Chapter nine Psychic

As darkness settles over us I stare at the sky, wondering when I would be a normal eleven-year old. I would be able to have a mother and a father whom love me. I would have friends and family. I would be just a normal kid like everyone else. Most importantly I would be free, free to play outside, free to learn how to play sports, and I would be free to be myself. I thought back to the dream and Chuck, the dream seemed like the past to me now. Then it hit me, how did the man know about the dream I was having and why did he say, "Well done, Jackson"? How could I have been so stupid? They already had the chip inside my head.... Those liars.
"Whats the kings company called, again?" I whisper to Iris.

"KIB, I forgot what it stands for though, King is boss? I don't know." She replied.
I glanced around the room, checking if anyone was awake. Nobody moved and the only sound heard was the occasional snore.

"Iris, I-"

"I know." Iris says.

"I have something to tell you, Jackson. I haven't told anyone this before. I can read minds. It's like I'm psychic."

My jaw drops in awe. "She's psychic?" I thought, "what is my power? What makes me special enough for the king to take me away from my mother?" A part of me wanted to believe her but the other didn't.

"Prove it, what number am I thinking of?"

"Three-million-seventy-six-thousand-eight-hundred-seventy-two," she said feeling accomplished. She was right, that was the number. My mind raced to the times I was in school.

I walked with Miles up to the school building. It was a giant five-story building which got bigger as we got closer, there were glass windows placed in each story for students to watch the amazing view each story with a balcony. I watched in astonishment as he walked me into a narrow door made of oak wood, a red carpet at our feet. There was a small women waiting for us at the desk. I look up seeing crystal chandeliers hanging above my head.

"Hello, how may I help you?" She asked Miles politely.

"I'm here to take Jackson to school." He replied as if he'd been there one-thousand times. The women rang a small bell made of gold and ivory. A young woman entered, her piercing blue eyes showed no emotion at all as if she were in a trance, she wore the cloths provided by the king: a blue short-sleeve shirt and black pants. The king would provide food and clothing for you and your family as long as you had a job. The rich had a large selection of food and clothing, as for the poor they had a very small selection. If the king finds anyone on the streets, they are taken to the lab or killed if they have no use for that person. I had never thought about what they did in the other world.

Miles takes my hand and leads me to the other door which he opens and gestures for me to enter. As I do he closes it and I am left alone inside the room. I then find my way over to a small chair, I sit and wait. I hear the rumbling of a machine and the walls start to move. I snap back to reality only to hear Iris say, "wow, that's creepy..."

"What do you mean?" I ask.

"I saw what you were thinking of."

"Let's get some sleep, I'm tired." I lie.

"Okay,"

I close my eyes pretending to sleep but I knew I couldn't. The night drifted off and soon so did I. The moon slowly disappearing and I knew soon we had to go. I get up and start to walk around slashing my sword across the grass. I dip the tip into the stream the blade glowing blue. I swing sending gushing water from the blade. "So this is how I'm special," I thought I touch the water again but this time with my hand. I lift it to the sky, lightning striking my palm. No wound appeared. The sword shrinks as I press the button. I push my hand out, electricity crackling as the electricity hit a tree. My fist was no longer glowing. I dare not tell them all at once for fear of Miles overhearing. I run back to the cave, silently lying down. I close my eyes and I sleep.
