked on the lamp and out stumbled a fluffy grey kitten, whining. I reached for it, successfully scooping it up and stroking its back as it began to purr.
"Hey there, kitten," I whispered. After a few moments of quiet I continued. "Maybe you'll be a Bella?"
The purring got louder and I smiled.
"Nice to meet you Bella, I'm Ailie," I said.
Bella only purred in response.
