The Dragons
One of my favorite things to draw is dragons. They just capture my imagination and are quite the challenge. From Leif, the current Dragon Empress, to Lyrica, the evil dracolitch, they are awesome fun to bring to life on the pages. Here are the dragons that fly the pages of my stories.
Dreadfyre the Bold, the first Empress
Every world has an epic history, and that always includes historical figures who made a difference to light the way for the characters of today. The past of a world is always very influential in customs and culture, and the Dragon who blazed the way in the history of my stories is none other than Dreadfyre the Bold. She used her wings to help the ancestors of all the creatures in my world escape from the Red Shadow's flames, earning her name and title. Below is a sketch of her using her wings to allow the others to escape.
Here is a drawing of Dreadfyre the Bold flying once more after her wings had finally healed from the Red Shadow's flames.
Keeping up the trend of historical order, before Leif was on the throne there was another to blaze the way. There have been hundreds of Empresses, but to keep this short we will skip forward thousands of years to Naegori the Swift, the Empress who came before Leif.
Here are a couple drawings of Leif, the current Dragon Empress.
Chibi Leif
Leif in all her glory
Lots of people have siblings, and even those who don't can understand Leif's embarrassment at Hadrix's antics. The dark red and copper dragon just doesn't know that enough is enough when it comes to pranks. This rap scallion of a dragon is actually based on my younger brother who is a bit of a joker and also very athletic and smart. People always are thinking my brother is older just because he's taller, and this happens in my stories to Leif. Here are a couple drawings I've done of him.
Chibi Hadrix
Hadrix' belly
I can't help it. Whenever I see a cat or a dragon or something of the like I just want to rub their belly!
Now here's Lyrica, the vain dragon who sold her soul for immortality so she could kill Leif and thus became a dracolitch. Lyrica is a little insane, okay, maybe a lot, because she has focused her entire life on killing Leif even before her nemesis was Empress. Lyrica murdered Naegori the Swift in an attempt to get at Leif, but failed. Lyrica is extremely ambitious, but Leif is magically protected, making it hard for Lyrica to kill her. Lyrica and Leif know each other more than they know anyone else because they have been enemies since they were mere fledglings. It is because of Lyrica that Leif rose to greatness and became such a major paragon, influencing her world for good in ways that the previous Empress could never dream of. It's as if Leif needs Lyrica as a cause to fight against and reassure herself that she is good. And Lyrica is against Leif because Leif stands for everything she wishes she could be but never had a chance for.
A close up of Lyrica in an epic chibi scene I made as concept art for Alike: A Novel from the Valdt. She is starting to fall apart from the little undead factor. There is another one I would like to share with you but it would give a major spoiler I'm not ready to share.
Glaedyn
Here is Glaedyn, from Lily of the Shadows. I tweaked her design just slightly.
Here is Azawrath, Manx's father's big black dragon.
Chibi Azawrath
Kaeliyra, Hadrix's girlfriend
Here's one of the very few drawings I have of her. I know it's chibi...
Thorryn
Here's a couple of Thorryn, Ravenna's little baby dragon who loves mud holes and eating paper
Sheena
Here is Sheena, last but not least, in all her brilliant glory. Sheena is one of the last of her kind, and she is Xolt's best friend and loyal companion.
If you've already read all of Lily of the Shadows, I feel your pain. It had to happen. And she will always be remembered. And no spoilers for anyone who hasn't finished yet.
