(5) A Love Connection
"We need to talk."
Anne led Alex into the park and sat her down upon one of the white park benches. Anne looked deep into Alex's eyes and leaned closer to her, leaving only a few inches of space between them.
"I need you to be 100% honest with me." She began, her tone serious. "Are you the last Artist?"
"Um... I suppose." Alex rolled the thought around, deciding on an answer. "I mean, I don't know how I go there, but I did break the law by drawing this." The female then pulled out a folded piece of notebook paper and handed it to the dictator's daughter.
Alex fiddled with her fingers as the female carefully unfolded the paper, treating it as though they were butterfly wings. Upon revealing the hidden image, the female's eyes widened and a light tint of pink fell upon her cheeks.
"Uh, I-I'm sorry. It's terrible." Alex turned away and stared down at her fingers. She felt her face heat up as her eyes watered a bit.
"No," Anne spoke softly, "I think it's amazing." She smiled as Alex slowly turned towards her again. "Actually, I quite like how you brought out my eyes." She giggled slightly, adoring as the corners of the female's mouth lifted up to form a small smile.
"It is pretty terrible, isn't it?" Alex grinned a little as she rubbed the back of her head ever so gently.
"No," Anne shook her head, "I think it's... unique." she replied trying to find the right words.
"Thanks, I appreciate your kind words. But admit it, I'm a terrible..." Alex looked around before continuing, "I'm a terrible artist." She whispered.
"You just need practice." Anne smiled cheerfully.
"But how? Art is outlawed, remember?" Alex raised her left brow as she tilted her head, her hair draping down over the side of her shoulder.
"I'll help you to unlock your full potential!" Anne smiled brightly, her eyes lighting up at the sight of a happy Alex.
"Alright. Show me your ways."
"Close your eyes." Anne leaned in and attempt to help Alex close her eyes if needed. She would pause as the female did it herself. "Good. Now hold out your hands." The female would also help the other female pull her hands out. "Now." Anne began, "concentrate. Think about art or someone you love. Dig down deep and unlock your power."
"How will I know if I've unlocked it?" Alex questioned, keeping her eyes shut and her hands out.
"Picture something and then draw it in the air. If it worked, it would appear in your hands." Anne smiled softly.
"Okay." The female began to think of Anne, but she doubted herself on whether she could duplicate her perfection. So the female consentrated on a flower that she wanted to give her. Once she felt confident, the female began to draw it in the air. After finishing, the female felt something drop into her hands which made her open her eyes. "It worked!" She exclaimed as she handed the flower to Anne. "Thank you, for everything." The female smiled wider than ever before.
"You're welcome. And thank you." Anne smiled as she took the flower. "Actually I have something to give you too!"
"Really?" Alex sounded super excited as her eyes lit up.
"But close your eyes, I want it to be a surprise." Anne tried to calm the excited one down a bit.
"Okay." The female would then close her eyes again, awaiting the gift from the one she often thought about ever since that day.
Anne leaned in closer to the female, she would then gently press her soft fragile lips against the female's equally as soft lips. The two female's held the kiss for what felt like forever before a screeching laugh destroyed the perfect moment.
"Ewee. Fat Jones is gay!" One of Alex's snobby classmates screeched, pulling her shirt up over her nose. "Let's go gurls! Before she infects us too." The female then proceeded to walk away, followed by her followers.
Alex pulled away and glared at the girl as she walked away. Anne pulled Alex's arm towards her so that she would face her again.
"Hey. Don't let them get to you. It's not worth it." Her voice was soft as her eyes gave a mutual look.
"I'm sorry, I-I just don't think this is right." Alex looked down at the wilted grass at their feet.
"It's okay to be afraid. This is my first time too." Anne gently pulled the female's chin back towards her so that their eyes locked. "We can get through this, together." The corners of her mouth curled into a small gently smile in an attempt to comfort Alex. Looking at the female in the eye, Alex couldn't help but smile a bit too.
"You're adorable." Alex gave a slight laugh which widened Anne's smile.
"And you're beautiful." Anne leaned in closer to the female, she would then gently wrap her arms around Alex's waist as Alex wrapped her arms around Anne's neck, resting her arms upon the female's shoulders. The two females leaned in closer before pressing their lips together, as they kissed each other deeply once again.
"Anne," Alex pulled broke the kiss as she spoke softly.
"Yeah?" The female looked deep into the other's eyes.
"I think I love you." Alex whispered softly.
"I think I love you too."
