Chapter one Jackson's Secret

"Jackson! Wake up!" "They're attacking!" My body bolted upward. "Get up!" My father said. His emerald green eyes burn into my eyes. "I'll get the swords and bows and you get the pistols." I ran toward the box where we kept our two pistols, dazed. I wasn't sure what was happening. I look towards the box. The box was a wooden box that my father and I made. I painted it black with tiny yellow stars. I flipped the slab to where we hid the key. Then I ran toward the chest and started unlocking it. The lock clicked and the chest flew open. I wrapped my hand around the first pistol and the first bomb dropped. I watched as the explosion ripped apart the other tree houses. I quickly grabbed the other pistol and ran to the middle of the tree house.

Then came the drones. The drones were silver on the front and blue on the back. They had machine guns attached to the top and sharp knives on the sides. They were massive. The knives they would cut anyone like they were melted butter. They were terrifying. The amazing thing about them is they would only kill the people who lived in our section. My father was running toward me when the second bomb dropped behind him. He quickly leaped before the ground behind him exploded.

"Let's move!" He said.

We quickly dropped down and ran.

"We need to get to the base!" I yelled over the sound of explosions.

"We can still make it!" He replied. At that moment a bullet whizzed past my ear. I handed my father a pistol. I found my target and shot the pistol at the drone. I hit it square in the face. And I watched it fall to the ground.

"One down and hundreds to go," I said. We started running again just as hundreds of bullets rained down on us. But we kept running.

"Did you grab knives?" I ask. He hands me two of them and I throw them behind us. I hear five drones fall to the ground. More bullets rain down on us. If any of us got shot we could still get to the base. We had medical supplies there. I spotted the base it was about twenty feet away. We could make it there quickly. More shots came. Ten feet left. We can still make it. It was five more feet. I dove into the hole and so did my father. We quickly closed the iron door. It was pitch black but my father had brought a light stick (The future version of a flashlight.) There are three buttons: one button you use to shoot five lights in any spot and another turns on the lights. The third takes the lights back into the stick. He quickly shot the five lights around the room. And soon we had the underground tunnel shining bright.

"Lets go deeper into the tunnel." I say. We both go deeper into the tunnel. My father clicks the switches rapidly so we can see. I hear gun shots and banging on the door. It could give out any minute now. But we kept running to the safe place. I heard a loud bang then the loud hum of the drones. We were fast and agile but they had machine guns. They started shooting at us. But no bullet found it's mark. The door was just a few yards away. All of the drones sped up. We were almost there. At the last second we dove for the door and a bullet dug it's way into my flesh. My leg exploded in pain. But I managed to drag my body into the base. My father slammed the door and the drones slammed into the door. I clutched my leg with a look of agony on my face. Black spots appeared in my vision. The numbers kept getting larger by the second. And soon my vision turned black and I slipped into unconsciousness. My eyes flew open. It was pitch black and I was laying on a hospital bed. There were a pair of crutches on the side of my bed. I crawled over to the crutches. I yelped and more black spots appeared in my vision. I quickly lay my head down on the bed. But the black spots take over my vision and I am again swallowed by darkness. I awoke in the same bed with a tray of food on the little table. This time the light was dim but at least I could see. I heard a creak of a door and I froze. A wave of panic ran through me. I lay there helpless, scared of what might happen to me. Another creak. A figure appeared in the room and a shiver ran down my spine. "He's in here." The figure whispered. He crept over to the side of my bed.

"Come on!" He whispered coldly.

"I'm going to sedate him." I snapped back to reality they were close. I didn't know what to do.

Then it struck me my hiding spot!

Maybe I could survive this! I slid of the bed nice and easy and crawled under the bed. I flipped the slab on the ground and crawled into the little hiding space. I could barely fit in it but it worked for emergencies. The only problem was that his time the cast kept me from getting fully inside. I tried to fit my leg under the bed but my leg hit the bed. A scream ripped itself from my throat.

My leg throbbed uncontrollably but I managed to silence my breathing. The footsteps kept getting louder and louder. Then they stopped I listened for any sound but heard none. Then hands grabbed for my leg I cried out in pain and they pulled me out from my hiding spot. I kicked punched did whatever I could to get out of their grip. Then I felt a prick in my arm and I went limp.

I tried to scream but couldn't.

"We need to fully sedate him." One man said. They hauled me out of the room and took me to the main part of the base.

"We've got him," they both said.

What surprised me was that they were talking to my father. Why would he have them do this to me? He had a syringe in his hand. I wanted to scream at him but I couldn't.

"I'm sorry Jackson."

He plunged the syringe into my arm and the drugs took my body away from the world.
