PEASE OUT!
Chapter 15
How would it be to have a child, a small human life? A life that would depend solely on him for protection? Riccardo pondered those questions as Berry King, his head technician, talked about the improvement to the new product. A security system that would detect and memories different body heat. Sending a message to all the servers, so if a home with the same security system was burgled by the same person they would know.
The new system would also have a laser scanner, which would scan for height, weight and body structure with the possible of a gender and age estimate.
"Have you checked the numbers, can we afford to take the hit? Improvements of this capacity will set us back a few millions."
Riccardo question was directed at Walter. He has been meaning to look in on him and his sister, but with everything that was going on in his life the chance just never aroused. He was sure that something was going on with Walter, he's been jumpy and unfocused. However, he wasn't so sure that it had to do with his family at all.
"I have, Boss, there's a possible that we might be able to, but we'll have to push a few things around. It would be beneficial to us in any event, the turn-over from the new system will definitely keep us in the black."
Riccardo nodded his head. It was time to bring the meeting to a close and call Martin to see if there was any progress on his side regarding who set him up. Questioning the eye witness was fruitless, she never saw who the ghost killer was. Somewhere in the event, she heard his name being mentioned. So that was a dead end.
"Right, so that concludes that. Berry, work with Walter and put the new system into motion. If they're any complications don't hesitate to bring it to my attention and if for some reason you can't get hold of me, leave what you have with Maggie, she'll know what to do."
There was a collection of nods around the room then everyone started to pack up and leave his office. When the last person was out he pulled out his phone. He just hoped Martin had something for him because he was getting very agitated.
Someone was framing him for the killings and they were putting his wife's life in danger. He really wanted to kill somebody! After dialing Martin's number, it was answered on the second ring.
"Any luck?"
"I was just about to call you, the detail you put on Michelle called me because he couldn't get a hold of you."
Just hearing that make Riccardo sit up in his chair. He gripped the phone tightly as Martin spoke. If the next word out of his best friend's mouth was that his wife was hurt, the world would have to prepare for a war. He'll make the devil look like child's play when he's finished with them.
"Is she hurt?"
He was sure Martin heard the rage in his voice. There were two things that you must never try to take from Riccardo Giovanni, his wife and his money.
"She's not hurt, but someone did try to snatch her, but somehow she managed to evade them at every attempted. I went to see if Matt needed any help and he did. We caught one of the guys who was trying to kidnap her, but Rick there were two who got away."
Riccardo jumped from his seat, leaving everything in his office as it is. He grabbed his car keys and headed straight for his wife.
"Rick, you still there?"
"Yes I'm here, but I'm on my way to her now."
He made his way down to the parking lot and located his car. He got in and turned his car Bluetooth on.
"One of the two guys who got away was the detective guy from Michelle's past and the other one I think is the ghost killer. Rick from the way this guy moved I knew that he was more than human. I wouldn't have even known it was him, but he slipped up because he looked desperate to get her."
Upon hearing that, Riccardo sped through traffic to get to his wife faster. He wanted to know what the ghost killer wanted with his wife and why her childhood friend was trying to kidnap her.
"Why would the detective be after her?"
He voiced his question.
"That's what I want to know. When you're finish handling your side of things, I'll meet you over at the warehouse. We've got a would-be kidnapper to question."
Riccardo hanged up the phone and accelerated, his mind was on his wife and her safety. He felt stupid for not putting more security detail on her, he should have known that his enemies wouldn't waste any time trying to get their hands on her. Her safety should have been his number one priority instead he was held up in his office approving his new security system.
The moment his house came into view he pushed the car faster. Without even turning off the engine he exited the car and run to his house. His gun was already in his hands when he reached the front door, which was slightly ajar. Fear engulfed him and all the worst possibilities flooded his mind. He knew that Michelle would never leave the door open even if she was dead on her feet.
Clearing his head of all the horrifying images that was clouding his judgment, he focused on the one emotion he knew that he can count on...rage! His eyes were as cold and as hard as steel as he slowly made his way through the house. He checked every room as he went through them with his gun poised to take out anyone who was stupid enough to enter his home.
The silence throughout the house was deafening as he made his way to his bedroom. Keeping his gun raised in his right hand, he used his left hand to push the door open. A quick sweep of the room showed that there was no one there. The room was empty, he could see that Michelle's work clothes were on the floor and her phone was discarded on the bed.
Riccardo frowned, it was unlike his wife to be without her phone. She always wants to make sure that she has it on her, so that if he ever wanted to reach her he could. Riccardo left the room and did a quick sweep of the rest of the house and it came up clear.
His mind was racing and fear was starting to seep its way into his core. The thought of losing his wife and child send a bone curling chill through his soul. As he surveyed the rest of the house he quickly came to realise that it was empty of anyone but him.
Pocketing the gun, he gave the house a once over before he made his way back to the car. The engine was still running and the phone was sitting on the passenger seat right where he left. Without shutting off the engine he grabbed the phone, but just as he started to call Martin, it rang. The caller ID showed that it was coming from his office. he contemplated not answering it, but he knew that Maggie would never stop calling until he picked up, so with a growl in his voice he answered it.
"What?!"
"Rick, that better not be the way you speak to Maggie?"
He was flooded with instance relief at the sound of his wife's voice. His grip on the phone tightened and he rested his head on the steering wheel as he released a breath. He couldn't explain how good it felt to hear her voice, but what the hell was she doing at his office?
"Michelle, sweetie, why are you at the office? I thought you would be at home prepping for the exam you are giving the kids tomorrow?"
Riccardo heard his wife sighed into the phone.
"Rick, did you forget about our dinner date with the Charters tonight? Dave and Charlene will be expecting us to be at the restaurant you picked out in forty-five minutes."
Riccardo cursed under his breath, he wasn't in the mood to wine and dine one of his riches clients when he had one of the guys who tried to kidnapped his wife waiting to be questioned. However, he didn't want to lose one of his most important clients.
"I'll pick you up from the office in twenty minutes, just don't leave stay with Maggie and don't go outside, understood?"
"Yes, is something wrong, Rick?"
He didn't want to worry her, but he also couldn't have her being on her own when there were people after her in order to get to him.
"Nothing too serious, I'll tell you all about it when I get there, be there in twenty."
